Oh dear. This has really upset me. One of my boyhood heroes. A great player and clubman at such a difficult period for the club and a wonderful person too. I met him many times at Brentford and also QPR where he was a youth coach and he was kind, warm, generous and intelligent.

A true gentleman. RIP.

Such sad news.
I saw Bobby score that penalty at Griffin Park, that won us promotion vs.Exeter.
I also saw him take offence against a defender, who fired the football (old style) into the Griffin Park crowd, hitting a child full in the face.
A true legend of this football club.
I hope that you meet up with your fellow team mates.

Remember that goal so well. RIP Bobby. Always thought of him as our Alan Gilzean. Top player and a true gentleman.

Bobby Ross a legend and my favourite player. As a 14 year old I spoke to him at Hull in the FA Cup in the early 70s. For a young Brentford fan this was amazing and I have never forgotten it.

Inside forward but often filled-in as main striker.

I met Bobby on a handful of occasions and on two of those, we spent a long time talking football. He loved Brentford, you could see how much it meant to him. He was no slouch as a player; the Hearts team of the early 1960s was a great one.

We would let him come in and watch training and I know how much he appreciated it. He was our captain in the 1967 crisis and navigated it superbly in what must have been strained circumstances. Their jobs were literally on the line.

We've lost some real titans recently in Gelson, Hawley, and Ross. They put their heart and soul into the club and the easiest hall of fame picks. They don't make them like that anymore. I just wish I could have seen them play live.

That's a heartfelt post. Nicely worded. As a young lad, him, Gelson, Phillips and Hawley were idols.

Bobby Ross was an intelligent player and highly respected by the rest of the team that won promotion in the 1971-2 season. A good guy. RIP Bobby.

I loved watching Bobby Ross a great whole hearted player. I used to call him ball bearing feet as he had a strange running style but was very skillful and hardworking . He played in a era when it was troubling times for Brentford but he was inspirational. RIP Bobby

I remember seeing him play. A very hard-working type of player, midfield/inside forward if you go back that far! I think he went to Hayes after the Bees, and after that, QPR, though not as a player.

He left Brentford to join Cambridge united just after they entered the football league if I remember correctly.

Id forgotten that my Sister who would have been about 12 or so st the time, had a crush on Bobby. She sent me a text last night..... Viva Bobby Ross!! I'd forgotten the song too.

So many memories and so sad; I can see him taking the penalty into the Ealing Road against Exeter as if it were yesterday, one of the great Brentford moments.

RIP Bobby (and we should have never let you go to Cambridge, just as bad decision as letting big John go to Blackburn)

I could swear the 13th minute pen vs Exeter was in front of the Royal Oak.
I do remember running onto the pitch after the game and taking a clump of said penalty spot home. Mind you, I was 10 years old and it was more than half a century ago 🤷‍♂️ So I’m not going to argue with you.

I can confirm that the penalty was in the 13th minute.

A class player who we signed on the back of an outstanding game playing for Shrewsbury in the cup against a Chelsea side that included Webb, Harris, Hutchinson, Osgood, etc al. Remember after a game at GP I along with a mate were collecting autographs and he was one of the last out . It was late, dark and cold so he gave us both a lift back home to Ealing where he lived also. Remember he had IIRC a smart Rover 3500 car, i was impressed. Must have been on good money then.

The penalty was at the Brook Road end.

Very nice gentleman, I was a member at Isleworth Explorers Boys Club and he used to come down every Monday and coach us boys. On the couple of times he used to visit Griffin Park and I had a chance to speak with him, he fondly remembered those times. Great times and he will be remembered but sadly missed
