1-1 an ok result against a horrible to play and very effective team. Their throwing themselves on the ground and constantly playing the ref highly frustrating - but they were also good outside of that and certainly much better than us in the first half.

I questioned Hickey coming on but he kept them much quieter on their left wing than Kayode managed. Thought he did well.

Anthony didn't add much for me.

Poor performance from the referee.

Thought Anthony was excellent, but Yarmo was the one who really took control for us. Three excellent changes at half time. Shame he couldn’t have swapped their ref as well.

Don't agree about Anthony - thought he was a big improvement. Dango looked like his head wasn't right at all, and thought we massively improved when Jaiden came on.

Agree I think Jaidon should be starting ahead of Dango now. Good to have competition for places so a poor performance means you’re not starting the next game.

Three subs at half time and we took over, when YY took over midfield and the forwards got something to work with Sunderland had nothing but diving and cheating in their locker. They couldn’t compete so cheated ably assisted by a quite atrocious ref.

Was it a pen, they do get given occasionally, but less of a pen then shade last week and the two on collins so far this season, that is why we feel hard done by.

Our disallowed goal. Did the keeper have hands on it when it was kicked in? It wasn’t a foul that made him drop it, but maybe he had control of it.

Sunderland only had 3 goal attempts second half, all three from pathetic dives, 2 free kicks and 1 pen.

Three times they stopped quick free kicks or throws from the keeper and threw the ball away and ref literally made us take the free kick from where the ball landed

How on earth did he not see the shirt pull on YY on the edge of their area in the last minute when they counter attacked, he never gave us one 50/50 all day, it’s was one of the most inept performances I have seen for a long time.

But, a hard earned point, and we know thuggery and time wasting are still allowed even though rules were brought in to prevent it.

And can we please bin off that stupid f***ing rule about head injuries in the pen area, just give the ball to the team in possession FFS. If the problem is about giving the ball to the attacking team in the area, then drop it 20 yards outside the area to the attacking team. It just Bollox currently.

And if a player goes down injured and doesn’t require treatment, if he sits on the floor rubbing his toe for 2 mins he should still leave the pitch. He is still wasting 2 mins of the game, if the physio doesn’t come on he shouldn’t be allowed to just sit there wasting time anyway, play on instantly or make him walk off.

Lucky to get a point as we could have been 3 down at HT against a very athletic, quick passing, structured team.

Subs at HT changed the game. Dango had a mare, Kayode who was often left 1v1 got rinsed and Damsgaard struggled (better in the second half).

Hickey came on and shut down the #10, Yarmo gave us some much needed legs and Anthony was a lot busier and. Involved than Dango.

Ref was an absolute tool. There’s not many refs that bad when both sets of fans are howling at him. Although having said that, I thought their penalty was the correct decision.

Keheller was very good, Schuster was solid (and actually looked better than Collins), Ajer did well and overall the second half was much better. Mind you, it couldn’t have been much worse than the first.

A point gained in my book.

On the way out of the ground I asked a couple of coppers to arrest the ref, as he was criminal.
I thought Sunderland were excellent in the first half, they forced us into errors and is was glad it was 0-0 at halftime, when they came out for the second half, they decided to fein injury in every challenge, the ref swallowed it.
Cracking goal by Vitaly, but not enough squad players on top form today.
Feel robbed by the penalty, but a draw is probably fair.

When he came on he looked petrified and we looked scared to give him the ball, by mid second half I had completely forgotten this was a kid making his debut, and up against some of the biggest cheating bullies he will face, the fact I had forgotten shows just how good he was when he settled down.

You said it yourself. 'You make it happen.' We didn't make much happen. Sunderland created more chances. More shots, more shots on target and better xG. The ref is not the reason we failed to win. Lots of falling about, yes, but the big calls were correct.

People really need to get over blaming refs when it doesn't go our way. It's like cry wolf - one time when a really awful performance costs us points, criticism is worthless, because we hear it all the time.

