Signs we are a big club

Walking around Dubrovnik old town yesterday in bees top and 5 or 6 different locals mentioned bees and knew about us. They all support Chelsea/ Arsenal etc but love the Premier league. One guy even knew we hated Fulham !

Another said they don’t get many Brentford round there so on second thoughts we are a small club again.

I last came about 12 years back and don’t recall anyone knowing Fuxk all about 🐝 😂
Dubrovnik is class!

Went in 2018 and no one had a clue. How times change😅

Signs we are a big club

One of the Times journalists on their football podcast mentioned Brentford, and it WASN'T through the lens of one of the Big 6 clubs.

Was it through a "will Andrews do as well this year?" lens? Yes, but he also said he was excited for us signing Sangare.

Massive, I say.

Signs we are a big club

Man City desperately trying to emulate the class and success of Brentford. What’s a copyright lawsuit when you don’t care about 125 financial irregularities …

Was this pod "The Game"?

Article in ‘The i’ yesterday. Head Honcho of Coventry saying they will attack the PL like Brentford, rather than like Sunderland. Looking to buy value and sell high etc. However, they have the advantage of being a one-club city, with a bigger fan base and stadium.
You do end up wondering how it all went wrong before!
Coventry have already spent almost £100m and broken their transfer record 4 times in this window.

Signs we are a big club

The most obvious sign that we are becoming a Big Club is when no one reads or contributes to this Thread!

Signs we are a big club

I firmly believe we can consider ourselves a big club certainly in terms of our Premier league status, we even have proper recognition abroad as seen in the media predictions thread. However I don't know if others in the 60+ years of following the Bees brigade still get the same sureal feeling when the name "Brentford" is mentioned (in any language) along with the elite.

The bee has been a symbol of Manchester since the nineteenth century. But that’s not to say it hasn’t become much more popular in recent years, nor that its use on that shirt isn’t suspiciously close to the way we’ve used it, particularly on the back of the neck.

First they steal our song, then our badge.......

Happy for this to be fact checked but I think I'm right in saying that Callum Wilson's league debut for us on Saturday means that 50% of the centre forwards fielded by England since 2023 have played for Brentford (the three that haven't are Kane, Solanke and Nketiah).

Signs we are a big club

Newly promoted Premier League side(s) signing our squad players.

Signs we are a big club

“90 million pounds worth of substitutes that Brentford have just brought on”

Commentator on the Birmingham bees game tonight.
This is great. Our squad vale is approaching ten times what it was in the penultimate season in the championship. We have half a billion euros of players.

Signs we are a big club

The most incredible thing when I think about that is Jensen and Janelt. Not a bad £3.5m and £500k. When you think sangare cost £40m and his two colleagues cost £4m combined with over 500 collective games for the club including all our prem seasons. That’s £4k per game each in transfer fees so far. I’m thinking they are looking at Norgaard at Everton thinking “I’ll just stay here”.

Signs we are a big club

Minding my own business on the train to Doncaster watching a Netflix programme called “you don’t know me “

40 mins in To episode 1 there is a sex scene montage interspersed with the guy playing Brentford on fifa !!

Despite what the wokerati said this week it really is full of t@@ts f@@@y and Brentford !!

Just turned on Monday night football they are building up to Villa v Arsenal discussing a table showing that Nicholas Jackson had the second biggest xG underperformance of any player in his two previous season in the PL, 2023-25. Calvert Lewin was highest under performance.
They mentioned in concluding that at least he was getting good xG and Dave Jones adds "Matt Benham will tell you, that's what he wants from a striker...the Brentford supremo... that's how they judge them there and they've not done too badly, have they"

Nice to hear us brought in a positive context in a discussion about a completely different team and player.

Based on the performances so far in the Pl, and having watched quite a few matches on TV,
I would say that there are only 2 teams who will probably be be top 2 this season. - Man City, Arsenal.

As for the rest, if we carry on playing as we are, we can beat any of them.

Therefore, we are quite capable of finishing in the top 4, because we are noticeably better than last season, and everyone else is looking distinctly average.

We are playing like a big club, but it will take some time before anyone else, particularly in the media, dare say that.

Most of the time, you’ll find them making excuses for other clubs when we beat them e.g. Spurs are a new team, it will take them some time to settle.

We will be a big club when Threads like this one are redundant!

I wouldn't even be sure on City...

Checking out of the hotel in Jakarta on Sunday. Porter asks - where are you from? "London". He responds "ah, I am Chelsea fan, are you? "No, we support Brentford". He looks puzzled and says "I don't know why we have so many Brentford fan staying here now"
A hotel porter who supports Chelsea, eh?

He'll be used to carrying baggage round with him, then....
