Final Score Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

So frustrating, nowhere near good enough for Europe so we can put a pause on that dream. Too many individual mistakes and a real lack of quality at times.

7 games in, only lost one, in a European place, but nowhere near good enough to be in that position.

No impact on the result but I’d like to continue to highlight the shocking level of officiating we’re experiencing this season.

That referee ignored so many blatant fouls today.
For both teams, could easily have given a penalty to them in 2nd half

Damn, I was looking forward to the rest of the season but now I guess I'd better give up.

I think that some of the criticism of our players on here isn't really warranted even if performances weren't the greatest. Ouattara was taking criticism for no obvious reason, and I felt that Sangare improved as the game went on (mainly after Hickey went off -- an experiment that definitely didn't work). Schade was below his best and Jensen had a mixed game, but Igor is the main concern. At least it was a good lay off for the goal. All he can do is work hard and eventually things will change. In those conditions a point against Hull is no disaster, and, bearing in mind their unbeaten home record, to assume we'll go up there and give them a footballing lesson is a bit Billy BigB.

Just out of curiosity, did anyone who was at the game think that the pitch was playing slow (e.g. longer than we’re used to)? Obviously, the windy conditions didn’t help, but on TV the pitch looked as though it wasn’t the typical smooth surface that we are familiar with.

Hickey lost in midfield. Doesn’t help that he prefers to retreat rather than advance.
I'm not really surprised. He has some of the attributes of a midfielder - he can run, tackle, block. But in defence the game is mainly played in front of you. In midfield it's played around you. It's quite a different situation which requires a lot of tactical and spatial awareness that isn't routinely expected of a full back. It also helps if you have a good first touch and can keep possession under pressure. I have no doubt Hickey could be coached into the role but atm I expect he will struggle a bit.

Fair point, created very little and had a couple of hairy moments towards the end. Thiago completely out of the game and looks devoid of confidence right now.

Pitch looked awful and slow

You say that but what about our performance against Spurs and Chelsea. Leeds in the first half we were as good as anyone.
Last week apart from Yarmo's red mist we would have probably won.
Today we were awful first half. Hickey cannot play that role and the wind was a great leveller. Thiago is the biggest worry and Wilson isn't the answer except as a sub. It's not just that he's not scoring his first touch is poor and he looks lost

Yes. Passes were holding up and the ball wasn’t skipping on as much as at the gtech

Grass height is measured. 30mm max. 28mm recommended. They might have mixed chip fat with the watering system.

I did think KLP was off it today and Schade clearly not fully fit.
Schade was all over the place, we missed Janelt dropping into the LB position to let KLP get forward.

Read someone says they thought Sangare was going to give the ball away every time, they might want to check his match stats :ROFLMAO:

Not everything came off for Sangare but he sees passes that no-one else in our team except Damsgaard would see and is still getting used to the extreme physicality of the league.

That was a situation teed up for Hull , coming into the game on the back of a poor performance at Fulham , conditions that were awful for football and a home game where they were massively up for it. You could tell in the first 5 minutes how tough it was going to be and Hull were quite literally tiger ish and the game was in danger of running away from us after we made it a handicap match by giving them a goal.

It’s easy to be critical but there are two teams on the pitch and Hull who let’s be honest lack individual quality make up for it with a tremendous work ethic and good organisation , no one has beaten them at home yet.

Second half performance was so much better , dominated possession and finally got the goal and we were able to show a bit more quality but couldn’t force the win.
I think maybe we all got a bit carried away after the Spurs game and the Brum thrashing , we are a good side but that shot expectations sky high ! we had to show some real steel today lacking the 2 players who you’d probably have first on the teamsheet for this game .

Dango is getting a lot of stick but I thought he was decent today , he always tried to take them on and had some decent moments. Thiago gets another assist , clever one as well, but my word he frustrates at times , gave it away too often when a good touch could have put him in and it led to dangerous breaks for Hull , last season he’d already scored a few penalties, could do with a few more of those to help him.

