Manchester City Found Guilty Of FFP Breaches

This is the Pep tweet

Though a strangely named account, it is labelled the official Pep Guardiola account and has nearly 1 million followers

I think he's going to regret not being a bit more measured. His own reputation stands to be shredded too. It will be difficult to pretend he didn't know what was going on. Time for contrition and cooperation with the authorities, not for doubling down to sympathize with criminals.

Yeah wow, if that is a real account he is putting himself right out there! Surely you'd watch it play out quietly.
It's a nothing statement. He certainly doesn't say that he's seen the irrefutable evidence (that has already been refuted)

He's probably still on the City Football Group payroll

It does seem like a statement he didn't need to make.

I feel like his reputation might somehow come out of it alright in the eyes of many neutrals - his reputation as a coach is considered almost untouchable .... the best manager ever, the superstar influencer of lovely passing football, won things everywhere he's been, doesn't gripe as loud as most of the others (...though you don't when you win).

I think he is quite principled in some ways and won't want to be known as a cheat even by association. Maybe he really believes everything he's been told. The emperor's new clothes are difficult to see past after so many years (better analogies may be available).

Add Pep and Hart to the list of deluded ex players and managers who are sticking by the owner

I don’t think his reputation survives this at all. Also remember that Barcelona were paying off refs during his time there as manager.

TBH I did not remember that at all which says something about how strong his reputation is!

I believe it’s still ongoing. They were caught paying millions to refs over a long period, but claimed it was all above board. The City CEO Soriano was also at Barca at the time.

Could be. If I were in his shoes I'd get off it ASAP. As much distance as possible. Bear in mind some of those higher up might soon be in court facing fraud charges.

... they're just taking sides.... towing the party line....I shouldn't worry... they're a tad outnumbered....and a word about Hart....he just loves being controversial...and not just where MCFC are concerned....pundit disease I call it.

It's curious how bullish they are about the appeal and how confident they are they'll be cleared

Maybe they have to be confident, otherwise the club goes to the wall.

Irrefutable evidence, you say?
Seldom does the phrase “show us the money” seem more fitting.

Isn’t he still paid by The City group as their Ambassador?

I think that Man City as a club should be folded. Kicking out of the EPL and dumped into a lower league is unfair to the clubs in that league. They couldn't be trusted in the EPL, it does appears they lied through their teeth in the investigation.
Why should they be trusted in a lower league where the policing would be less stringent, although it couldn't be much worse than the EPL with their fit to own investigations and the track record.

Manchester City Found Guilty Of FFP Breaches

I get that......

I have extended family members who are life long City fans. Put yourself in their shoes for a moment here. They are victims in all of this too. They celebrated the "glory" years in good faith and now unsurprisingly feel angry, cheated, betrayed, lied to, embarrassed, shamed and have spent large sums of time and money following their team.
This mess has wide reaching implications some obvious some not so.
Not looking for or expecting sympathy here but just another consideration.
Wide reaching in I suspect a review of all Clubs owned by same group will also take place at some point

This guy is completely deluded.

"The PL's case is a single false accusation". No mate there's 114 of them

"irrefutable evidence has been put forward to the PL commission.". No mate, it's can't be "irrefutable evidence" as it's be refuted.

"it's a conspiracy therory" - No mate, did you not read the emails?

He actually thinks that he has been found guilty in a biased court and that an "independent" body will find them non-guilty just like last time. The only reason they got away with the UEFA case was the "statute of limitations" in that the case was filed too late.

He then threatens to sue everyone.

This guy is an utter moran.

The PL can't hold a conspiracy theory you moron. You can. The PL can conspire. Learn to speak properly.

Imagine living in a world where they are vindicated and then successfully sue everyone else for compensation. No, I can't either.

I think the ownership are completey knackered here too.
Good riddance to them too.

Do we think there are 5 teams that would vote for them not to be expelled....I think there might be
Would we ? They'd pay mega money for our players, we don't really compete with them , they drive up TV deals . I'm not certain we would

With them out the way we have a real shot at top 5 this season.
I’m not sure it would affect TV deals, they are maybe the 4th or 5th biggest PL team globally? Its not like the league would be losing one of the big 3.

This had crossed my mind. I reckon PL clubs might not vote them out.

Newcastle would certainly be against expulsion for the obvious reason. Forest will easily be bought. Arsenal perhaps under pressure from a certain sponsor. Maybe Chelsea.

Can't see a fifth vote.

Some Manchester City fans are struggling with ‘balance of probabilities’ as a standard of proof.

Presumably the same people have never heard of civil law.

A state owned airline threatening the UK with withdrawal of investment in order to derail punishment of a state owned football club. Truly the spirit of football and the people’s game

Wouldn't be surprised if people had never heard of that tbh.

The more, and louder, the noise—Pep being wheeled out, Etihad threatening to raise the lawfare stakes, Burnham politicising—the clearer it is that the signal has actually got through: Bang. To. Rights.

The mandarins will be desperately trying to craft a face-saving settlement behind the scenes because the FO will want to avoid legal actions vs. Abu Dhabi at all costs, but the noise will only escalate because City have nothing else in their playbook.

Interesting that Abu Dhabi does have an extradition treaty with the UK… but obviously not if you have diplomatic immunity 😁.

....has the 'park' been briefed by HM Gov yet.... call out the 'dogs'.... don't you just love geopolitics and football... games gone.

Manchester City Found Guilty Of FFP Breaches

If the Sheikh was the name redacted as the person who did it know what was going on, then this could provide an off ramp politically

I’m sure there will be discussions at the highest level of government how to save face for all concerned

But the club will lose its executive board, be heavily fined and relegated. And then the other clubs will peck at the carcass

Is the sheikh realistically going to want this hassle and cost or just walk away?

Manchester City Found Guilty Of FFP Breaches

I think you'll get a lot of the old school Citeh fans turning on the owners very very quickly.

I think the majority would want the owners gone, and Citeh to be relegated to league 2 etc and to rebuild their reputation the old way.

The new breed of Citeh fan will be completely confused, may well start supporting Arsenal I guess... but I have a funny feeling a huge divide is about to form.

I'm sure plenty of other airlines will happily pick up their slots ..
