Imagine a scenario where a 50 point penalty is given, so City are 37 adrift at the foot of the table. Haaland gets a hat trick. Is he even celebrating any of those goals in any meaningful way. Quite sad really.

And when I say sad. I mean absolutely hilarious

Also big test of character for those London kids who jumped on that bandwagon and now find themselves checking the results in League One. Fair play to them.

That will be character building and teach them a lot about resilience and adversity

You seriously believe they wouldn't just start following flavour-of-the-month, that are still sufficiently counter-cultural against their local environment to be different than every other in their neighbourhood?

That’s exactly what will happen. I was being sarcastic

A lot for the PL to consider now, are they torpedoing their own competition , will tv rights be affected now especially abroad , are they going to damage the UK trade deal business with the UAE . Possibly a lot more to lose then gain in all this imo

You’re not wrong but some tough decisions need to be taken to retain any sense of integrity and credibility.

Plus this is where state ownership of a club compromises the sporting element

Integrity and credibility unfortunately went years ago in high level football .
This just makes me very sad at the turmoil, money chasing and revenge that will totally distort the EPL.
One thing did occur to me , do relegated clubs now go to court to be reinstated?

Manchester City Found Guilty Of FFP Breaches

I think there'll be a lot more to run in this. Once a decision by the independent panel is announced, City will appeal and it'll probably end up at the CAS.

More likely they’ll sue for losses (much like Burnley sued Everton) but it’s the clubs at the top end of the league who you would think will have the stronger case as it’s not like City would’ve been in a relegation battle even without the cheating.

.... that's perhaps exactly why the EPL and Citeh will come to an agreement/deal that suits both parties....the EPL is a business and city are one of their 'top six' assets....jeez the EPL were in an absolute panic about the possibility of THFC being relegated last season..... I'm guessing also that the EPL would quite like the other top clubs to keep quiet regarding the city situation.

I'm already getting sick of fans of the other clubs in the Mafia Six getting on their high horses about this.
... I'm the opposite mate....I find their victim mentality rather amusing... but then I love irony.

I know it was a different jurisdiction but weren't Rangers thrown into non league up in Scotland and had to spend 4 or 5 years working their way back up? How about City into National League North? Just an idea.
Don’t want them in Harborough Town league thanks!

How much bottle does the EPL have ?? Retrospective Acton regarding titles opens a massive can of worms with other clubs moving up a place in the league and therefore entitled to more funds: equally any club relegated will want compensation as will their players. Presumably those clubs that benefited from transfer income from City will also face some redress

The Lawyers will be creaming themselves at the potentials here and I doubt the EPL will want to let the legal dogs lose as the additional damage it will do to their “ product” is incalculable and I have no doubt if anything goes to Court City will try and get everyone investigated

I reckon City will be looking at a massive fine and a transfer embargo. There will be a substantial points deduction but this will be delayed based on their activity going forward and I imagine this story will continue for a while yet
I worked in Retrospective Acton.😁

Manchester City Found Guilty Of FFP Breaches

City deserve a 114 point deduction. One point lost for every breach, relegation to the National League North, plus stripped of European qualification this season, which means we could replace them, and also have a very good chance of fighting for the PL top spot!

What’s not to like!
Future loss of TV revenue if the "product" becomes less valuable without city? Our implied share of the legal costs? Lots of other factors which only now are being realised. For example a lot of clubs might seek to litigate City for compensation. The consequences of this fiasco could be far reaching. I cant see it benefitting anyone except lawyers of course.

That said, it is hard to see the point of pursuing this case for eight years if extremely severe sanctions aren't to be applied.

Once we get past the schadenfreude people will slowly wake up to the reality you describe.

Their are a 115 reasons why city are one of their top six assets.

About a couple of million pounds per position up the table in the PL isnt it though??
Lots of potential there for lots of clubs to claim they would have finished higher, over a few seasons too, had City not cheated.....

I have so many questions.
Was City reporting wages to the treasury in the same manner they were reporting it to the Premier League? If so, how is it legal to underpay in the UK and subsidize an employee in another taxing jurisdiction. Why would you not be obligated to report money paid to an agent?
City was inflating their profitability to avoid EPL profit and loss rules. Were they using these same profit and loss reports to obtain financing, insurance, or as due diligence for any other contract. If so that's criminal fraud.
I think I could do this for a while, but why doesn't all this subject the people running the club to criminal prosecution.
Fully agree.
I’d keep separate sporting on the pitch “cheating” separate from Fraud.

Players in all clubs “cheat” every week. Hence yellow and red cards.

