Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

I was thinking 100 points and £500m fine.
I now can’t see how anything lesss than the total cheating plus total prize money would be accepted as a fine. That would be £1.5bn.
Then there are claims by 3rd parties.
Then the issue of player contracts.

Coukd they end up having more debts than assets if suspended from the league without revenues?
Could be a situation where they can’t meet FFP etc at all.

Fine, suspension, start again in the lower leagues seems fair.

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

All record books to show that between 2010 and 2019 there were no titles awarded because “Manchester City cheated”

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

They're going to have a huge reputational scar, one which will take a long time to heal. They will forever be known as "the club that cheated". If I were a City fan I'd be sickened and might even give up my support. Supporters of other clubs won't be shy in reminding them at every game they play

That scar might be a longer lasting punishment than the ones discussed here. They can pay a big fine and forget about it but the humiliation and shame is a permanent stain.

What if ........ they decide to resign/got sacked from the PL and make an attempt at setting up another super league globally or join another league elsewhere in the world. It would get them out of the way and make them a PL non-entity. Obviously money is no object to them. It would be very unfair to other clubs to dump them in their present form on the EFL, whatever other sanctions were also imposed.
They have won things in the last few years, but there non presence on the world stage would not be missed.
City are not in the same league as Liverpool,United,Arsenal Rangers,Celtic,Real Madrid,Barcelona,Benfica,Bayern Munich when it comes to world status and fan base.
Ardwick FC are not that as big as they want to be.
This is where their cycle ends.

Plus they are tainted.
Would you put Ben Johnson in the Olympic Hall of Fame ?
City are in that league now.

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

Surely it should be huge fine, transfer ban, AND points deduction...

Something like £890m fine, 5 window transfer ban, and a 75 point deduction.

And that £890m should go to the other 91 clubs, £9.78m would make a huge difference to most football league clubs. Even better, it should go to all clubs outside the EPL, which would be 72 clubs, so £12.36m each! And leave the PL clubs to look for legal recompense from City on their own, a la Burnley. £40m per club should equate to another nice £760m. See how Abu Dhabi like that! And they need to pay all PL legal costs.
If you go this route, they will simply fold the company 'Man City' and start as a phoenix club.

I want them heavily punished, league and financially. But you have to leave some hope for them that they will recover otherwise they will just fold up the company, leaving the fines unoaid.

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

Harshest possible. They have treated the sport and other clubs with utter contempt. Nuke em

Oh wait, yeah, I forgot something important you reminded me of...

We have a fit and proper owners test. They fail it. Banned from owning any football club in England ever again.

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

I'd like to see the owners approved status revoked and they forced to sell.
Also 25 points deduction for the next 5 seasons they are in the premier league
Plus transfer ban for 4 windows

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

Just read the Beebs synopsis of what they have actually done.
I didn't realise just how utterly corrupt it is.
Listened to Lisa Nandy last night and she gave the impression that she expects the PL to impose a severe punishment.
I think they're well and truly f***** !
Shame🤣🤣

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

Went for Combo of massive fine and a relegation.

What's the odds that as oodles of cash got them into this mess, that oodles of cash will get them out of it?
🤷‍♂️

If these people are seen as "fit and proper" then there is truly no hope. I don't know what more you would have to do to fail.

Unless their sponsorship revenue suddenly fell off a cliff in 2019, which it didn’t, they have clearly continued this cheating up to the present day. And given their disgraceful behaviour it’s highly likely they’ll continue cheating moving forwards, they’ll just get better at covering it up. So I’d say:

Down to L2 starting on -50 points,

3-5 year transfer embargo,

All titles removed,

Massive fine,

Owners forced to sell and banned from future ownership.

I don't agree with removing the titles part. Rightly or wrong that happened and the history books should reflect so. Plus, it puts others into difficult positions that if they have anything about them will not want to accept.

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

Took Rangers 4 years to get back into the SPL - I’d hope for a similar “Journey” back up the football leagues, alongside a huge fine and the owners having to exit in an orderly (whatever that means given the backdrop) fashion.

Do you think Lance Armstrong should have kept his titles?

Don't know anything about the situation? Was he stripped of them? Was the next person awarded them?

I can get behind this in a solo sport as there are not so many variables.

He was stripped of them and they were not awarded to anyone else. TdF shows no winner for those years.

Oh ok. Were they offered to the Runners Up and they didn't want them?

As a statto that makes me uncomfortable, I'd prefer a winner be listed and shown as disqualified. The event of him winning it still happened in time and space.

