I don't disagree with you. I'm not a fan of it personally.Yes, I don't doubt this. It wasn't great conditions, especially first half with the wind in our face. But this tactic has no safety net. You short a pass to KLP out wide there's some chance of cover recovery. Not with this pass. If you know they're pressing don't do it - this is what they're goading you into attempting!
Please don't use Russell Martin as a reason why we shouldn't play out from the back, his tactics were ridiculous in that he encouraged his keeper to play the ball to players tightly marked on the edge of the area and refused to adapt. If even Raya and Arsenal are getting "caught out on many occasions", what are we doing? It strikes me as the sort of Pep-inspired suicide that cost Southampton their place in the PL. Let's say it costs us 5 goals and 5 points in a 38 game season (two points so far have been lost you could argue). That's probably the difference between 6th and 12th this year.
Of course it hasn't led directly but I assure you that indirectly it has.Yes, I don't doubt this. It wasn't great conditions, especially first half with the wind in our face. And in answer to boatmonkey above: none. Not one goal has come directly due to passing to an under pressure midfielder at the 18 facing his own goal.
Taking the liberty of replying on behalf of @boatmonkey I think the question was to do with how many goals have we scored as a result of playing out this way?Yes, I don't doubt this. Generally speaking two things are true: 1. You're right, what we do has been wonderful and successful, and 2. Brentford generally and KA specifically doesn't need any advise from me!Taking the liberty of replying on behalf of @boatmonkey I think the question was to do with how many goals have we scored as a result of playing out this way?
Which admittedly isn't as easily identified as conceding goals by playing this way. But it's the way we play.
And I'd argue that our record in the PL is a pretty good indicator that, in general, this way of playing, works.
