London & South East Premier Division 26/27

It is going to be tough league next season.

A few interesting trips to the coast with Eastbourne Borough and Worthing, but 'its Brentford innit' dictates that these will be winter games

The Three Promoted teams, Eastbourne Borough, Bromley and Hammersmith are all very strong and unless they do a Brentford and break up their promoting winning teams from last season, I can see them all challenging at the top of of the table. In fact I will go as far as saying that all three will be in the Top 5.

Division One South Winners Eastbourne Borough went all of last season undefeated in the League and won the League Trophy, defeating Hammersmith in the final on penalties

Bromley at full time in the League Cup Final, held promoted Saltdean United to a draw and only lost twice all season, against Champions Hammersmith.

Division One North Winners Hammersmith, only lost the one league game last season, away to third placed Camden Town.

Worthing were relegated from the Women's National League - South West Division 1 after finishing bottom, 14 points adrift of safety

My tips for relegation are Worthing and Newhaven with Ashford Town just avoiding the drop

At least we avoided Farnham Town who are throwing money around like water. See they’ve been slotted into the southern tier 5 league.

I watched the womens FA Cup final the other week. Man City V Brighton . It seems Bloom is trying to do what he did with the mens team with the womens. Could be challenging the big girls soon

To be fair, although allocated by the FA Leagues committee, the constitution of the league isn't actually ratified until the LSERWFL AGM on June 29th. Any appeals of league allocations are yet to be heard - although they almost always fail.

There's two or three who might realistically hoped to have been in a different region and may have originally applied for a lateral move. Whether they did or not and whether they are going through an almost certainly futile appeal only they know until the release the appeal written reasons.

The midweek fixtures this season are

Brentford v Ashford Town - to be played by 31 Oct
Ashford Town v Brentford - to be played by 1 May

First batch of Sunday fixtures (usually covering till October) released by 20 July. Season starts 16 Aug.

I remember in 76/77 season when we lost to Aldershit, that Bill Dodgin said he was pleased with the performance and saw something in the team. We went up the next season

When we won 3-1 at the end of the season, I was impressed with thier commradre and the way they battled and commented that I could see them being challenger's this season.

Thought then that they only needed a couple of players to make a difference.

Millwall have made another impressive signing with Chiedza Madamombe from Maidstone. Last year Chiedza bagged 11 goals in Maidstone's champion winning seasons. I'd be tempted its sort of signing we should be looking to emulate, picking the talent from tiers 5,6,7 and given them the best opportunity to shine.

Odd that they have been released before the Premier league fixtures. Maybe it was a slip of the finger on the system. Suspect the Prem fixtures may be released tomorrow or early next week.

Second year in a row we start our campaign against a newly promoted side. At least we are at home, give everyone an early chance to see Uxbridge FC. Going to be tough against Eastbourne though!

Followed by a nice summer weekend in Worthing. @‘Ayes_B will be pleased!

On a personal level, disappointed that we are away to Hammersmith the weekend I’m out of the country. Could be a ding-dong!

In preparation of the league commencing this coming weekend, I had a look to see how our league opponents had done in their own pre-seasons. Details are a bit sketchy from some clubs, and I see there is national campaign for women's teams to talk about their friendlies more. Too many are announced after the fact, or details/results are not given at all. Difficult to get people excited/ready for the season when so much is done behind closed doors.

Anyway, here is what I can find on the pre-seasons of the London & South East Premier Division sides. I've put the tier of the opponents in brackets. so you can gauge how well the result is. Obviously they are all pre-season friendlies, so how competitive each game was, take it all with a pinch of salt. Also aware that I may have missed a game somewhere, so don't take this list as complete.

Cannot find any details for Ashford Town Middlesex or even if they have played anyone at all?

Sutton have had an impressive pre-season, beating higher tiered opponents in Saltdean & QPR. Plus some good results against other tier-5 sides. Newhaven have won every game through their pre-season, most of those games have been against lower opponents, but after their ordinary season last year, installing some positivity and winning mentality might make them a dark horse for the league. Have only found out some of the Dorking results as other clubs have mentioned it on their social media, they have been very guarded in their matches. I've tipped Eastbourne to do well this year, but however their season pans out, you imagine their fans are going to see plenty of goals at both ends of their pitch

Do like the logos. They are quite nice. Odd not to use the league specific ones though on the shirts.

It seams an odd thing to do spend money on.

Are Clubs expected to make them available on replica Club Shirts?

Will anybody ever get close enough to a player wearing one to see what its say's

Will the players require a second set of shirts for FA Cup matches like the men?

Would not tarpaulin adverts around the pitch side have been more effective?

Does the new logo not reduce the Sponsorship appeal of the Leagues?

To be honest, it took me a while to see that the logo was an 'R', as my eyes at first saw a maze and then a SIM card, it was only when reading the text that I associated the 'R' with Regional.

Whilst on the subject of league naming, Our Regional League League Title... The London And South East Regional Women's Football League is to long, even in its L&SERWFL acronym form, something like the ISTHMUS League, with its connotations to the word Isthmian and the men's Isthmian League, would be a better title (Would probably help the Women's game morph into a a triangular pyramid like the men's game too)

I'd also replace the Word 'Regional' for 'Intermediate' which is a better reflection of the of the 'level' and distinguishable from the ' County Leagues' many of whom are Regional like the SECFL which covers Kent, Sussex and Surrey.

I would hazard the consultants didn't fully think through such eventualities or implications on clubs with larger fan bases.

Clubs were asked how many they needed. A request for 120 to cover 25 named shirts for squad x 3 for all three kits, plus 25 for the player sponsor kits, plus 20 for casual sales saw only 75 delivered.

I would hazard the consultants didn't fully think through such eventualities - no one has said. However in absence of an Adobe Womens Cup sleeve patch it wont be an issue.

Theory is the brand is "regional league" giving status and excitement! (Add in own corporate term of choice e.g. shared core value, mirrors both the heritage legacy and future proofs the brand. etc)

This does sort of support the promotion of the umbrella Regional Leagues phrase rather than each leagues. Idea would be a growing fan base will know regional refers to Tier 5 and 6. Not everyone knows what LSERWFL or EMWRFL are.


Larger clubs attached to big mens professional clubs lower down the womens pyramid are outliers within FA/ consultant thinking. Like trying to classify a platypus! There could well be issues with trying to meet FA branding requirements of the regional league and the parent club requirements e.g fonts, graphics. Again, I would hazard the consultants didn't fully think through such eventualities

Dorking vs Ashford already been billed as a 6 pointer for the bottom of the league. Be interesting to see if they do both end up at the bottom, I think both have more then that on offer. For me the London derby between Millwall and Hammersmith could be the tie of the weekend.

Christ, they don't help themselves.

The whole point of the hugely expensive rebranding exercise surely was that the carefully chosen colours and fonts were accompanied by league and regional logos on social media posts.
