Villa may have recruited more petite players in recent years but their snidey players quota has been off the scale.

I quite like him on Talksport and have read some decent stuff from him over time but that is such lazy journalism. Well, actually it’s not really journalism at all, is it.

Agreed.
The "Warm Up" show he does on TalkSport with Max Rushden on a Sunday morning is a decent listen.
Which makes his ridiculous comment in this piece even more weird.

I think we are PL savvy now. In our first couple of seasons we’re bullied off the ball, but have now hardened up and fight fire with fire when we need to. We are not a dirty side and have had relatively few players sent off unlike Arsenal used to have when Aren Wenger was in charge.

It's funny how supporters see the game differently. I thought our physicality was a big factor in ensuring we survived our first season in the Premier League. Changing our attractive possession based football of the championship to more pragmatic direct football with Toney bullying centre backs and and our big centre backs dominating set pieces. I would also say we were a wake up call to Arteta after we bullied Arse in that first game he quickly added more physicality to his team.
We have now developed into a team that can play attractive possession based football or mix it and win a physical battle, however some lazy pundits and many supporters of other teams just rely on the narrative of our first couple of seasons in the Premier League for their opinions.

I think you have to remember Brighton have been in Premier League 4 years longer than us, Tony Bloom has stakes in 3 other clubs and Brighton have a European competition on their CV. All help in attracting young talent and parking them somewhere less intense than the Premier League to develop. We are starting to dip our toe in those waters with the signing of Guagua and loaning him to Merida AD. Playing trading will become increasingly important to us to help us to continue to grow.

While it's true, and we're just about starting, Brighton have done it for longer than the 4 years of difference in our otherwise mostly similar path, note for an obvious example MacAllister being signed by them back in 2019

Yes. He has been very complimentary about us for a long time. Obvs he was on loan to Brentford all those years ago, but I remember the Bees fans being quite kind to him when he came to town with Walsall, got tonked and subsequently sacked as their manager.
He’s had a tough time in his personal life so I would imagine when people are nice to him, it gets remembered.