In the end a fair result , could have won , could have lost , how many times have we said that this season.!!

So in summary, great thrashing Chelsea and Spurs, great drawing away to Leeds, but draw away to a team that is nearly in Scandinavia and haven’t lost at home this season and we are no way near good enough for Europe?

On another note, I don't think I understand PL officiating anymore. It just seems like every single game I come away scratching my head at decisions, and it's just making the game less and less enjoyable. VAR was meant to fix it, but if anything, it's made it worse.
I was the same @stomalomalus but then I realised it’s a nice lil’ ole Brentford thing.
Every 50/50 will go to the oppo 🥴
This rises to 60/40 when we’re away and play the top 6 and 70/30 when away v top 6.
Bare these rule in mind and you’ll be fine.

I think Tiago is carrying and injury. He seem a lot slower than last season

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

If it was VAR would have got involved
#HULBRE – 61’

The referee’s call of no penalty to Hull was checked and confirmed by

VAR – with the contact from Sangaré on Belloumi deemed to be minimal. VAR: “There's some small contact, but he steps across him and he is as much responsible for creating that contact”.

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

Based on the football, or lack of it , a draw is an acceptable result. From the expectancy of beating " a club like Hull " and being disappointed with anything less than a dominating win, GET OVER YOURSELF. All twenty clubs in the PL are here on merit ( bar one). Look at the table. Sunderland at the bottom have won one in the last six. Same as us.

I want this ref to ref us at home like he reffed Hull at their home.

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

Was a curiously slow game lacking in intensity. Pitch and conditions unfavourable.
....pitch ... conditions... want to factor in the ref....why not....we had no shape... system...not cohesion...it was a f***ing shambles 😘

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

Really quite shocked at the reaction on here to our performance. They’ve not lost at home since March.

By every metric we were the better team. More of the ball, more shots, shots on target, chances, touches in oppo box etc. Unforced error to give them a point aside, we were the better side. And that’s without either first-choice CM available.

Reminds me a bit of the reaction to the Leeds draw(s) we had last year, some of you lot need a reality check for the level of entitlement you’ve developed. This lot have had points of Chelsea, United and Villa this season. We can’t just expect to win these games.
Sanity.

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

Missing two starters in midfield today. Made a big difference. Especially in an away game. Especially in those conditions.
Both teams had to deal with the conditions, we should’ve had enough to get past them Banana. They are winless in 5 and that squad is championship level - I’m disappointed

Hull City 1 - 1 Brentford (Ouattara)

I think we would have lost that type of game a couple of seasons ago so I guess we can take the draw as progress of sorts.

That being said we were dreadful in that first half. Midfield lacked creativity and guile and don't get me started on that moment of madness between Hickey and Kelleher. Got a bit better in the 2nd half and a draw was probably a fair result.

There are no easy games in the PL and I think some of our support would do well to remember that.

Is she available for next week 😄
Nevermind next week. Crowdfund a train ticket to Sunderland.
Got back to Hull Paragon and logged on expecting a mixed bag, matching our performance, but geez some of the comments on here. 😲

Going to start the bedwetters 2026/27 thread and request those that appear to have been lobotomised head there and leave this thread for those who can deal with nuance. Not everything is binary.

We weren’t great but overall the better team. Seemed like the wrong game for the Hickey midfield from the start. Hull ran and pressed like we did when we first came up, not giving him any time on the ball. Damsgaard coming on changed to game and for one was disappointed we weren’t braver with the starting selection as we were more likely to beat Hull with quality rather than endeavour. Sangaré got better and better. Front 3-4 not really working but one of them manages to score pretty much every game.

We’re very difficult to beat and thought the travelling support were very good. Enjoyed the day out and hoping trains back to London play ball.

Massive over reaction above. Showed a lot of character second half, thought we were gonna win it but not to be.
If Gelhardt doesn’t miss an absolute sitter, we lose. Second half wasn’t much better than first. Dams and Anthony subs saved us.
