Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

Doesn’t he have a son at Fulham? Might not be keen to move to a club outside of London (either uprooting the family or being constantly away commuting)
Below is a youth football focused football podcast from 5 years ago about Ethan's football journey and his son starting in youth football. It is a long listen but I found it interesting. I am hoping with Ethan's experiences combined with his degree in Physical Education that he takes his coaching qualifications and he continues his football journey with Brentford. With our increased squad depth this season hopefully we can go deep in both cup competitions to give him some regular starting spots, even if not first choice for Premier Leagues if all centre backs are fit and available.

If you do leave Ethan it's been an amazing journey. No one can deny you the chance to go and play football, but a brilliant player who would do well on a Coventry side.

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

We have recently paid £17 million for a central defender surely he would be in front of Pinnock!
He'll take a while to bed in and probably not ready in time for Sep's return.

Agree, watched him in the B team game last Sunday, definitely a talent but think he needs some initial playing time in cup games before debut in the premiership unless we have significant injuries.

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

We’ve not seen anything of Frederick pre season assume he’s still in recovery mode from his long term injury. Unless VDB is back very soon I can’t see us letting him go just now
Frederick is seen as a possible fullback rather than a centreback

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

Ethan was great in his pomp but he's lost his pace and always looks uncomfortable with the ball at his feet now. High pressing teams know he is a weak spot

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

Well he has got to play sometime, surely for that money he is not for the B team,
He's a young man in a new club, league and country. Think the club will ease him in so would likely have Ethan ahead of him for now if, worst case, Ajer or Collins pick up a injury before Sepp returns.

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

I am not sure of the validity of this rumour, however, if true there is always the possibility that Pinnock was played to enable Coventry to see him in action.
Regular game time, probably a pay rise, and the chance to become a legend at another PL club may appeal. Not to mention a worst case of relegation extending his pro career by giving him a season at a lower level which even with his loss of pace he’d be well above.

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

If this is legitimate I think the club will let pinnock go if he wants to. He’s been a great servant and deserves to play in his twilight years. Ideal world he’d stay while VDB is out but realistically he’s going to play very little unless we have a complete horror show with injuries

This probably all hypothetical, however, it is extremely doubtful that he will be required for the first few matches unless the football Gods are extremely angry! He has had a full preseason so just how much settling in time is required? As previously stated he was not signed for the B team.

I don’t disagree, but I think we’d have seen him vs Rennes or Frankfurt instead of Ethan though if that was the intention.

We've seen in the past players coming from abroad take up to a season or so to settle, no need to rush him.

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

If you’re expecting to be doing a lot of defending and holding a deepest line then Ethan would still do a fantastic job. If you’re looking to progress quickly from the back and exploiting transitions by pushing up then sadly he doesn’t have the pace anymore to do that.

IMHO it’s exactly the sort of pragmatic signing Coventry should make if they are serious about surviving this season. In the same way we signed Ben Mee to add that little bit of experience to our back line, Ethan can do the same at Coventry. I’d hate to see him go but he still has the ability to play in the PL, just not at the level and the direction we are moving.

Whatever happens he’ll always be a Bees legend!

Two or three years? That is half his contracted period. Ethan will be drawing his pension by then🤣

No one said 2 or 3 years. A season or so to settle (around 18 months) seems perfectly reasonable.

Anyway this is pretty off topic now so best leave it there.

For the best part of twenty million and an entire preseason I expect someone who is ready to play now. He is not B Team at that price. I do not expect a superstar but as forth in line I do expect him to play the odd game or two as required. I would imagine that he would expect that not spend 18
Months in the stiffs.

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

We’ve got Collins, SVdB, Schuster, Ajer, Ji-soo and Fredrick. Should be enough.

No one is saying he's not ready or he's a B team guy but simply that with Sepp out till start of Oct (as per the current info we have with the player tracker) that keeping Ethan around for his experience rather than having a player new to the country as first reserve should Ajer on Collins get hurt might be a good idea as we ease him into the team.

