Obviously don't have the insight that some do but I'd wager that he was well on our radar when he was at Slavia Prague and now we've got the chance to sign him. Very much doubt he's being signed because of what he did at West Ham and far more about what he can be in our system. The level of trust I have in PG and our recruitment department is absolute

There’s an old thread from 2024 I think where we were linked.

It's hard to get excited for this one if it means we're getting rid of Henry who's currently match fit and played well last night.
Not sure if it's just me being too nostalgic but the idea of him leaving us now doesn't feel good at all when we could finally reach Europe and it would be brilliant to see him play there for all he's done at the club.

There's a fantasy scenario where we sign Diouf and Henry stays and this is just an early depth signing for European competition next season. I just don't want to get my hopes up and believe that just to see a news piece in a few days of Rico Henry signing for Coventry or Ipswich.

Thanks for getting in touch Mrs Henry, it’s nicer to live in London than dead end towns

That's the supporter talking. The businessman (PG) will be thinking can we upgrade and improve the squad at a value that means potential future profit...... and can we get good value on Rico by selling now to PL club crying out for a left back with only days left in the transfer window.

It's why we are where we are as a club.

One of the mistakes many clubs often make is not evolving the squad and relying on to past heroes ( e.g. Liverpool). which then leads to panic and overpriced buys. No reason why Rico should not have a decent season with us but we need to blend in his long term successor.

Even if Rico stays this season he’s out of contract next summer. He wouldn’t be around for our European adventure anyway.

Firstly, no one has said Rico is leaving.
Secondly, the club is bigger than any player and has to come first.
Thirdly, continual improvement even when we are doing well is a strength, and time waits for no man, even Rico unfortunately.
Lastly, i can confirm you are too nostalgic, and we may not even qualify for Europe this season, that would be dissapointing i know.

You are obviously Brentford through and through, but trust me its all part of the journey. Rico will always be a legend for what he achieved at the club, and will remain in spirit long after he has moved on, but just under a different name.

El Hadji Malick Diouf (LB, West Ham, 21)

I know a few that are laughing at them fleecing us
They can laugh as much as they like, West Ham are the Championship, and losing players right left and centre. Brentford have made a wonderful start to their 6th season in the Premier League whilst viewing the prospects of a European place. We own our own ground, are financially sound, and well able to pay for such transfers, whilst they are merely tenants at the Olympic Stadium, and probably worrying about paying the rent. Let them laugh if it helps them to forget the perilous state that they are in.

El Hadji Malick Diouf (LB, West Ham, 21)

Just to stir the pot. No ones mentioning KLP as a possible departure ? Has one of the supposedly big boys turned up and made an offer ?
If correct, which I doubt, then we can look forward to a truly massive chunk of cash, 10% more if it Newcastle. All this transfer cash is funding our journey.

Eloquently put. If they are laughing they are just the living embodiment of the "This is fine" meme.

They are saying the thing we are saying to spurs about savinho and forest about delap

El Hadji Malick Diouf (LB, West Ham, 21)

Not just a left back, and I’m sure he will surprise many by also being registered as a goalkeeper. PG is no monkey and knows that the club needs more than 5/6 options for onion bag guardian.

El Hadji Malick Diouf (LB, West Ham, 21)

I hope this signing is true .Last season we were putting out a team cobbled together of who was fit . This coming season it appears to we have enough quality players to chose from depending on the oppo and what tictacs we play to . We will also be able to change the style of play during a match to f*** up the oppo

I love Rico to the point it's genuinely difficult even on Football Manager to sell him  He's pretty much been my 'last man standing' from the original squad on every edition since he joined BFC!

BUT with all emotion removed, it's our last chance to get some money for him, injuries have very sadly taken their toll and he deserves to be playing week in week out while he still can. He did fine last night, so he can still do a job at a lower Prem or upper Championship side, but I think now is the right time for goodbye.

Will be gutted when it's announced though.

