Final Score Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

A bit of a reality check, and that's no bad thing perhaps. They should have been 3-0 up at halftime, but having come back so strongly in the second half it's massively disappointing not to win it.

For me it wasn't a penalty,.but it was enough that it was never going to get overturned. Schuster was a positive, and overall I hope this is a reminder we've got to earn it and not believe our own hype.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

1-1 an ok result against a horrible to play and very effective team. Their throwing themselves on the ground and constantly playing the ref highly frustrating - but they were also good outside of that and certainly much better than us in the first half.

I questioned Hickey coming on but he kept them much quieter on their left wing than Kayode managed. Thought he did well.

Anthony didn't add much for me.

Poor performance from the referee.

I was on Anthony's side, thought he was great. Won throw in after throw in

Of course the referee was very poor today with some baffling decisions. But that’s not the reason we didn’t win. Outfought and outplayed in the first half, lucky to go on level. Good subs at HT - Yarmo made all the difference and Anthony offered everything Dango didn’t. Sunderland were a lot better than I expected. A draw seems fair.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Wtf refereeing performance did I just watch? When their player went down, I started laughing it was so bad. And then when I realised the ref gave it, I couldn't stop laughing at the stupidity of the decision. Now I'm just proper fecked off. Referee spoilt the game entirely.
First half we were rubbish.
Second half, much better.
Don't think that ref should ever be allowed to ref games again. I don't care for any opinion that disagrees with me. Watching it live, it was a terrible decision. Amongst many many many awful decisions.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

I thought the second half was so improved vs the first half. KA nailed the subs to get us in the right mindset.

Schuster did very well in his PL debut against an intimidating force in Brobbey.

Our wings just cannot seem to get effective crosses in. Anthony/schade/ and sometimes KLP, just send in lazy balls from very wide.

Damsgaard had a lovely game and showed his old self.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

After the ‘disappointment’ over not getting all 3 against Leeds (hardly a result to be disappointed about of course), I did wonder whether we’d come out slightly jaded and flat. Sunderland are a good side, yes I agree with falling over everywhere, but they are a good side.

Despite an awful first half, we regrouped and we get a point.

Last season we saw so many of these 7-13 placed matches end in draws. After Brighton and Leeds also drew 1-1, will be the same this season too.

We’re still undefeated, Hickey put in a great shift. More important than winning this early one is not losing and we didn’t

Sunderland were a game of two halves. Outplayed and outfought us but that nous and gamesmanship was there. Deserved to be a few up
We upped our game and they had to manipulate fouls and situations to slow the game down. The ref gave them a lot and some weird ones. Apparently there is an on pitch VAR now where if you scream and scream like Violet Bott, you might get a free kick.
Frustrating afternoon but 2nd half their only way back was something like that penalty decision. Especially when you consider the Schade decision last week. The standard of officiating in the biggest league in the world has been embarrassing for far too long.

Agree with all of this. Do think Sunderland defended very well. Not a tremendous amount of space or time for our wingers to operate in, and forcing quite a few half hearted crosses that failed to clear the first defender.

We’re Kayode, Dango and Sangare ill today? They looked well off the pace.

Absolutely credit to them for shutting down our wings, but it felt a bit like insanity - “trying the same thing expecting different results”

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

The first half looked like Sunderland used the game plan of how Leeds stopped us in the 2nd half last week by flooding the midfield. The second half was the reverse of last week though where our changes improved our performance.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Not a great watch a times - thought we were very sloppy from the off. Looked like the players were totally caught off guard by how physical and aggressive Sunderland were from the first minute, and then we didn't really settle for the rest of the half. Several of our lot looked exhausted after the first 25 mins.

Got away with some poor defending with their rightfully disallowed goal, not to mention the move they hit the post with, and then we struggled with composure whilst being out-competed for second balls and duels. Very unlike us but similar to how we ended the Leeds game. Dango the biggest culprit, with Kayode not far behind, and Sangaré being far less effective whilst on a yellow.

Refereeing in the first half was deeply frustrating, giving fouls for the slightest of touches. It shouldn't have come as a surprise that the quality of officiating managed to get even worse in the second half.

Bold but decisive subs from Andrews and half time, and they really worked. Straight away we were more competitive and dynamic, with Yarmoliuk really making an impact.

Not seen a reply of our disallowed goal so can't really comment, but I though their penalty was the correct call. But only as much as a penalty as Schade's one not given last week. Yarmo, Hickey and Schuster all playing very well. 1 goal in 3 games from our front three isn't the best return, but Thiago was up against 3 centre backs today and didn't get an awful lot of help despite working hard.

Probably a fair result.

I agree with nearly all of that except questioning Hickey introduction. Kayode defended v poorly first half with just about every attack coming down that side. When up against a fast tricky opponent he needs to get much closer to his man instead of marking space.