The club could see enough in training to be OK with Ethan moving and then everyone is happy. We'll see I guess.

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

Maybe putting him on for the last 20 minutes against Eintracht Frankfurt was allowing him a last hurrah?

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

Josh Stephenson is the nearest in type to Ethan; left-footed and similar playing style.

I haven’t seen Schuster, yet, so can’t comment about him, but in the current scenario, though, I would be reluctant to let Ethan leave unless he wants to.

I know we have played the regular starters, Collins, SVB and Ajer at various positions across the back line even though they are predominantly right footed players and there are some good up and coming younger guys in the squad, too, it’s just that we need to future-proof our season in case something seriously disrupts the defence (e.g. injuries, end of transfer window shocks, etc.).

I’m obviously heavily biased, like many others, and want to keep all our favourite players, but I am also remembering all those former CB’s of Ethan’s age that, although they may have lost a bit of pace, use their skills in other ways in how they read the game and use their experience in how they defend; it’s not always about sheer pace.

No doubt, PG and his team have to constantly address these types of situations on a regular basis.

I usually give new signings a year especially if they are coming from a lesser league and not used to how we play. Too often certain fans (not aimed at you) think they should hit the ground running and write them off far too early only to be left with serious egg on their faces...

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

Would make sense for all concerned but aren’t we all jumping the gun a bit here? Very scant evidence this is actually happening as yet. Reminds me slightly of the West Ham links in January.

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

Forgot we still have KJS in the building as well, but he’s another you’d expect will get loaned out.

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

If they are planning on playing a back five I think Ethan is a great fit. Otherwise the loss of pace is trouble.

Not trying to knock one of our own, but I really hope injuries dont force us to use him much in league play.

Would be very surprised to see this move happen though. Given injuries, having him around is sensible.

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

Yeah I don't believe that this will happen, unless Coventry really splash the cash.
How much cash would count as a real splash though? For a 33 year old in the last year of his contract who may well be keen on the game time and sign on fee at this juncture in his career a couple of million would be quite a lot.

It also wouldn't look great to play hardball for Ethan but let Hendo walk in the same window when the formers contribution so dwarfs the latters. Granted we clearly had his replacement ready to go, hes even older, and we were probably happy to get his wages off the books, but still it would be a bit odd to me.

Everton reputedly paid £7 million for Norgaard.

Its about value and importance to BFC though. Henderson would be of less value and importance than Ethan, especially with SVB out.

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

Would be surprised a Pl team getting him. He 8sbetter I think now at championship level and surprised West ham not signed him up

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

It is a testament to Mr Pinnock that not only did he have the ability to move from non league football, all the way to Premier League football, something rarely seen, here we are 5 years later , and he is still being desired by other Premier League teams. Amazing.

I always feel a sense of pride watching him play.

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

I’ve been watching the Bees for over 50 years. Ethan is—without the slightest doubt—one of my top 10. To achieve what he achieved for us in our first three PL seasons (take a look at the player of the year polls every season) after Dulwich Hamlet, Forest Green and Barnsley is beyond belief. If he’d come to us a couple of years earlier he’d have strolled into the England team.

If it’s a serious offer and he wants to go to Coventry good luck to him. If not, we’re lucky to have him around. The word legend is bandied about without a second thought nowadays, but Ethan really is right up there for BFC 🐝

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

he still wins almost every header, but it’s true he’s lost a yard of pace. Would do bits for Cov though.

Ahhh, but if he'd joined you a couple of years earlier, he wouldn't have won the highly-coveted Isthmian Charity Shield nor reached the quarter finals of the London Senior Cup. D'you think he'd really want to swap all of that for a few England caps? I think not.

Ethan Pinnock (Coventry)

Loved his partnership with Pontus, great CB pairing that no forward could ever hope to bully. As others observe, we all owe thanks to Ethan and wish him well whatever he chooses to do
