I've become fairly certain over the years that I'm the only one in the entire state, but putting something out there just in case... Any bees in the greater Birmingham area?

Means a lot that you asked me. Thank you, and I’d love to share my unorthodox story.

I used to be like many Americans in the southern U.S. that hated soccer (sorry) because it was “low scoring” and players cried everytime they got touched (which is what the NBA is now ironically). In college (at Auburn University), my friends that liked Liverpool, Chelsea, United, Forest, and Man City convinced me to just give it a try in summer 2022 so I could be invested for the world cup. I read about everyone’s history, culture, etc. and the emphasis on community and family at Brentford reminded me so much of Auburn, and I absolutely LOVED the data driven analytical approach. Told them I was picking Brentford and one of them said “I love the bees, but pick a good team.” First game I watched was 4-0 over United which was awesome and plenty of fun, but then followed that up with the 3-2 loss to Fulh*m the next game on the Mitrovic winner in added time. And after that loss, knowing that was the main rival outside of QPR, I had become emotionally attached to Brentford, having then gone through both such a high and such a low. Then, of course, we beat all of my friends’ teams that season, and before I knew it, I loved the beautiful game more than baseball and basketball simply because of how much I loved my new team. I’ve never been to England outside of a short layover at Heathrow on the way to Poland, but I’ve been fully invested ever since those games, and I watch every week just about. At the very least, my friends (even the Forest one, incredibly) all want Brentford to succeed and get to Europe, so in that way I’m not entirely alone. Was there for the American Summer Series game against Brighton in Atlanta. Would like to come to the Gtech at some point soon, hoping that if we get conference league I can swing a Thursday and Sunday game in one trip. Would also come and sing/stand the whole game and not be one of those tourists that sits on their hands the whole time. I’ve read the threads about that being an issue.

What an interesting question 🤣 I’d say it’s pretty good in a post covid world. I mean I work in an automobile manufacturing plant, so I wash my hands or use hand sanitizer pretty frequently even though my job doesnt involve touching cars or parts very often. Also wash my hands plenty while cooking, obviously even moreso if raw chicken is involved. Hopefully that answers your question

Of course, after saying I was certain I was the only one in the entire state less than a month ago, I was downtown last night, and two British folks were asking me for bar recommendations. I asked them what their clubs were just to be friendly, and sure enough one of them was a Brentford season ticket holder. So cool. God bless this club, God bless this sport, and God bless the world cup.

When I went to Auburn (War Eagle), sometimes Halftime in downtown would show games on Saturdays, especially when our football wasn't in season. Maybe the Argentina-Iceland friendly that got played at JHS last month will give everyone on the Plains soccer fever. 🤣

My friends and I would always go to Side Track (coffee shop, best in Auburn/Opelika) in downtown Opelika and watch our respective teams games on our laptops (except during football and basketball season on Saturdays) and that was our version of going to the pub for the match. My fraternity also got together at the house for Tuesday/Wednesday afternoon UCL plenty, and that was always a ton of fun. Got a ton of “Brentford, why the hell would you support Brentford?” at those

Thank you for your missionary work. We have that as #teamslikeBrentford over here. Tinpot is also regularly used.

My fiance (now wife) and I discovered how great downtown Opelika was right before we graduated and moved back to North Carolina for new jobs.

Can’t believe there isn’t an Atlanta Bees thread. I know quite a few. I’m from the area myself originally. I would be there and I would start a bar fight with the Fulham fans (also in Atlanta) if not for a wedding I’m headed to in Huntsville, AL.

Feels like PL honestly gave kinda late notice on this to me, I guess its not too long after schedule release but maybe would’ve liked this a little sooner. Hopefully they do more things like this.

Can’t speak to Birmingham, England, but Birmingham, Alabama (The Magic City!) is a cool town that’s only getting more hip. People sleep on Alabama, there are a lot of great communities.
