But our £100m spend on transfers was offset by our huge profit last season...We made £60m+ in profit last season...

Over the past 5 seasons, we're something like 13th biggest net spenders. And Sunderland or Ipswich are incredibly close to us despite having only 2 seasons in the Prem...

The £100m figure looks insane, it does, but it's not because we're spending more than everyone else, it's because EVERYONE has loads of money.

And on the individual transfers...we're a lot more targeted than the likes of Forest, we spend £40m on 3 players rather than £20m on 6, and that has a huge impact on squad cost, as that £120m outlay will cost us far less in wages.

I have a lot of football friends and colleagues who love watching Brentford play. I know I am biased but I think the way we play is entertaining. Long may it continue. There are many ways to play football. I don't listen to Andy Jacobs as he so boring and I turn off if Rory Jennings is on as he is irritating.

Bizarre. The siege mentality is all encompassing.
People say "aren't the 3 B's doing well" and the reaction is "you should be talking about Newcastle and Aston Villa instead". You get more sense out of the callers on 606.

The headline is nonsense out of context. It's a line from the article and it transpires that "those clubs" are actually the top 5.
I assume the reference to us "giving the biggest clubs the ability to destroy our game" is based on us having backed spending restrictions or other voting with the big clubs... You sometimes see these fans referring to us as "bootlickers".

I think you've hit the nail on the head - everyone has loads of money. Because of TV. That diminishes the relative advantage that some other "bigger" clubs used to enjoy. We're way behind on gate receipts and commercial income but we're buoyed by TV money. As are clubs like Bournemouth who the media experts also think are "over performing".

Provided you use the money smartly (as we generally do) it enables small clubs to be middleweights. In the world of TV money it's almost inevitable. Couple that with good control over the wage bill (,unlike everton and forest) and we can be surprisingly competitive on transfers.

But the "experts" don't understand and think "little Brentford," are over-,performing and that our bubble will burst. They don't get it though I suppose if you're used to thinking of clubs like Everton as big and Brentford as small then it might take a bit of getting used to!

Exactly. I still read the odd person that supports another club ask "how do they compete with such a small stadium" it's been this way for many years now. Even before we were in the PL we were "funded by PL money" because that's who was buying our good players. If there were spending restrictions AND it were all about matchday income none of the 3 Bs would ever have made it to the PL.

The complaints are incoherent. There is a fair argument to be had about the current spending rules but this person is not capable. The truth is the rules are harsher on us than anyone because our revenues are small and that is why we have had to be clever. Newcastle's problem is not that they're a big team it's that they aren't big enough. If they generated revenues to match the big six then they wouldn't have a problem. Instead they need the Saudis to funnel in endless money; but it is not obvious why allowing them to do this would be a victory for fairness and accountability.

It’s an old trick of bellsniffs like this plum and Jennings to wail about “proper clubs” not being in the prem whilst the likes of Wednesday, Charlton, Blackburn etc languish elsewhere at the expense of us, Brighton etc.

You can bet your life though that when they were in it they were getting slagged off for taking up space from others. A few have been frothing at Cov coming back, when all they did for about 30 years, 1 Cup win aside, was scrape staying up year after year.

I think “proper clubs” need be defined as those with something clear definition about financial management. The tightening financial operating rules are making things more difficult for madcap owners to spray money around like drunks coming out of a betting shop after a flukey payout.

I just love how fans of #teamslikenewcastle have morphed from giving #teamslikebrentford condescending pats on the head when we were intitially ruffling some of the big boys feathers, to being genuinely worried that we've become a proper threat now, and are "spoiling" things for them!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣

(One thing that did surprise me a bit, was how little opposition there was to his views from other fans of Newcastle. Thought there might be a few intelligent/fair minded ones out there. Clearly I overestimated the fan base!!!)

Seen other commenting on it (coming from big6 fans), suggesting that the difference is that the B's have a much better record at actually fighting the big6 teams, whereas Palace have at times all but rolled over to get their tummy tickled