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

Expulsion from the Premier League for 3 years, from European comps for 5 years.

Up to the FL what they do with them, they can win the championship for 2 years in a row and it means nothing then happy days.

A lot of them were all doping too, or suspected of it so they just left it blank.

...you might not be far off the mark with this... but if they do end up in T4 I don't think they'll start with -50....iirc when Rangers were demoted they started again under different ownership/company on Zero points in T4 in Scotland...I now firmly believe this is where MCFC are heading...it was a bizarre few years...and I visited a couple of grounds that I had been to over 40years ago... when Scottish football had a 2 Tier set up....I have no doubt MCFC will plough through the leagues back to the top Tier one day,as Rangers did....Rangers and it's supporters excepted their punishment....MCFC and all those associated with the club I suggest do so to.... the sooner it happens the better... for the greater good of football....no more sideshows.

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

The thing is...strip City of their stars and they have an insane academy...so would it not be hugely beneficial for English football to simply hit them with ONE points deduction to ensure relegation, plus a 5 window/3 year transfer ban and a ban for their owners? (plus the fine, of course). That way all/most of the big players will leave and will be replaced by the kids from the academy, benefitting the England team.

I'd want a way to ensure their insane youth system is retained for the benefit of the game.

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

30 points deducted straight away.No point taking away previous title or cup wins as who cares about the past.Fine in relation to over spending

The only reason inter were retrospectively given the serie A title when Juventus were stripped was for the purposes of CL entry. If man city are stripped it should stay as no winner

Anyhow I don't think that should happen as prefer a going fwd punishment so 40 points now, 3-4 year transfer ban and £100m fine plus all PL costs

Abu Dhabi owners banned

I don't think finishing about 13th would be an adequate punishment for 10 years worth of cheating.

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

My only issue with multiple relegations is that although I'd love to see them demoted way down the pyramid to the national league or beyond it causes another problem.

They will be so overpowered that every season, the league they are in will effectively have one less promotion place available which is extremely unfair to everyone else.

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

Although a transfer embargo will no doubt be part of any punishment served.... let's not forget MCFC have been stockpiling young players recently because imo they knew what was coming... anyone who thinks merely a points deduction resulting in them playing in T2 next season is either a MCFC supporter...or someone who really doesn't understand just how much damage has been caused by MCFCs actions with regards to the integrity of football as a sport....the football authorities really need to send a message here....MCFC should start again... from the bottom....you do the crime....you do the time.

Though everyone would like to see the heaviest punishment the owners are not any Joe Soap but a state that have large investments in the UK which could bring serious pressure on this country so I doubt we will be satisfied with the outcome.

I wonder what happens if they win their appeal?
How would they win an appeal? So how likely is it that the independent panel blundered in law or procedure on every one of over 100 charges?

Well presumably they present this irrefutable evidence, that hasn't been irrefutable so far.

This would be a ludicrously lenient punishment. So they basically finish mid table and miss out on Europe for one season. Great encouragement for every big club to do industrial scale cheating for almost a decade.

All concerned are trying to work out how to slap them on the wrist, but without breaking the skin.

Ummmmm How have they paid for this insane youth system.

Built on corruption.

But this also highlights how wrong it all is.

We can do what we want because we are so invested in your politics etc.

Whole thing stinks.

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

The past championships need to be stripped from them.

There is a point to it.

If that isnt done then again it shows how wrong it all is.

Regardless of maybe how pointless it is because of memories etc.

.... geopolitics eh.... perhaps MCFC could actually declare itself a state within a state....meh... doesn't really have to...it already is.... nothing to see here... carry on as you are MCFC👍

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

How about a 300 point fine, starting now.
So they're on -285, the rest of the points they make this season still count. Say for example they finish on -220 points.
Relegated, but when they get promoted they start on -220 points and so on.
:)

Sadistic, but i like it.

Partly because the 2nd and 3rd placed riders, in some cases form his own team, were also dopers

Poll - Sanctions for Manchester City

I imagine a lot of us, me including, are calling for punishments we know will bring with them chaotic consequences. For me, there are 2 main questions

1. Do you want to punish them into oblivion?

2. How might a potential punishment such as relegation affect the league itself. If they are to remain, do we still need to ensure they can be competitive?

3. Should the punishment ensure that their current squad is effectively stripped of its stars? Or do you have a Juventus scenario where Haaland and Co will be competing in the championship?

For me, a ban from competing across football for 5 years. You’d need to create a further play off from champ to replace them. Plus paying back the amount they earned.
