Big club at that level. I noticed their other GK is also 6foot7. Alex Bruce has a preference for his GKs!

Hopefully he earns a starting spot.

For starters, I don't think Duke University - one of the best and wealthiest in the country - would love being referred to as a "sporting school." I don't think Americans would use that wording to describe any school, actually. haha.... In the U.S. this would read something like "Eyestone played one year at Duke University before leaving the Blue Devils to sign with Brentford's B team in 2024."

It's not important at all. It's just funny to see English sports journalists, who have a very particular way of saying things, then try to shoehorn that into the U.S. academy/collegiate sports space.

"prestigious sporting school"

Do NOT look up what their record was when they won the ACC in football, Brentford. They are good at men's basketball. Football and baseball are slightly above average at best.

My wife went to Carolina... the noise she made when I read her the "prestigious sporting school" line was something between a laugh and a snort.

Back on topic: Good luck to Julian. I hope our resident American gets some good reps at Rotherham and will be in the mix for Brentford in the future.

Maybe so, but that’s not getting them any prestige. People only care about the “profit sports” (sports that the school operates at a profit and not a loss) which would be american football, basketball, baseball, and then depending on the school maybe women’s basketball. College golf mostly is not televised, so it doesn’t exactly earn “prestige”

Yeah, I'll watch college soccer if it's on - especially the College Cup games - but it doesn't usually move the needle. I'm a bigger soccer fan than most, but Julian was playing for Duke, like 10-15 miles from my house, and I'd never heard of him before Brentford signed him.