My son’s first Brentford game. Had everything except a red card. Tells me “ok dad guess you can get tickets to the next one” 😬💪

Sunderland fans were in great voice fair play to them

First half we were awful

Second half was even but we played better

A point wasn’t deserved but we take that.

Fair play to Keith for those subs.

Ref was absolutely awful.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Anyone get a view of the incident early in the game where Collins was screaming at ref for a penalty?

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Damsgaard far too lightweight to play against a physical team like Sunderland.
Lewis Potter caught out for pen defending poorly, but otherwise was good.
Ref appalling.
Dango awful.
Anthony very good.
Tiago works so hard.
I would also add Kayode standing so far away from the Sunderland no. 10 in the first half it looked as though he’d thought f**k that he’s too good for me let him have it somebody else can deal with him.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Prob a fair result but the first half was dire! Nothing clicked. Sunderland looked good down our right and should have been away by half time. We were better in second half but didn’t do enough to win imo. Was Sangare injured or taken off to avoid a red. Ref awful and Sunderland diving a laugh. Feels like it’s a bit back to reality and Collins going off a big loss.Still - 35 points to safety!!!🤪

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

A barely deserved point in the end, even though it's annoying losing a lead late on, and even more so when it's a penalty.

We wont be at our best every week, but hopefully we can bounce back at Bournemouth who we seem to enjoy playing!

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Frustrating game. Second best by miles in the first half probably lucky to be in level. Not sure about the pen looked very soft. Lots of players off the boil today. They looked quite impressive tbf. Point probably fair

Personally, I thought it was a penalty.

You don’t always “deserve” to win but sometimes you make it happen, with a stronger ref today I think we get 3 points.

Did we “ deserve” to go in at half time 0-0?
You said it yourself. 'You make it happen.' We didn't make much happen. Sunderland created more chances. More shots, more shots on target and better xG. The ref is not the reason we failed to win. Lots of falling about, yes, but the big calls were correct.

People really need to get over blaming refs when it doesn't go our way. It's like cry wolf - one time when a really awful performance costs us points, criticism is worthless, because we hear it all the time.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Seen a replay of the pen, can’t complain, I’d want a pen for it.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Good subs at half time changed our fortunes. Kayode gave their dangerous Nbr 10 far far to much space and Sangaré wasn't as cohesive this week. Yarmo stiffened the midfield and we stopped giving the ball away so much. Dango was rightly subbed as he was drifting inside too often and not strong enough in the challenge. Schuster was mature beyond his years and played his part brilliantly in a tough tough situation. KLP has given away similar penalties before if I recall and it makes it an easier decision for the referee (who was abysmal btw). He has to stop holding players in the box.
All in all a point is well earned against a physical and well drilled side away from home. I don't like their gamesmanship but it was effective from their point of view. We really needed a better referee who had a torrid time and both sets of supporters feel hard done by - a sure sign of weakness

Totally agree. I was too far away to judge it at the time but KLP is holding onto their player without even looking at the ball. He got away with exactly the same thing in one game last season when PGMOL highlighted it as a referee mistake. You just can't defend like that and I'm afraid that, despite all the great things he does, it's a consequence of the fact that he's not a natural defender.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

No argument they were better than us first half and we were fortunate to go in 0-0. Quicker, stronger, slicker all over the pitch. Appears no one scares us as much as Mr Brobbey. Struggled to handle him, again. He gave Igor a lesson in hold up play.

Correct subs at half time. Can only imagine MK had a sleepless night last night with the newborn because he was all over the place.

2nd half better and we competed as we should. Just felt we never really got to grips with things or had any control. Credit to them, they’re a decent side well coached.

The ref was out of his depth. As soon as he and VAR took 8 mins to decide their goal was offside you knew it was going to be one of those afternoons. Only surprise was no red card. They certainly played the ref better than we did.

Take the point and move on.

Finally I thought YS was great when he came on. Handled their forward players better than Ajer did.

Our game is built on chaos, constantly knocking on the door with support and pressure, winning 50/50s and continuing our attacks over and over we were not allowed to do that today the ref broke up every turnover with a foul.

It's not the reason I agree but when you are trying to get control of a game and every small decision is given as a foul, it plays into the other teams hands.

Don't agree about Anthony - thought he was a big improvement. Dango looked like his head wasn't right at all, and thought we massively improved when Jaiden came on.

... today wasnt about the ref...blame blame blame....sad...we simply weren't good enough to beat this Sunderland side....who really should have won this game...i really dislike victim mentality.
The referee kept blowing up for fouls that didn't exist. That's a fact. And didn't help us in the second half at all.
I'd say a draw was a fair result, but I do think the referee was well out of his depth and it affected the game.
I still don't think it was a pen too. If I'm wrong, fair enough. Overall, second half, i do think that we were largely the better side. First half though.....🙄
