Absolutely great business. I still don't get it. Another England player that is raved about and 50m..Arsenal have been done a kipper

Is there defo a sell on AI (i know unreliable) saying £12m trigger = no add ons.

Ezri Konsa (Arsenal)

Is there an AI equivalent of ‘trust me bro’?
I would be amazed if we didn’t have a sell on. We sold him after 1 season so I suspect it was on our terms (and so a sell on part of the deal). So we could be getting close to £20m for a player we bought for £1.8m and had for 1 season….. incredible business.

Ezri Konsa (Arsenal)

What a return on our original investment from Charlton to sell on £££££ we will get!

Just emphasises what class act our MB and MB are.

Ezri Konsa (Arsenal)

Please correct me if I am wrong but when we sold him to Villa I believe we had either already bought out Charlton's sell-on clause or given their financial plight there was not one included in that deal.

You're not wrong.

I seem to recall, and I could very well be wrong here, but didn't Villa trigger a transfer release clause and we reluctantly had to agree to the sale? I thought Konsa's forced sale was one of the main drivers behind the club being unwilling to include transfer release clauses in our contracts from then on (why voluntarily limit your upside etc.). Of course, that doesn't preclude the release clause having a sell-on percentage.

Looks like a tidy sum we'llbe getting as a nice surprise, and could increase too if Watkins goes!

We wouldn't have been able to sign him without a release clause, why else would anyone include one. We made about £10m in a year and upgraded our defence as a result so I doubt we were too traumatised by how it turned out.

Yep. And I don’t even like him when he played for us and can’t fecking stand him now.

He’s a strange one. Normally you’d see a player who ended up being a future England international and look back at their time with us fondly…… but I just remember feeling fairly ambivalent towards him and always felt that he was also largely ambivalent towards us.

Yep, many players know that they’re just passing through - and as fans we’ll know that too - but he made zero attempt to hide it.

Villa fan in peace, there isn’t a sell on clause guys 100 percent. Villa activated his transfer fee and even though there WAS a sell on clause that expired in 2024.
Same as Watkins, expired in September 2025.

Ezri Konsa (Arsenal)

I thought if a release clause is met then the player is sold without need for further negotiation. Why would Villa then agree to include a sell on percentage.
Delighted if we do have one.

Thanks- didn’t realise

What’s going on at Villa? Feels like everyone’s off?!

I'm often amazed at the two great careers both Big Ears and Konsa have had since their short stints at Brentford.

They have both played at a consistent and high level high level with.

I thought Tarky was pretty great for us and destined for big things. I actually think he might have had an even better career had he gone to more of a footballing club. At one point with us I think he was averaging 2 or 3 dribbles per game which is mad for a centre half. Obviously Dyche didn't stand for that.

Konsa was okay but always thought Mepham was the more talented of the two, shows what I know.

Who's to say the release clause didn't include a sell-on clause?

Ezri Konsa (Arsenal)

So 51-9=42. That’s a nice £8m or £9m into the “nice surprises” line in the budget.
A post later on saying it expired in 2024 ......will see what the next accounts say.

Thanks for the info but I'll trust the reliable sources on here over you.

Interesting. Good luck for the season. Villa Park remains a favourite ground for me, especially last season! Proper ground and largely knowledgeable fans
You too mate, I look at some of the players that yourselves Brighton, Bournemouth have all sold and all three clubs are now well established in the EPL. In a ideal world all three would be able to compete with freedom.

I also realise that Villa have also been lucky enough to have had more resources available than many other teams so there is perspective.

good luck 🤞

"later" doesn't mean "correct". Why would we have a sell-on clause that expires exactly?

"Hey Phil how about we have a sell-on clause but I reckon it should expire in 2024"
"GREAT IDEA!!!!! "

At the family day we used to do at GP, all the other players were happy to chat to the kids/pose for photos/sign autographs etc. Not Konsa - he could barely hide his disdain. Sat there slouched back in his chair like a proper billy big bollox, not even looking at the kids as he signed his name. Always disliked him after that.

Mind you, a cheeky sell-on fee may mellow me slightly...

Ezri Konsa (Arsenal)

Great to have the sell on.

Never warmed to him and clear to see he never warmed to us either.

File him under the dont give a **** section.

Have a proper dislike for him and its clear to see he loves a result against us.

Ezri Konsa (Arsenal)

I always thought that Konsa was the player I knew least about when he played for us. He just never showed any personality, on or off the pitch that we ever saw. I'm not saying he's boring, I have no idea, but you could tell almost nothing about him from his demeanour or anything else. Then he was gone as fast as he arrived.

He was a very composed defender but I wouldn't say his time was particularly memorable.

Ezri Konsa (Arsenal)

So we will be getting a nice touch ??

I appreciate your peace and that’s sad to read.😢
Luckily it’s totally untrue and there is indeed a sizeable sell on.👍
