Mads Bidstrup's father mentioned a serious knee injury suffered by his son when he was playing for Brentford, during a report by FC Red Bull Salzburg.

This information naturally raises questions given the current situation of the Lyonnais midfielder.

Since the training camp in Germany, Bidstrup has been sidelined from the pitch, and Paulo Fonseca only indicated that he was suffering from a cartilage problem in his knee, without further details during the pre-match press conference for Sparta Prague vs OL.

To date, no public information allows us to know if it's the same knee, nor if this current injury could be linked to the one known from Brentford.

Simple coincidence or possible old fragility in the same knee?

If the second option turns out to be the right one, then we will have to question the quality of the medical examination prior to Bidstrup's signing, which revealed nothing.

In the meantime, we are all in uncertainty regarding Mads Bidstrup's near future with us.

Reads like they need some better doctors doing their medicals! Mads isn’t likely to volunteer that he’s impressed them, despite playing on one leg…

Not saying he is better than what we have, but is Mads B one of, if not the only ex player that could be seen as “one that got away?” Fair play to him, he’s gone on and carved out a top career. Whereas the general rule is players that leave tend to have had their best spell with us.

I appreciate that I don’t think it was a case that we didn’t rate him, but rather is he unique that he’s gone on to do more than perhaps would have been expected?

He's been a slow burner but made a decent career so far as a footballer. We probably wanted to keep him but there really was no space at the time and he wanted first-team football.

That's true, although we've now released or transferred a number of young players from our development who've appeared in the first team squad, so there's probably more to come.

It’s sliding doors innit ? At the time he wasn’t ready and there wasn’t an obvious path to fit him. Cest la vie. For every Bidstrup there’s twenty Hippolytes.

I think if he hadn't got seriously injured right after we signed him in 2020 then we wouldn't have moved for Janelt and he would have got quite a lot of game time given Norgaard's fitness issues.
