There were 3 dads in front of me with their very young daughters that must have done 3 pints each, each half.
Up and down like a whore’s draws.

I thought it was great all round to be honest.
Lots of very nice kids having a great family afternoon out.
Nice to be reminded that there are still some good parents and nice, well behaved kids around.
I couldn’t even be grumpy with the one who kicked the back my seat repeatedly for 90 minutes.
Proper heartwarming.

Epic game. Well done the Queen Bees. Additional bonus was seeing my son and his friend on the big screen at half time, them winning a Superstore voucher and the two of them scoring a glove each from Mya Francis-Pownall after the game. What a brilliant day out and what a brilliant result!! COYB!!!

Know what you mean, but we had the competitive game last year against Saltdean, we lost and it deflated our whole season.

Didn’t expect Newhaven to capitulate as much as they did. Thought it would have been tighter, but oh well. Will take the 3-points, how ever they come.

Newhaven position is probably a little false, as they have 7 points…. Two wins against Dorking & Ashford and a draw against Worthing…. Who before today were the bottom 3 sides of the league. Today’s results have changed all that.
But I still expect them to be mid-table come the end of the season.

When I put together my expected line-up in the match preview thread, I was a little hesitant as we have had so many changes in the opening weeks of the season, that I wasn’t sure if my Best XI would marry-up with Carly’s.

So I was pleased to see I was pretty much on point. More pleasing was to see what this lineup could actually achieve.

Whether Newhaven were slightly overawed by the occasion, or whether we were just ruthless. It felt like all the players knew their position and were linking together really well.

At times in the first half, it felt like we would score with every attack. It’s not unfair to suggest that the Newhaven keeper was their best player.

Ashley Cheatley gets 4, Wiktoria Kiszkis bags 2; to show what a potent combo they are up front. Mille Constantine scored to continue her rich vein of form. Then Makeba Black found herself in space in the opponents penalty box to grab a goal, and nearly grabbed a second with an inspired run. She must have had a nosebleed from being that far up the pitch.

If somebody deserved a goal, it was Maddie Philips. She rattled the post with a shot that might still be vibrating now, and a powerful run into the Newhaven half that set up our best goal of the day.

Today is a day about celebrating, so I won’t dwell on the negatives, but our defence needed to tighten up at times today. Another more potent team might have made us pay. But when you are banging in as a many goals as we have, it doesn’t really matter.

Back to the FA Cup again next week, I imagine the crowd will be rather more modest away at Worthing next week. But I hope everyone who turned out today enjoyed seeing what the Brentford women are all about and hopefully will see you again at another game real soon.IMG_1004.jpeg

I don’t watch the women’s team too often, been to all the Gtech matches but only a couple of games over the years outside of that.

My observations on Brentford today:
- (Not sure how much down to the difference in quality of opposition as Saltdean looked good) Much more fluid, connected and purposeful going forwards vs last year with some lovely passages of play
- Cheatley is a class above, her first touch when out through in goal was excellent and finishing to match
- Looks like a blossoming relationship between Cheatley and Kiszkis with some lovely interchanges
- We’ve got some really direct wide players (full backs and ‘wingers’) with pace, trickery and determination… really liked the the look of Constantine and think Sangha will be a player just needs a bit more experience and composure
- Keeper very quick to get the game started again and made some really good rolls and throws out today to start promising attacks. Although she didn’t have much else to do (bar one ‘for the cameras’ save from a free kick) so was a little worried about an occasion in the first half when an innocuous falling ball, with no one around her, and she missed it completely as it bounced in the box. But hoping was just ‘big game nerves’ of playing in the Gtech as caught similar balls with ease throughout
- Not much else to say on our defence as they didn’t have a huge amount to do although were caught napping once or twice… at 6 or 7 up at the time it’s hard to blame them
- Final observation is on Maddie Phillips. I’ve been impressed when watched her before but I think she’s got even better. She is a fantastic footballer to watch and my favourite type of player… can thread a through ball through the eye of a needle and weight it correctly, has excellent vision and seems to pick the right option, has a burst of pace over 5 yard that takes her past players, seems to be able to bounce players off her shoulder, dangerous from 25 yards, and didn’t lose a 50/50 all afternoon.

Special mention for the Newhaven keeper who I thought was excellent and suspect it may only be the fact she isn’t a few inches taller preventing her from playing higher up the pyramid (based on knowing nothing about her and having seen her play once of course).

My 7 year old daughter and I both had a great afternoon, she’s told me (and her mum, sister and grandparents) multiple times that she got 15 high fives from different players, asked if she could play for Brentford one day, asked when we can go again and been told off multiple times by her mum for singing ‘youuuu rrreedddsss’ in bed this evening whilst her sister is trying to go to sleep in the bunk bed below her!

Apologies for a far longer post than planned but still lying here with a very warm feeling after the whole day.

At a Buzzing Gtech, Brentford swarmed forward with confidence, belief and flair to sting Newhaven with eight goals and to go two points clear at the top of the Premier Division table.

As a new generation of Bees where being born in the stands and making themselves heard with their constant chanting as the Bees players performed sublimely and confidently to record their biggest win of the season.

Newhaven who had not lost on their travels this season, had only conceded one goal on the road and just seven goals in total, prior to the game, gave their all but were carved apart by the Bees attacking flair.

If the Bees had any nerves settling on the big stage they put to bed in the opening minutes when Asheley Cheateley’s saved shot fell to Wiktoria Kiszkis who gave the Bees a lead.

Ashley Cheatley mad it two nil from a Maddie Phillips assist.

Abbi Smith had a good chance to make it three but headed just wide and Harriet Hiu Ching Kwok in the Newhaven goal was in blinding form to keep the score down.

A beautiful Maddie Phillips run provided the perfect assist for Ashley Cheatley to get her brace.

Millie Constantine made it four from the Bees after being set up by Rebecca Teale who was a real live wire for the Bees down the right wing.

Makeba Black made it five turning on a sixpence in the box to slot the ball home from a Brentford corner.

Newhaven started the second half a lot more brightly and caught the Brentford defence asleep a few times and took some last ditch tackles from the Bees to maintain the clean sheet.

When a Newhaven freekick was sent over the Brentford wall, Saskia Reeves-Priestley dived at full stretch to spectacularly stop the shot going into the top right-hand corner by tipping it around the post.

Nine minutes into the second half Asheley Cheatley secured her hatrick with a superb volley from former Welsh International, Rhian Cleverly’s cross.

Two minutes later Ashely scored her fourth of the afternoon from a Rebecca Teals cross after some very slick build up play.

Ashely Cheatley added an Assist to her star performance when playing a neat one-two with Wiktoria Kiszkis who on receiving the ball back slotted home from a very acute angle.

With Bromley drawing 2 – 2 with third placed Barking, the Bees moved two points clear at the top of the table.

Hopefully the Bees players will be rewarded by many of the impressive 3,270 crowd trekking out to see Brentford Women again at the aptly named Honeycroft stadium to see more of the skilful flair on display and to enjoy the excellent facilities.
