I treated myself to a first class train ticket to a game at Preston during the early days of Uwe's regime, so perhaps 2012 ish. There were only two other people nearby, Mark Devlin and one of our Directors whose face I recognised but couldn't put a name to. They spent the entire journey talking everything from transfer dealings and internal club affairs to their views on one or two posters on here (actually quite complimentary) with me pretending to be engrossed in a book but sitting listening to every word, utterly fascinated. I was bursting to post on here about the Norwegian striker we were apparently in negotiations with at the time, having offered him the then mind boggling sum of £3,000 a week, but thought discretion was probably the best approach. Nothing ever did seem to come of him anyway.

As far as squads go, we’ve got to be pretty happy with this one? I love a new signing and even I don’t think we need anyone else this window. The depth shown in the match day squad yesterday and that’s without SVDB, Fabio, Milambo, JDS, Nunes, Furo. Every position is well covered now, even without compromise playing time for some of the players that are in and around the bench. We just seem to be improving year after year, even after all the change last season. We have the best squad we’ve ever had

What Keith said on that NBC signing is spot on with how thought we did our business. Identify players that could be good for us but the 2nd part..meet the person (key word). Do they fit in with the club, is the club the right one for us.
Sangare looks like a prime example of that philosophy. I can't think of a better debut. Often it's I like the look of him or he will come good. He looked the part, so much to like
So what do we need. KLP performance.. I think we look good enough at full back now.. I wouldn't be surprised if we went for another wide attacker but I think that's us done

The more I think about it, the more I think we should have very confidence of this being our best ever season.

Arsenal aside, there are so many of the 'big 6' in transition. The likes of Liverpool and Man U seemed to have carried on their average form from last season. No team ethic in either.

Man C and Villa have had massive turnover of playing staff and I expect both to be significantly weaker this season. Spurs have spent lots but look clueless. Lots of upheaval at Newcastle too.

Chelsea may be the ones who improve, but I really think this is the season where top 4 is a realistic achievement with our squad, provided key players remain fit.

Exciting times!

I was thinking this earlier, what a great season to go spend on a top wide player…..then thought about all the players not in the squad.

Sounds like a poundshop Frank Onyeka though.. You'd spend your time on the GPG either advocating for him to start or defending his average at best performances. I hope the club save you the time and heartache. I suspect they will.

Imo he’s a solid player. I also think that in general, there are lots of players that would do well for us that do not do well at other places. Take James McAtee for example. I think he would have be much better off and better developed had he ended up with us instead. I just feel that confident in our development. I think there’s maybe some evidence to back that in Sergio Reguilon. Mind blowing to me that he is in MLS (and average for that level at that) after how well he played for us.

Three of the four you mention are midfielders not wide forwards. It's clear KLP is now staying at LB so in my opinion we need another wide forward as we only have three available this season unless you count Nunes. He doesn't seem close to being a starter so may well be loaned again.

Forgetting Nunes, Carvalho has been used as wide attacker and as a 9a, playing off a central striker, although we’ve seen so little of him it’s difficult to know what role the Club is focusing his coaching on. Dasilva has been a wide attacker and a deeper midfielder on the right so, again, we’ve seen so little of him in the last few years but the coaches will have a clear view as to his role. Milambo’s playing style was a midfield ball-carrier, able to to dribble forward but, yet again, we’ve seen almost nothing of him it’s difficult to know what role the Club is coaching him for but I’d guess it’s still as a more central midfielder. Whatever, I’m sure our coaches have clear views as to the best position they will be used in but we’ve not kept them on without a clear pathway.

Our acknowledged wide attackers – Schade, Ouattara and Anthony – seem perfectly capable of playing off either side, the only question is their dominant foot to say whether wide or inverted is their “best” side…

Why do we need him? We're not really sure how, Carvalho, Milambo and Josh are going to fit in, this adds to that problem.

I actually don't hate that, only 25, can cover RB in a pinch, plays with Collins and Kelleher in the ROI team. Suppose it depends how close Schuster, Ji-Soo and Fredrick are.

If we fancy stockpiling midfielders for a change, instead of GKs and CBs, how about Isaac Price at WBA? 22 yo, AM, originally at Everton. Has the obligatory season and a half in Belgium under his belt too.
46 Championship appearances and 9 goals last season, in a so-so team. He’s started like a train this season, with 2 in 2 so far.
NI international, with a very respectable 10 goals in 32 appearances.
(Don’t ask how or why I keep picking Northern Irishmen, he was born in Pontefract!)