El Hadji Malick Diouf (LB, West Ham, 21)

I still think he is seen not necessarily as a starter yet but as a specialist. Keano the better overall player, but if we are behind then Diouf the better choice due to his crossing ability
I think it's more that we've been trying to add pace+power to our side and that good big'uns are better than good little'uns all else being equal.
Both rugby and football have evolved the same way imo, in that carrying lots of smaller players is a rare luxury now (or the player has to be truly exceptional), and the better teams have both technical ability AND size/athleticism.

El Hadji Malick Diouf (LB, West Ham, 21)

Really happy with this kayode and diouf as fullbacks happy days.
Been saying for a while still interested in him but kept being told it wasn’t happening.
😂😂😂

El Hadji Malick Diouf (LB, West Ham, 21)

Very excited by this.

Watched him play quite a few times last season, and thought then he would fit us perfectly.

Super athletic, strong, 6ft tall, longish throw i think, can cross on the outside at pace, can beat a man.

And I think some of the criticisms about his defending have been a bit on the extreme side, I think many will be very pleasantly surprised.

This move also gains us a wide forward, as its allows KLP to compete in the forward line.

What a window!

Irrelevant of his fine performances at LB, I've always thought to myself that KLP is a forward player in his DNA. He won't have been kicking a ball around his back garden as a nipper pretending to be a full back.

El Hadji Malick Diouf (LB, West Ham, 21)

Get this done, sort out a loan for Meghoma plus maybe one or two others then close the window and relax

I’ll leave the choice of starting LB to be Keith’s nice problem to have.

But as with last night and Saturday, the ability regardless of starting XI to bring on 5 subs pretty much everywhere on the pitch to close out the game and turn the screw even when 2-3 goals up ought to be mouth watering for us and fairly terrifying for many opponents.

No more “it’s OK, we can tire out KLP or lure him into a yellow and exploit his replacement for the last 30” when that might just involve bringing in someone we turn into Kayode’s long lost twin.

He set all sorts of scoring records as a junior in Hull…
Just to muddy everyone’s waters, I’ll point out that when the subs happened last night, Hickey stepped into midfield. Again…

Total football...

My concern now is who gets the squad places since we have too many 1st teamers. Maybe players like VDB, Milambo, JDS etc will have to relinquish their numbers till Jan?

El Hadji Malick Diouf (LB, West Ham, 21)

I'm pretty sure Diouf did well at the World Cup got good feedback from the BBC / ITV pundits during the WC coverage, saying that this is the player they were expecting when playing with a settled and quality team...

The bonus windfall from Konsa's sale covers the amortisation for this season

As I see it, MK and Hickey on the right, Diouf and Rico on the left. Then Schade and Dango on the wings with KLP and Jaidon covering / pushing them.

Possibly Nunes isn't going to push Schade and Dango as much as they would have hoped this season, so bringing in Diouf to allow KLP to move further forward.

El Hadji Malick Diouf (LB, West Ham, 21)

Here's a new take.
40million for a LB is ALOT. Its more than I ever thought I'd see us offer for a full back. I thought it was insanity when Chelsea paid circa £60m for Cucueralla from Brighton and I still do.
But its an inflated market and whilst we are masters at not pandering to that dynamic, perhaps the view is that for a player who is young, mouldable ,with premiership experience its a price worth meeting now rather than in a season or two . We still get a season out of Rico at least and we have time to bed the lad in. In another year trying to buy a player like that ,and having the opportunity to do so, may well be alot harder.
Rico has played 35 games in three years, not all of them starts. Not saying he's finished but his availability cannot be relied upon. Hickey is pretty much same story. And KLP might be needed further forward from time to time.

Shrewd move to strengthen this position. Though whether this player is the solution remains to be seen.

By my count we've got 24 players who don't qualify as U21 - one of them is Ethan Pinnock. Don't think it'll be an issue.

If SVDB is going to be fit soon he will get a squad place.

Nobody, because we don’t.
