All nonsense aside, I remember Martin Rowlands being very impressive on his debut against Mansfield in the opening match of the 1998/99 season. Came in as a kid from Farnborough and totally ran the show

Yes, hard to disagree...having seen him play a pre season game a couple of weeks before (maybe at Farnborough Town or Maidenhead on a Tuesday night? Anyone help my fuzzy memory) I was looking forward to seeing if he could do it at 'league level' and he smashed it.

Shame about the subsequent shenanigans but he was impressive to begin...

See him at Chesham as A Trailist. earlier was told by his Dad who he was.

Won 6 nil I believe he was way above everyone on the pitch that night.

I don't think it beats Sangare but I do remember watching Pontus in his first game for us (the 1 in a million loss to Birmingham funnily enough) and thinking we had finally brought in the player we needed to add some proper aggression and solidify our defence. Felt like a moment where things changed.

Yes. 5-1 win over Bristol Rovers. Tony Mahoney, another debutant, also scored. What a team we had going forward in 82/83. We really should have finished a lot higher than 9th.

If only we'd have lost that FA Cup tie, rather than it going to a replay, Mahoney wouldn't have broken his leg. The wheels came off after that.

Jay Tabb - saw him warming up and his shirt number said something like 15, and I remember thinking that looks like it's probably about how old he is. Then he came on as a sub and was instantly a level above the others.

Nathan Elder - away at Mansfield scored an own goal but also a one-on-one right in front of us. Fun times!

Nathan Elder is a cracking shout. Good game that and good celebrations as he ran through and scored.

So many debuts and goals from yesteryear that it is impossible to really pick one out.

I was going to say Bob Booker hat=trick on what I thought was his debut but that has been corrected.

My favourite was John Dick, although he only scored one but signing a player of his stature was staggering for little old Brentford!

what a forward line:

Block, Brooks, McAdams, Dick, McLeod - with all three inside forwards scoring over 20 goals and both wingers chipping in with double figures. What a season but being Brentford it did subsequently go horribly wrong!!!

Perfect too - left foot, right foot, header.

The header was a ball that went up really high at the Brook Road end, was kept in by the wind and came down vertically for him to head in.

The one which springs to mind was Paul Smith coming on as a sub versus Southend in the Football Trophy to replace Gottskálksson who went off injured. Didn't know much about him at the time, seemed very young and inexperienced (on paper), first game for Brentford (and in professional football / football league?), and made some great saves to see us through.

For a debut start, how about Jaidon getting a hattrick of assists tonight against Birmingham...?
