Think it’s worth pointing out he signed a new 5 year contract a few months ago. They’re signing midfielders because after Casemiro left Mainoo was the only one they had left fit that was capable of playing in a pivot, not because they want him replaced.

Even if they did ever decide to sell him (incredibly unlikely) he’s evidently got the quality to be a key player at far bigger clubs who would pay him far greater wages than we could. This is a guy that, under the current manager, has been starting every single game for a side that just finished 3rd. It’s just completely unrealistic.

Good question. It would definitely up the level of competition for places. I’d argue (sadly) he’s an improvement on Janelt and even Yarmoliuk. But as others have said, he could do a great job at pretty much all other current Prem teams and many in Europe. My thought was that we could provide a better pathway for him. Don't see him not getting many minutes. Carrick clearly rates him and is back in England squad. Absolutely no chance he'd want to come to Brentford.
