Pre Season Tour of Germany (Leipzig) 21st, 24th and 27th July

Thought this might need its own thread, very exciting. Shame the games arent a bit closer together, will perhaps be a bit to much money/commitment to do all 3, see how it goes. Anyway fantastic the club is doing this and a great experience for the fans.

I went to Leipzig. Do NOT stay in the Hotel feurstenhoff if you go, looks great on the net but a total shit hole. Separately there is a WICKED absynthe bar in the town centre. There was a HOSTEL type bloke by the entrance and a guy sitting in the window when we went on a dark winters night a few years back. When we got in it turned out that the guy in the doorway was the guvnor and the guy in the window was actually a skeleton dressed up in goth/heavy death metal or some other weird stuff. all over the walls were mental pictures of death and naked ladies. Me and the wife drank up and left but we went past later and the place was rocking. I thought of Brentford Bob at this time.

Went to Leipzig for the World Cup in 2006, excellent city. Very friendly locals a lot of whom speak English.

Accomodation was pretty cheap back then, we got a hostel for about 15 euros a night although i'd recommend staying in the centre as the accomodation on the outskirts tend to be stuck out in industrial estates seemingly the middle of nowhere! In general the cost of stuff of food and drink was pretty cheap, great selection of beers!

Quite a small city so easy to get round and good transport links. Didn't see much of the nightlife back then but lots of bars in the centre that'll be good fun, it was very hot out there when we went, over 30 degress, so hopefully it'll be just as hot.

Think the budget german airlines fly direct from London but very easy to fly to Berlin then a couple of hours train journey onto Leipzig. Will be interesting to see who our opponents are, Lokomotiv Leipzig have dropped down the divisions I think recently so could be a decent opposition. The world cup stadium is definitely worth a vist!

Agree about the timings of the games, not ideal. I'm not sure there is enough to do to stay their a week but then going out there for just one game doesn't seem enough. A long weekend with a couple of games would have been better.

Just looked at some images of it on Google Earth, looks a nice quaint place suitable for the wearing of Lederhosen and other German regalia, can't wait to visit in July !!!

Look on the bright side. They missed out on the 2012 Summer Olympics to London & get Brentford touring instead.

Does anyone know if these games will be in Leipzig or is that just where the squad will be?

Didn't know that to be honest... Unless St. Pauli and Brentford hire out a local stadium... or we're prepared to go there.

Get enough interest and surely a small airliner will take up that offer.

If prices were right, and dates were suitable for me (as in I have tickets for Old Trafford Olympic football so not missing that) then I'd join in...

Only an hour from where I am getting married next year (during the close season off course!). We so wanna go to these friendlies as it's the other halfs region but we've already turned down 2 family party invites (as we are saving for the wedding) and it may p!ss off some of em if we turn up for a footy match - I was gonna angle it as a scouting mission for the wedding but that's all taken care of!
One day my ship will come in & with my luck I'll be at the bloody airport!