Be interesting to see if they have used their data to the premier league to submit to HMRC and other contracts.

If they don’t deal with it harshly there will be a mutiny all down the pyramid.

I don't think it's possible to overestimate the scale and potential fall out from this mess, no wonder they took so long in announcing anything.....

If I’ve read it correctly these charges go back as far as 2013. This was going on right through his leadership. He might be wrong if he thought walking away at the end of last season would magically decouple himself from all this.
Does he have a dog / bank account in Monaco called "Rosa cuarenta y siete"?

Manchester City Found Guilty Of FFP Breaches

When you're found guilty of 114/115 charges and it's taken almost 4 years, you can bet those that made the decision are damn sure, as they know what the fallout will be.

I'd say it's almost pointless City appealing their guilt - they are better saving their effort and money for appealing whatever sanction they get.

It needs to be severe. And I hope any appeal is dismissed quickly.

Manchester City Found Guilty Of FFP Breaches

Reckon a 50 point deduction to start with, then another 25 after that followed by another 25. Just to cap it off with a 250mill fine.

Manchester City Found Guilty Of FFP Breaches

On the basis that revoking previously "won" titles isn't on the table, I'd imagine it will go something like this:
  • An x point deduction that creates a jeopardy for TV whether they'll stay up or not (but insufficient to guarantee they drop).
  • An x season transfer embargo to be applied from the end of the January window (giving them enough time to stock up and tie up existing contract extensions).
  • An x million fine which will pay the PL legal fees with the remainder being used as a fixed pot for clubs wanting to sue (meaning current PL clubs have a disincentive to sue since they no longer have to contribute to the PL fees plus a finite pot for all clubs to fight for (legal costs vs potential reward).
  • An x million payment to "voluntarily" support a grass roots campaign if they don't appeal the decision (to make Citeh look truly repentant).
As much as I'd like their local derby to be against Stalybridge Celtic, I can't see it happening.

Manchester City Found Guilty Of FFP Breaches

If the consequence of a sporting sanction ends with City not being relegated then it has failed as a sanction.

Not going to disagree with that. However, the PL is a business and, whether we like it or not, decisions made will not be made with sporting integrity at the forefront.

.... they've been stockpiling reserves for a while now...that.... and they also have a certain EH....gold aplenty in their vault... whatever happens... and your appraisal might actually be close to the mark...I really don't think MCFC will go under somehow....a deal will be done.

Yep they'll accept a certain relegation this season and will win the champ with 120 points next

I wonder if any other clubs will be getting twitchy about these charges.

The Premier League has always looked more like show business than sport to me. Now it is starting to look like pantomime.

I went to see a league 2 game this afternoon. I haven't enjoyed a match so much for a long time. No VAR, lots of good honest endeavour and a few moments of real skill. Lots of penalty area thrills and spills. The supporters were great, humorous, realistic and non,-entitled. In short it was a very enjoyable sporting event in good company.

Do I wish Brentford were still at that level? No not really. At least not yet. But it was a timely reminder that football can and should be sport.

I get the point you’re making but I remember losing at home within the space of days to Morecambe and Grimsby in front of around 3k just as vividly as I do the smile I had on my face all last weekend, so I’d rather not…

Exactly. I've been going to Brentford for 759 years (give or take) and every season for the last 5 has been the best I've experienced. Long may it continue. Playing in league 2 and watching some of the sh*te players we scraped together to put out an XI was almost without fail, rubbish. I was one of the 3k btw.

Not enjoyed a game as much since last Friday?
Couldnt get a ticket.so I wasn't there and can't comment.

But yes the PL is a different experience. It's infinitely better quality, played in magnificent stadia on billiard table pitches. And I'm not complaining. But there is something I miss - a genuine sporting encounter. The PL is essentially rigged with the elite clubs having so much money and power that most of the time nobody else stands a chance. Of course it's great when we knock one the big boys off their perch - the thrill of it all the more vivid because the odds are so stacked in their favour.

I'm not saying I want us to go back to the fourth division but I do need to go back to watch grass roots football every so often. It's a lot of fun, a different sort of fun maybe, but it feels more like real sport and less like show business.

The Championship was a lot of fun though!

I beat you having been going 989 years and was also part of those 2 crowds. Got to agree with you the last 5 years have been the best. But I've always enjoyed it never mind the level. Chance to meet mates for a couple of beers and have 3 or 4 hours of me time away from the rigours of life.

Be interesting how many or any of these new players have clauses built into their contracts for relegation etc. be folly of the agent if they haven't
