Yunus Emre Konak (on loan to Lincoln)

A year at a struggling Championship side is a good move for him, I reckon.
They've only played one game and they're already struggling!

If he's as good as people say then perhaps he might divert their already doomed season upwards?

Some very complimentary comments from Chief Keith and PG.

This one in particular:

Phil Giles: “We see [Konak] as a player who can play regularly for Brentford in the future

Hopefully a year of strong development in the Championship and back to BFC for the European campaign next season.
You didn't close the quotation marks but I am assuming the last sentence are your words not PG?!

🤣 they have just lost 2-1 away to Boro who finished 5th last season. Sounds like what established Championship clubs said about us when we were promoted to the Championship, wonder how that worked out 🤔. No not suggesting Lincoln will get to the play offs but I feel they will surprise a few of the established clubs.

Don't think anyone around there would be overly offended if I said that Lincoln is the Championship equivalent to Hull in Premier League this season ... a majority tipping them for last, and practically everyone for relegation

To be fair, he has already proved his quality during his time at Oxford, in a similar low table championship side (as they were then).

Which is why Lincoln can be confident he’ll be invaluable to them

Yunus Emre Konak (on loan to Lincoln)

The important thing about the loan is game time to allow him to develop further.

Top promotion chasing team he may have not been allowed time to develop as they would want instant quality.

At Lincoln he is more likely to get game time and that is the requirement at this stage of his development.

Remember it is in the Championship which we know is a very tough league and hopefully he will come back next season ready to challenge for a place in the Brentford team

Great move for him up here, Lincoln treat their loanees very well and develop them they had Brennan Johnson a few years back Morgan Rogers,Morgan Whittaker,Carl Rushworth etc and they’ve all gone on to better things so it’s a positive move all around, they’ve very shrewd owners and have also spent a fortune on Sincil Bank this summer (some scaffolding is still up) they’ll be hard to beat at home IMO

Yunus Emre Konak (on loan to Lincoln)

After a full season in the Championship he will be more than ready for regular PL minutes. If Jensen doesn't extend, there is an obvious vacancy in the midfield that he could fill, although I don't think he's the exact same role. A full season on loan, a season as a regularly used substitute, and he could be on a similar trajectory as Yarmoliuk.

Would that be the same people that tip us for relegation every season?

Also a beautiful cathedral city which I am sure Yunus will appreciate!

Great opportunity for him. It's a very competitive league and will develop him. It's his range of passing and progression he needs to improve on to step up into the prem

And he will. That's the plan. Yet again great progressive thinking BFC.

Can't believe no one has reacted to the join our European Campaign next season sentence?

You mean my sentence. That I added after the quote from PG?

I'm a bit disappointed about this one, was hoping he get game time in the first team this season.

On the plus side it means Jensen is staying.

And fitness, as he's a bit of a "withdrawn on the hour" type of player. It just takes time for some of them, such as Yarmo, who finally broke into "doing it for the full 90"-level last season

I think that overstates the L1 to Championship gap substantially. In any case being relied on to shore things up at 6 in a weaker team that’s got some spirit and fight about it is a good development opportunity and I am encouraged by the article linked saying they want to develop his attacking/creative game.

Dare I say it but their early approach and highlighting of development areas sounds very Brentford. The contract extension also suggests we’re still seeing a future and value for him. Maybe as Sangare’s or Yarmo’s replacement. Not Jensen’s!

People said the same about Arthur. If you look at our squad, neither was going to get any game time this season barring a very large number of injuries that can't be anticipated.

He’s the first player we’ve loaned to Lincoln City, since.. the last player we loaned them.

…but, who was that?

It was over 25 years ago now.

Back on topic - Good luck, Yunus.

Although their paths probably didn’t cross, he will join Dom Jeffries at Lincoln. Dom was the B team captain before he left the club to pursue a professional career.

There will be lots of excitement around the club as Lincoln were newly promoted to the Championship, so hopefully Yunus will do well and add to the excitement, too.

Was it a player with a double-barrel surname?

Indeed

Our owner is on record as saying that the top of League One is the same quality as the bottom of the Premier League.

As per the above post. You may be correct by saying you think what you think (i.e. you claim what you want). However what you think/claim is manifestly incorrect according to someone whom we both know knows more about this matter than both of us.

So whilst no-one would be offended by what you say, it doesn't mean you are correct. In fact you are wrong by a margin. By the normal definition, Lincoln are as good as Hull.

Arthur wasn't because CB's don't need to be rotated/rested in the same way that CMs do.

Last season we had spells where we only had 3 fit CMs and that probably ended up costing us Europe. It's a difficult balance to strike between player development and success of the team in the present.

That was from a few years ago and I'd not agree with that now (I was sceptical then).

It didn't help they lost their manager in the post season but they absolutely smashed league one last season so I don't see them as automatic relegation certs

In an exceptional year a very strong L1 champion might be close to a poor PL relegated club. But in general id say that's a bit of an exaggeration!

If he's saying that the top six in L1 are at the same level as the bottom six in the PL then I would hsve to respectfully disagree.

Lincoln lost to a 91st minute goal at one of the favourites for promotion. I think they'll be alright. Good experience at a motivated club for Konak.

We need to be patient. It also took him several weeks to become a first pick for Oxford. The season has barely started, one of the two Lincoln central midfielders is the team captain. Injuries and suspensions will come as will Cup games. His chance will come, he’s more than good enough to take it

We want players to have to push to get into the team. It's one reason we don't do 'play time guaranteed' deals.

Assess this loan in October or so. If he still isn't getting many minutes then then it probably won't be too successful.

Actually that's a very good point. For if a loanee knows he's guaranteed minimum playing time, then it can be hard for him to maintain 100% motivation and commitment at all times. While it also has the capacity to piss off his new teammates, making it harder for him to settle in.

Like Nico Yennaris before him, he seems to need a run of matches in order to slowly build himself up to a point where he can play at 100% for an hour and then 90 mins, ie. all the fitness work, reserve team football and sub cameos in the world just doesn't get him to where he needs to be to make an instant impact.
