I realized this distinction after I moved from London to S.E. Louisiana.
Down here a " Yankee " is definitely someone from the north.
My Dad, a native Louisianian who lived in the London area for many years, used to drive the Rolling Stones around in an old retired ambulance, in their early years.
I remember him telling me that Mick and the boys always referred to him as " the Yank ", much to his annoyance ...

Fingers crossed on this one. One would hope pray and assume that personal terms have already been agreed and that the player wants to join us and was ideally overwhelmed by the personal presentation of his strengths and weaknesses that we customarily make to prospective signings. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

I've no doubt we are pulling all the stops out in this. We have been here quite a few times before, though.

The leak reads as a 'come and outbid BFC' to me. And if, say, Palace want to do that they could and offer him a bigger wage. I do think our failure to qualify for Europe will come back and bite us on this one.

And if it doesn't, I'll be happy to be wrong. Not getting my hopes up till any formal announcement though.

Indeed, I don't fully get the argument that if Palace come in, the games up and he will inevitably go there. We've come this far to persuade him to come to us so he must see some merit in what we have to offer.

CPFC BBS have two pages on their thread but you have to register. half of it is off topic about potential sales.

A number of people in the last 12 hours say Palace probably won't be keen at that price but maybe they should be.

The most useful post about the player says

With Janelt who was absolutely unbelievable prior to injury. He was so good, I wouldn't have swapped him in the starting 11 for anybody in the league. He hit levels that I've never seen from defensive midfielder in a Brentford shirt for around 5/6 games

Jeez, I can't wait for the season to start now.....

1. It is well documented that we are regularly in the bottom 3 of the PL for our wage bill. Palace are not.

2. As my post said, we've regularly been here before, where on here, we've been told a player is interested, yet we miss out.

I'm not saying that he's definitely off to Palace, but we have to be realistic: we can't offer Europe, we don't get into bidding wars and most clubs can pay a bigger wage than us...unless we want to change our policy.

I'm not going nelly negative on this; just adding some realism to the pond we now fish in. If we can overcome all those barriers, it would be such a statement signing. There's more to it though, than bidding big money and persuading a player we want him. If it was, there are plenty of others we would have got across the line.

I don't want to get my hopes up and end up disappointed.

I can remember when ballet was introduced to Brentford training ?in the late sixties, early seventies. Anyone else remember? Keeping to the thread, though, we need another French player and he seems to fit the bill. Does he represent Mali or France? I wonder what Z.Z. thinks of him. Could become our first French (Maki) international should he sign.

Jeez what a signing this chap would be... looks an unbelievable talent from that show reel - has goals in him, some lovely composure, good on the ball and looks an absolute menace to play against in terms of his physical presence. Please Lord let us get this one across the line...

It’s a bloke from Sky Sport Austria with 2k followers, who, even if correct, says in the same tweet we’ve reached an agreement with the player.

Let’s give the day a chance and see what happens.

And fwiw, Lyall, a much more reliable source, posted this morning Palace are keen (which we know) but mentioned nothing more than that.

I don't believe Palace have even bid for this player? Let alone "preparing another bid" - whatever that means - composing an email very slowly?

Anyway hopefully matey is en route to (west) London in the next 24 hours.
