Leeds 1 - 1 Brentford (Schade)

I couldn't watch the game but I think the fact that Leeds fans, almost to a man, seem absolutely delighted with a point from their first home game against a #teamlikeBrentford tells its own story.
To be fair to them there’s not many “teams like Brentford” comments….. the general analysis is that we are a bloody good team.

Leeds 1 - 1 Brentford (Schade)

Hopefully Fabio be up to speed shortly so he can be natural replacement / sub for Damsgaard which will allow us to continue to link up midfield and attack as well as providing an additional goal threat. Although once Diouf up to speed we may also see KLP in that role either from start or changing position during a game.

KLP should have been replaced by Henry on 60 mins. KLP should then have replaced Damsgaard who was running on fumes. Very poor use of subs today.

Why? Have never seen the bloke play, been injured for over a year, I am sure the bloke has great potential, but even if fit is he getting in ahead of the 5-6 for fit ones we had today?
The only almost fit am was FC and not sure he's what we required today AM would have been an option in AM

Leeds 1 - 1 Brentford (Schade)

No he doesn’t. He’s Hartlepool through and through.
Tony Harrington was born in Cleveland, Yorkshire!!!

He may have emigrated to Hartlepool subsequently.

However, as the saying goes - "You can take a man out of Yorkshire, but you can't take Yorkshire out of the man" means a person’s deep roots, habits, and pride in their home county stay with them forever.

Leeds 1 - 1 Brentford (Schade)

Tim Howard on the US broadcast crew called it a clear penalty. Schade's brilliant goal came against the most expensive keeper in Premier League history (40M GBP). Trafford is also the 4th most expensive in the world..

Tough to get too disappointed when looking at the end of day table in a Champions League spot. Time to take it to Sunderland at home!

Those posters who doubt the Shade incident was a stamp should look closely at the photograph above. Close examination will just show the toe of Shade boot under the Leeds boot.

Hardly emigrated very far!

Bollox. It was a stonewall penalty. How can you look at the replays on MOTD and think otherwise. He trod on his foot. He didn't choose to fall over. Why would he in that position?
If the ref thinks it's a dive then he should have booked Kevin.
Wtf VAR was thinking escapes me.

It’s a penalty all day long, no discussion needed. What makes it worse is literally seconds later as Leeds clear the ball a foul is given against Brentford for less contact…

Sorry to break it to you, but Cleveland doesn’t exist. He’s a Hartlepool fan.

I had the impression the ref blew the whistle quickly to get VAR involved about the previous play. My first reaction was that Schade was trailing his leg and falling too easily, but the replays show it was a pen, hard to understand what the VAR was viewing though

Cleveland is about as far from Leeds as you can get while still being in Yorkshire. It’s like calling people from Dorset Londoners.

Leeds 1 - 1 Brentford (Schade)

You do realise that most of Yorkshire hates Leeds with a passion greater even than the rest of the country?
You know that’s a good point I hadn’t thought about. Unfortunately it doesn’t fit my agenda, so I will be disregarding. The league is corrupt and out to get us, don’t you see?

Leeds 1 - 1 Brentford (Schade)

I haven't read anything above so apologies if this is repetitive, but it's my take.

First half we were absolute class. Some of the triangles we were playing between Sangare, Janelt, Damsgaard, KLP, Schade, Thiago etc were world class and if we were a little more clinical we coulda gone in 2 or 3-0 to the good and it wouldn't have been an unfair scoreline.

What happened 2nd half was as obvious to us as it would have been to Keith Andrews. Leeds came back, pressured us high up the pitch and filled in the gaps they were leaving in the first half. Suddenly we had less time on the ball and they were creating a few half chances. The goal came and tbh I thought i'd seen this play before, I assumed we'd lose. In the end I think 1-1 was probably a fair scoreline because we let them off... we should have buried them in the first half and not given their "hills have eyes" fans anything to shout about. The ref gave a couple of really weird decisions, especially the one against Janelt where he got booked for making no tackle and then saying something. I'm just so pleased that **** Harry Wilson didn't score.

