Undefeated Brentford who are currently top of the Premier Division and the through to the third Qualifying round of the Women’s FA Cup, return to the Gtech this Sunday and will deservedly play in front of another large four figured crowd.
With there being no men’s football this weekend due to the International Break, Brentford Women will have silent hopes of breaking the attendance record for a Teir 5 match after setting the Teir 6 record attendance of 5,116 with a noisy and passionate crowd when they played Watford Development.
The Bees have started the season very brightly with four wins and a draw in the Premier League and progress through to the third Qualifying round of the Women’s FA Cup after last Sunday’s 4-0 away win at Dorking Wanderers and visitors Newhaven, have won all four of their games on the road this season, conceding just the one goal in the process.
Playing a very attacking 3-5-2 / 3-4-1-2 formation the Bees are quick in transition and the front two of Wiktoria (pronounced Victoria) Kiszkis and stalwart Ashley Cheatley have been on fire leading the Premier Division’s Golden Boot race.
With Bromley who are level on points, but second in the table on goal difference, away to third placed Barking the Bees will be determined to win at home against fourth placed Newhaven to maintain their position at the top of the league and the Club’s march towards promotion to the Women’s National League, after they just missed out last season.
The Visitors – Newhaven
Newhaven FC being founded in the late 1880s by a family of brewers are one of the oldest clubs in Sussex.
They are nicknamed the Dockers to reflect the importance of the town as a s seaport.
Newhaven Women’s team were promoted to the Premier Division a year ahead of the Bees, after winning Division One North title at the end of the 23/24 season.
In their first season at this level, they finished mid table with an 8th place finish and 12 points clear of the relegation places.
Newhaven struggled to maintain that form last season and finished just above the relegation places and 15 points behind Ashford Town above them.
They were probably considered by many to be favourites for the drop this season but after a magnificent pre-season where they won all six of their pre-season friendlies they have started this season with renewed optimism.
Last time out, the Dockers progressed to the 3rd Qualifying Round of the Women’s FA Cup with a good 0 - 2 win at Herne Bay.
In the league. Newhaven have yet to drop a point on their travels, matching Brentford 0 - 4 Cup win at Dorking, by winning by the same score in their league match, winning 0 – 3 at Aylesford and only conceding the one goal on their travels which came in their 1 – 4 win at Ashford Town
The Dockers are yet to win at home in the league, drawing their last home game 1 – 1 with neighbours Worthing who were relegated from the Women’s National League at the end of last season and to their only defeat this season, a 1 -2 loss at home to third placed Barking.
