IIRC abh is fairly serious and the Police and CPS choosing to charge it as such rather than common assault/affray suggests they’re seeing it as a strong case and one with the potential to lead to a sentence on conviction over 12 months. Let’s see how he pleads before speculating.

I wonder why then it takes over 7 months to charge him!. In the current climate you'd have thought that we have a lot more to worry about from the bastards being let out than Ivan thumping someone.

It’s a lot of work either way and it’s probably also not a case with a very high broad public risk.

Or being very cynical, good defence work to push things back so there was no risk that if it ended in a finding of guilt and prison it would make him resident in the UK too soon to get the tax benefit of the Saudi move.

I doubt that he will go to prison for Actual Bodily Harm it is more serious than an aggravated assault, but less than Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH). Then that is speculation I suppose.

Examples of ABH injuries include:

• Bruising
• Scratches
• Bite marks
• Swelling
• Minor fractures
• Tooth loss or chipping

ABH is basically any injury at all (and also includes spurious mental health claims too).

I don’t think it’d be a case of viewing it as serious either. Rather it’s “let a jury decide” because “we’ve got enough proof of WHAT happened” and it’s up to them to decide on whether the provocation (which will no doubt be the defence) was sufficient to excuse his actions.

Probably would normally (assuming injuries minor) but as this has a higher profile the easiest way, for least scrutiny of those in the process, is to let a jury decide

I've got no time for Toney, but am surprised this is getting to court. Incidents like this happen up and down the country every night of the week. The victim may well want their day in court. I am a bit surprised the victim isn't open to settling out of court - likely to make more £££s that way. There is a chance the victim may get nothing.

Toney is a dickhead for even getting himself in this situation.

Googling suggests it's just over 2m, but no matter, the vast majority are expatriate workers, esp Filipinos.

Christians are allowed to practice in private - hard to see how that could be stopped? - but public profession of the faith is banned by law. There are no Church buildings anywhere in the country.

As for Ivan's little gesture, I daresay they'll overlook that, seeing as who he is, in the same way as they (conveniently) overlooked Ronaldo "living in sin" with his g/f before they got married, such co-habitation also being illegal in Saudi.
