Non League Trouble

There seems to be quite a bit on trouble at non-league football matches. Some clubs e.g. Weymouth have been mentioned and I know there have been some ‘unusual’ cases further north.

From my fairly limited knowledge of the situation it would seem youngsters (in some cases pretty young) have increasingly seen games as a way to display their ‘masculinity’. Is it fuelled by social media / copycat trends? The little I have seen seems rather ‘performative’.

I expect the cost and in some cases difficulty of getting to see games in higher leagues might be a factor.

Most non-league have made it under 14's cannot attend unless accompanied by an adult for safeguarding reasons. Haven't youngsters also attended football matches to get all tribal and defend their local area.

True but I have seen many videos on socials where it seems to be mid teens doing their tik tok etc videos for trends and cashing in on the money earned from all of these. Fair play to them, in theory.
But some of them like to cause that bit of grief and basically wind up other fans and thats where the confrontations start. Again, just so they can film it.

Deffo getting worse, seems to be every week now that some sort of issue comes up on my facebook feed. Dartford, Hitchin, as you say some proper random northern places as well. Kids have cottoned on there's little effective stewarding, no police and rarely any proper opposition at their home games. The feral rats with daddy issues are pretty much free to do as they like.

Maybe a better approach would be let all ages in but no phones allowed. Watch the game instead 👍

The trouble at Roffey v Seaford tonight was the microphone went on the blink when Sammy Chapman was reading out the teams.
And it peed down.

In all seriousness we are very lucky here as we get no trouble at any of the 4 Horsham clubs.

There are isolated incidents at non league matches but given the amount of matches it is not quite the issue suggested in the original post.
However, as league football continues to isolate all age groups, people of all ages are looking for their footy fix elsewhere.
These incidents are nothing new.

Agree. Premier league clubs actively discriminate against letting kids in so they will go elsewhere.

Yep my 16 year old goes with a group of 5 of them to Woking when we are away they seem to love it no issues getting in, £9 a ticket and can stand near the away fans and give it large ! Woking v Aldershot was a bit lively I heard

He also goes to Reading ☹️

It’s always been there… just that social media makes it more visible.

My local FB pages were full of videos of Eastleigh vs Aldershot recently. Police set up a dispersal thing around the town centre…. The numbers involved were actually quite impressive for the fifth tier although it did seem to be mostly about who could get more fifteen year olds to stand outside a pub looking ‘menacing’ rather than actual punch ups.

It seems higher up the non league ladder than the games i attend where we are lucky to get 100 people in the ground,but i do remember Grays v Tilbury many years ago being very lively because of a local feud that never did get settled.

Horsham v Southend had an attendance of 2500 and not a hint of a swear word during the game and quite a few Shrimpers in amongst the home fans who seemed quite happy too chat and enjoy the day and we know that SUFC has a fair amount of game lads.
I guess if they played Aldershot or Eastleigh or Woking then we are too expect a different atmosphere ?
We may well find out.

Giant Axe - Lancaster City gives it a run for its money.

Lancaster is also a great town for a booze up, if @nick logan was more of a culture vulture history buff, he and his merry pranksters would swerve the sink of evil that is Blackpool once in a while and make a northern weekend of it there instead 😂

You get a lot of the banned fans from football league clubs associate themselves with the local non league side. We had trouble with Kidderminster where fans will only do aways as they are banned from home games. The level of security etc is very thin down at this level bar local derbies (like Hereford for Gloucester etc)

I remember when Enfield played at Hampton last season there were a lot of youngsters following them.

The first few games of non league in august gets more “premier” support as it starts earlier so you get more yooofs who follow spurs say turning up at Enfield games etc etc

Went to Lancaster Uni a long long time ago....there used to be 50 pubs and two breweries for 50,000 people.

Interestingly they applied to join the Football League at the same time as the Bees, but were rejected

My brother was there 70-73 economics. Were you there then?

Due to promotion, Harborough town now implementing segregation for some games this season - been going about 5 years and only segregation I can remember was Carlisle in fa cup, I missed the only trouble there’s been in 5 years (Corby town - just down road - mini Scotland). Due to that trouble, under 16s have to be with an adult. BTW, home to Darlington tomorrow 👀

Eastleigh have shut a stand for the rest of the season, due to yoofs attempting to swap panini stickers with the oppo. Woking and Aldershot always bring a few loons.

The under 16s is an FA safe guarding thing every club has been forced to introduce
