Fábio Carvalho

Not in the squad today
Might be wrong but I imagine he’ll probably play in the B team game tomorrow. He played 20 mins for the B team on his return, then 30 mins last week vs Rennes. 45/60 mins for the B team tomorrow probably makes a lot more sense in terms of building him back up than just a bench cameo today.

Fábio Carvalho

Any ideas why he didn’t get a run out?
Don't think that's Keith's style. He'd have got one of the game called for it. I wouldn't be worried if I was fab, Keith seems to really rate him and is a big supporter of looking after players who've been out with injuries, his time will come.

I've no problem at all with Keith going for the kill tonight.

But if Carvalho can't get 15 mins when we are 6-1 up in a cup game, I'm not sure when he will get a better chance.

I'm less convinced that Keith rates him.

His time will come. Won’t be long before we’re in the fight for 3 domestic trophies.

Things change so quickly. Yarmo proves that tonight. Opportunities will come.

I don't rate him tbh but i'm pleased he's back from injury, maybe he'll get his chance but I feel he's not at Jensen, Damsgaard standard.

All I saw was focus on giving minutes to the "first" 16 players, giving them sharpness and match fitness was more important than giving Fabio minutes last night. We want our strongest players match sharp. Fabio will get his time and minutes I suspect some B Team games to gain full 45 or 90 mins at a slower pace is more important than odd 15.

The squad is so deep now, that there's just not enough space for the quality players we have in the building and that's with Milambo and JDS not even involved as yet. 🤯

I just wonder might he be one of the loans out (if he is fit). Others have said 'his chance will come', but I just don't get why Keith would pick him in the squad, then give him no minutes, when there will never be a better opportunity to give him.risk free minutes.

If he can't get any minutes in our second string first team, you have to wonder what scenario Keith would give him some pitch time. (Unless we get 2 or 3 injuries in our attack).

You make a good point, but IMHO I think Keith rates him.

I wouldn't take yesterdays selections/substitutions as any kind of blueprint as to how we'll approach cup games moving forward. I suspect they were more about where we currently are in the season and match fitness. Come September, I would imagine Fabio will get some minutes...

Other players like Anthony got vital minutes in the tank and we are much nearer needing him than Fab right now on form and fitness

Fab still has a role to play, he needs to grab his chance when it comes

Also I think we're still building mins into the squad at the start of the season so the changes on Tues kept everyone who's going to be involved on Sun up to speed, he'll get his chance but having a settled team and getting points on the board early is important for confidence

As has been said by many it’s a long season with many twists and turns, no point in building a deep squad then loaning people out to make it smaller again.
Absolutely. The reason we are not in the Europa league is all those draws in the late winter / spring when we had kids filling the bench and were running the fit first teamers into the ground. We clearly don’t want that again…

Players are only loaned out because they need to develop. If the likes of Donovan and Konak cannot become PL ready then we wont keep them. We dont loan out players who we feel can make a contribution on the pitch now, but clearly Donovan and Konak are not at that level atm. If they didnt go out on loan they would not develop to the required level playing B team football.

Fábio Carvalho

Think he’d be well served by going out on a PL loan - especially as playing for Hull would improve the defensive side of his game. Just think he’ll struggle for game time here.

Fábio Carvalho

We're not going to loan him out, especially as were still managing his recovery. Currently with a fully fit squad there is no need to rush him back. As others have said players will get knocks and injuries and the squad/subs for Reading may be completely different.
Let him continue his rehabilitation with us, get fit and hungry and then, when he gets the chance, it's all up to him to make sure KA can't drop him.

We need a 25 man squad to cover injuries unlike last season - loans should be left for the young players to get mens games in a proper environment under their belts. Hope we keep him here as he will have a role to play over the course of the season.

Assuming we can place Meghoma and Nunes with loans, we'll have Schuster and Furo U-21 (I think), so that will allow us 25+2. It seems to me there's a plan that we're not going to get ourselves into the situation we did last season – we'll have a lot of rotations.

I seem to remember that when KA first got the job he indicated he liked a lean squad to preserve squad harmony, since he indicated that players not playing regularly were not happy, maybe that reflected his experience as a player. However I feel his experience at the back end of last season when injuries/fatigue prevented us getting over the line for a European place may have changed his view, maybe after a season review with PG.

He’s a super smart guy and will recognise that the intensity of today’s PL is different level and most sides will bring on 4-5 sets of fresh legs every game. Add in the inevitable injuries and 25 no longer looks too many

Completely agree with this, partocularly the last line.

There's a world of difference between sending a young player like Konak out on loan and Carvalho out on loan. For Konak it'll motivate him, whereas there's an argument that for Fabio Carvalho, given both he's older and has already achieved premier league experience, it does the complete opposite.

I think because we've never had this degree of depth, that sometimes people forget that having players who are good enough to start but can't actually get in the XI is the sign of a healthy squad.

Sending him out on loan won't do nearly as good as KA saying show me why you're inavluable to the team

Keith obviously rates him and whilst last season or even season before no obvious role in team, this season looks as though we will take a very different and more aggressive approach in games and with a more fluid structure of play he could thrive and score a hatful of goals as a result.

Fully agree. Pep always said he liked to work with a small squad but his teams did not play the high intensity game KA wants. High intensity ibviously is very demanding on players hence the need for rotataion