Either way, very proud of what I saw and you've got to be encouraged by that first half. I'll do a review of the players:

Kelleher- Had one save to make from Justin and made it well, apart from that had a quiet day. Good with his feet.
Kayode- Causing them problems in the first half, a solid display i'd say.
Collins- Thought he was good again, I didn't blame him for the missed placed passes second half, Leeds pressed higher and our midfield didn't want to know
Ajer- Looked clumsy to me and i'm his biggest fan. He wont have to do too much wrong to lose his place to VDB when he's back so he needs to switch on
KLP- Unusually defensively very solid, that ball into the box tho.... hit the first man about 4 times. Expect him to lose his place soon but he is quality
Sangare- Part of nearly everything positive we did, once he gets used to the pace of this league he'll be scary
Damsgaard- What he did was class, I really want him to put about a stone on of muscle tho if he can, he's shrugged off the ball all the time
Janelt- Super solid first half but went missing at times 2nd
Schade- Gosh what a frustrating player, unbelievable finish, poor miss inside 30 seconds and then miscontrolled the ball countless occasions, weird game! more good than bad tho for sure
Thiago- Really good throughout I thought, worked incredibly hard
Anthony- Hmm thought he was the weakest of the forwards in this position, looked like he did for Burnley rather than first 2 games for the Bees. He'll have better games

Yarmo- Huffed and puffed, did enough but isn't getting into the first team ahead of anyone at the moment IMO, but his time will come
Wilson- Looks good to me, i'm glad hes playing for us not against us this season
Dango- Thought he looked hungry when he came on, he'll start v Sunderland
Henry- Didn't see enough really to make an impression
Hickey- Same as above

A bit concerned with the chance where Dan James broke in the 2nd half, although KLP showed great pace to catch him up/force his abysmal cross!!!
What happened that he had 60 yards of open space in front of him when he got the ball?!!
Horrible flashback to Bournemouth Play Off Semi Final!!! 😱

Leeds 1 - 1 Brentford (Schade)

True, but they seemed more limited than usual given that we apparently dominated the 1st half but showed almost nothing of it!
Despite dominating there wasn’t too many good chances. Which is what they tend to show in highlights

We had Leeds fans initiate conversation on 3 occasions on the walk back to the car. All were very complimentary about how we played and singling out individual players - Dams, Schade & Thiago. One even stated we are good enough for top 4!

Their only gripe was that we should have more fans following us.

Leeds 1 - 1 Brentford (Schade)

As people have generally indicated first half was exceptional, probably the best we have been in terms of football and domination since we entered the PL, 2nd half was always going to be different, and you could see we started to tire. That was evident in our decision making and technique starting to falter. Thought we should have made some subs at 70 mins to freshen things up and try to stop the attacks down our left hand side. Easy to say from the stands though. We must have improved a lot if I am disappointed with a draw at Leeds.

That was Dan "im really really fast, but crap at football" James, proving he now doesnt have any reddeming features to his game.

Leeds 1 - 1 Brentford (Schade)

I wouldnt be annoyed.
I would accept it was a clear penalty.

Another clear case of VAR bottle job,
If that had been someone like Bruno F or Harry K on the receiving end of a tackle like that , 100% penalty
You can bet your donkeys life on it.

They are. I live in Knaresborough and have four associates who are dirty Leeds. They all text me saying they’d got away with it and in fairness to a man praised us as an excellent side. It goes to prove what we all know, you need at least a two goal cushion at most levels, such a shame we didn’t hold out but we were superb in the first half. Things rarely stay the same in a game especially after a team has had a very strong team talk at half time. We look a different proposition from last year. I want to keep a sense of perspective but I’m thinking league and cup double for starters.

Leeds 1 - 1 Brentford (Schade)

I thought about this immediately after the game and now I'll type some drivel to get it off my chest... so apologies in advance.

I'd looked at how Leeds had set up for their games against Forest and they were almost the same starting against us – 3 big CB's with 2 big CB-type players holding in front with wing backs; quite a defensive shield. It would be quite a challenge to break that down, I thought.

What impressed me was our tactical set-up, and how our players must've fully understood it, to pin back their holding players, creating the space to dominate the midfield and use the wide space behind their wing backs; keep moving them about to create opportunities in the box. It worked a treat and deserved more than one goal. That specific tactical planning, not just "we've got our formation and that's how we play", seems to be an evolution and maybe that's the influence of Damien Duff, who knows?

It needs to develop past that, though. It was obvious Farke's default set-up had been sussed and he would need completely to change at half time... and he did, and he did again half-way through the second half, that was impressive. We never got to grips with those changes, so I think there's more work to be done on a 'Plan B'.

Or, it may all be a product of my vivid imagination and we'll beat Sunderland on Saturday anyway.
