West Stand - A Call to Arms

Indeed, but it was also such a unique time that it can't really be used as any kind of meaningful yardstick.
Yes, agreed.
That situation was unique mainly because the POs are such high stakes that you can't recreate for every league game. It was also the first game with fans for months, and attendees allowed at the game were specifically loyal long time fans.

West Stand - A Call to Arms

Nope.

But with the restrictions you mention, its still the loudest its been, with quarter the numbers inside. Your point is a bit silly isnt it.

No flag waving, no orchestrated marches.
Just genuine, passionate vocal support.

Its doable.
No it isn’t it’s just an attempted humorous (that some people found funny) response to your post.
Lighten up none of this stuff on here is important

Nobody should need motivating to make noise for a promotion play off semi final.
The fact that it was loud that day with 4000 was impressive but it's also what you'd expect in that situation (I'd dispute the claim that it was The Loudest It's Ever Been anyway, but it was remarkably loud for 4000).

Getting people up for a 3pm league fixture against say Sunderland is a different type of challenge and it's difficult to just "do it" otherwise we'd already be doing it. And telling people not to bother with supporter initiatives and just sing is kind of missing that point.

My friend couldn't make the game on Saturday but said the flags looked very impressive on TV so that's good... Could also hear us singing the Sangare song loud and clear during the game.
Shouldn't need motivating for any game.

Well done for the efforts on Saturday 👍

I'm getting home Champions league vibes 🥰

This is really the rub of the whole debate. Who’s to say somebody isn’t motivated if they don’t make noise or make less noise? Takes all sorts to make the world go round. I’ve been massively up for games, but I tend to watch games closely rather than getting lost in the atmosphere. Other times I will get more carried away.

I also don’t think it is a coincidence that the traditionally recognised loud teams have strong city identities as well as being fans of their club that whips things up further.

Add in..,'We're the New Road, were the New Road Griffin Park'
That was led by the New Road & the other sides responded & with each circuit round the stands it got louder & louder as more joined in. Heard it at Southampton when they did it & thought "Why don't we still do this?" rather than " Stand up... "

West Stand - A Call to Arms

My point was that we were assured that if the West Stand led the way, the rest of the stadium would follow. Yet Saturday shows that that doesn't necessary follow.

Causing me to ask what else needs to be done.

Or do we simply accept that 75% of the fanbase prefer just to watch, while leaving it to the 25% to create an atmosphere fitting what the players on the pitch deserve (and which they have made clear they want.)
Who gave you that assurance and why would you believe it ?
The West Stand is our noisy stand. Other stands are quieter and always will be.
Don’t worry about it, it’s ok.
I’m in the South and ideally would like a few more shouty people like me but I’m happy to let people support in the way they choose.

Brentford fans on the whole are quite a cerebral bunch whereas I look at Leeds fans and they're primarily a bunch of knuckle draggers. I think the latter personality type tends to sing more. That's not to say the West Stand is full of northern knuckle dragger types, just that they're the chosen few that are cerebral but also get involved singing too. (Plus a few knuckle draggers).

Don’t mind the flags
As long as we don’t do anything like “mauled by the tigers” - damn that’s bad

“Stung by the bees” and the we start pointing our finger in an aggressive way

Better than wiggling our arses at them!!! 😁

Why not put some flags in the east stand..... inevitably the crowd there turned to be more transient, it might encourage them to sing more.

At the very least it would look great as the teams come out to have both ends watching flags

I believe it’s funded by donations (maybe one from the club too) so probably not affordable until more donations from fans.

There was already enough of an issue with people taking them home after the game, hopefully most of them are brought back to the next match. I feel like this would be more of a problem in the East

Save the donations.

Just be vocal

I started watching Ealing Road podcast this morning, they appeared to suggest that its funded by BIAS and TW8 casuals, requested not to take flags home.

I didn’t take one home but maybe an announcement or screen on the big screen should have requested flags be left or handed in.

Well if they did fund the flags Hats off to them

But while we are in the prem, surely the club can and should be able to cover it. If it creates a better atmosphere and that delivers a single higher finishing position then that alone is worth £3m

Better to spend money on flags than the new posters outside there ground..... Though I do like those

The club funded it, TW8 supplied them, BIAS helped organise.

Close thread then

Is this why season ticket prices had to rise and the 1% levy added match day tickets?
Happy to pay it if fellow supporters get something out of it. Took advantage of the great 0% Credit deal offered myself to spread the cost. Give people a reason to get involved & they'll get involved. Keep prodding the lion & it will roar.

The East stand was much better atmosphere compared to before, not quite sure if it was due it being the first game of the season,

but each season its getting better and better, I remember when they never sang, now they do,

West Stand - A Call to Arms

A certain Mr jmf took some convincing apparently 😂 Keith and Kev really wanted it though.
Very unlikely to be done for every game
Have to be a bit negative and say I'm in agreement. Genuinely glad others enjoyed it but it feels to me personally, very forced and not at all dissimilar to using a drum. If it were every game I'd be disappointed.

West Stand - A Call to Arms

No, I was in the West. And such was the noise around me, that it wasn't really possible to hear what was going on elsewhere yesterday. But you can tell when an area is animated when they rise to their feet and wave their arms etc. And while I saw this a few times from the South Stand (western end), and precisely once, briefly, from the (otherwise pathetic) Spurs support, I saw none of this from the North. Though you could see applause from there immediately after each goal for a few seconds, so I don't think my observations are misplaced. (Am perfectly happy to be corrected btw)

Anyhow, I feel that those who pooh-poohed Saturday's activities in the West Stand in the run-up to the game were proven wrong, so I wonder could we do something for the rest of the ground? For with yesterday's measures offering hope, let's capitalise on it! (y)
You’re contradicting yourself non stop: you say you had noise around that you couldn’t hear and moan about the noise in North Stand? Then you go for visuals: no one stood up, take a wild guess West Stand is safe standing N Stand isn’t and we stand up when we want. (There’s a chant 🤣); So here’s your trip to Specsavers

Also you mofo had the f***ing flags 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 do you think if N Stand would had flags at the ready they would just sit? And who do you think gives the most aggro to the visiting fans?

Also don’t forget to blame the fans in N Stand for the 121 section close to the away fans being a very grey area to call it the least

But like the other says is no point in getting to each other’s necks but venting had to be done.

West stand did great hopefully will carry like that all season and it should trickle down to every section

Much love ❤️
