Things Others Say About Brentford FC

Doesn't make sense, but that's more because of our Midfield already being a healthy size, rather than any big questions hanging over Torp.

Things Others Say About Brentford FC

Guardian football weekly preview has us finishing between 7th and 10th. Phillipe Auclair, French journalist, absolutely waxing lyrical about Sangare….. thinks he’s a very special player and Ā£40m is an amazing deal.

I suspect Sangare might just be a big talking point this season.

Really this isn’t the place to discuss our academy or media reporting of it. Please stick to ā€œteams like Brentfordā€ nonsense and similar. Or genuine praise from unlikely sources.

Plus this has already been posted in the relevant academy thread yesterday.

If it's the same Philippe Auclair I'd pay attention to him. He's a fine musician - big in the Far East - loves cricket despite being French (set up his own team i believe) and most importantly, married the sister of a friend of mine.

It is the very same - he does talk about his music sometimes

I let "tiny" pass, but stopped reading at our "bruising center backs lumbering into the box".

Times Football podcast pre season predictions interesting - Tony Cascarino calling us out at the surprise team this season (and that we will continue to do well and push up the league). Gregor Robertson (former footballer now journalist) named Sangare as the most exciting signing in the league this summer.

The general view seems to be that £40m is fantastic business.

That photo of "The Gtech Community Stadium" took my breath away!
I'm not on 'X', so I had to go to the SI website, where the full picture is a bit better. Or maybe not.

Things Others Say About Brentford FC

In tonight’s Arsenal v Coventry commentary, just before Arsenal’s 3rd goal, they mentioned the last time that Arsenal were defeated on the opening PL night, as being the ’infamous’ defeat to Brentford.

I have a theory that nowadays there are very few PL televised commentaries on any matches, whereby Brentford is not mentioned in some way!

I’ve been developing the same theory. We’re like the PL commentary version of Godwin’s Law.

Incorrect use of the word infamous surely? Famous would do.

Just listened to The Overlap Sky Sports fan debate with Carrager and Scholes (so you don’t have to!) 90 minute podcast which only covered half the teams. In the 90 minutes our section lasted 22 seconds (I counted) with the analysis being ā€œthey recruit wellā€. They then went on to talk about Everton (who let’s face it will finish 13th) for 9 minutes.

Despite being a team that could qualify for Europe these type of podcasts are still obsessed by the ā€œold big sixā€. Thank god for the likes of guardian football weekly who give proper analysis on us.

I thought the very same. Love it.

It’s a 2 part pod I think and there is no mention of us on the other part (I think). I watch all of these and can only remember 2 bee’s appearances ever. Ipswich are on there more than us and they weren’t even in the prem last year!

It's ok though i don't need a couple of tw*ts to tell me if we're good or sh*t,i have eyes and the same goes for most of the other uninformed podcasts out there.

Once again with Lincoln v Portsmouth, and Benji Arthur and Brentford in commentary.

We are mentioned everywhere nowadays, making up for decades of relative oblivion!šŸ˜Šāš½ļøšŸ

There are 2 current and 1 former Bee in that game - though Konak hasn't come on yet.

EDIT - 2 former if you count players who were on loan to us.

Not hugely surprising.

Just like us, most fans will be most interested in hearing the segments on their own club and other clubs have more fans than us, therefore, makes sense to spend more time on segments more people will want to listen to (to your example, don’t think anyone here thinks we have more fans than Everton).

Other than the ā€˜big clubs’ they will spend time on clubs they think will be relegated (hence the promoted teams).

Podcasts fronted by pundits, ex players or ā€˜fans’ will always focus on big teams and hold superficial opinions.

R5’s preview earlier was very Spursy but they did go on to say how immense a signing Sangare was.
