I ask myself the same question. He will often stand over the ball with another player, but not take the kick. It really infuriates me. We need to exploit every bit of talent we have. A goal like that can make a big difference.

I assume the involved players agree before each kick who they think is going to have the best chance. You often see Lewis-Potter in with a shout and Jensen will be back soon, too. They must practice in training, so see each other's attempts.

Surely the biggest consideration is whereabouts on the pitch it is??

Would help his chances a lot if he actually got to take most of them. I assume when they practice in training KLP is (somehow) more accurate and therefore gets given them instead, although of course whatever KLP must show in training is yet to translate to the pitch when it comes to set pieces.

He’s had a few of the free kicks in the past but not all and been waiting for a screamer for ages (with memories of his one against England).
Been ages since we scored a “classic” free kick goal. Jensen and Toney had a couple of cheeky efforts…and if AI is to be believed the previous 3 direct free kick goals were as far back as Marcondes in 2020, Benrahma in 2018, and Pritchard in 2014/15.
If AI hasn’t ballsed up as usual that’s a pretty tiny volume of direct free kick goals!

Alan Judge’s free kick at Arsenal in the Carabao Cup was a bit special.

Indeed, you'd expect that to be saved more often than not.

KLP has not been very close at all- a couple clipped the bar and otherwise quite inaccurate.

Pretty sure that this is the answer, goals direct from freekicks are relatively rare and more often than not miss or just get saved easily.
