All very true.
But in De Zerbi's case, Spurs were so desperate to get him in early last season (i.e. before they got relegated) that he obviously screwed them into the ground over his own conditions of employment and transfer policy etc. Which is why he was able swiftly to bin troublemakers like Romero, Spence and Bissouma for less than they might otherwise have expected, then overpay wildly for replacements like Tonali and Van Hecke, who we must assume were De Z's picks rather than some Director of Football's
By contrast, Thomas clearly never got the option to have a big clear-out from the start, nor was he given the time to turn things round gradually.
Anyhow I cannot see MU giving any new manager the level of control which De Z has, or anything like it. Which is why big name control freaks like Conte won't touch it. Meaning they'll probably appoint someone who'll readily accept what he's given, either because their ego tells them they'll still turn it round and/or they're desperate.
"Doncha just luv it!"