Ajer didn’t pass the ball to him once I think - but Collins was not having a good game and I think that actually the back line looked better with Schuster in it.

Intriguing game and much food for thought. We weren't entirely on it but not entirely off it either against a very decent and well-drilled Sunderland side. It felt like we were taken aback by how much on the front foot they played, and looked more hesitant in our play as a result. Draw probably a fair result, but will reserve judgement on the penalty and disallowed goal until I see a replay. Thought KA got the HT subs pretty much spot on as Outtara was awful and Kayode was having a rare off day. I said after about 20 mins we need Yarmo in there but was surprised it wasn't Damsgaard that got hooked. Hope Collins isn't out for long. Schuster looked decent in the air but a bit hesitant on the deck. And while Ajer is fine alongside someone like Collins or Seb, he still has too many Ajer moments for me being comfortable with him as the senior CB partner.

Wonder also if we'll get a look at Diouf soon. Love Keano, great going forwards, has filled in admirably at left back, but looked like a little boy against Sunderland's men at times. Trouble is, he's more than earned a place in the side, but would he be a starter in the attacking positions? Perhaps not. And as we've seen in the past, he seems to struggle more starting as an attacker and looks more dangerous breaking from deep. If only he had, ahem, a few more inches on him. Suppose it never did Rico much harm though. A quandary!

While Keith did a good job at half time, there must be questions about how we were set up - and how we didn’t seem to change anything during the first half after being outmanned in mid field. There was no cover for Kayode - who needed it. And Sunderland were excellent to start with - and they did a job on Thiago, particularly there number 5.

For me Collins and Ajer together sometimes lack composure - which we used to get from Ethan or Ben Mee and sometimes from Sepp. After Nathan went off I thought we calmed down a bit, and steadily improved.

Dango hasn’t been the same since he missed that header at Anfield - I noticed then that there weren’t a lot of people putting an arm around him - and perhaps that miss, which meant we missed out on Europe, has affected him.

As to the Ref I’m not sure the Sunderland fans rated him either - seemed to lose control of proceedings pretty early on.

And I think we really miss Matti for his defending from the front.

Now not wishing to be suspicious of our opponents but can it be that on the 5/6 occasions it happened the pain threshold reached the exact same point that meant an audible scream was required ? Or is there something else at play here ? I can imagine Sunderland hiring a Shakespearian actor and running through the various agonising screams and rehearsing them with all of the squad until they were pitch perfect .
It worked a treat as every time they did it the referee dutifully obliged and gave them the decision .
Perhaps we need to add Kenneth Branagh to our long list of specialist coaches as I don’t want us to miss out on this particular fine margin in the future.

A game full of weirdness. We played like strangers in the first half, then Collins (who looked as if it was a heel injury) was replaced by Schuster, who took time to settle A clear off-side reversed a goal awarded against us and we plodded on, Sunderland with their tails up. Kayode and Ouattara were very poor and Sangaré was 'looked after', quiet and got frustrated – all rightly hooked at half-time.

We brightened up significantly in the seconds half. Schuster's confidence came on strongly and he ended up outshining Ajer; Hickey showed was a good full back does, simply and effectively; Anthony was streets ahead of Dango, who never seemed to be in the right place, and gave us a real outlet on the right; Yehor gave us real energy and aggression in the middle. After a short period of Keith's attacking chaos, Janelt calmly planted a clearance into the net and we were in front! We then go a second 'goal' disallowed for a foul on the 'keeper and they made more changes to try to get an equaliser... which duly came from a penalty given away by Lewis-Potter for grappling in the box while not facing the incoming ball.

Vitaly was my MoM, for battling all through, often at the referee's displeasure and getting a third yellow in three games. Hickey had an excellent half, Anthony looks good as a conventional right winger and Schuster ended the game looking impressive... but a game to forget, really. We'll need a big improvement for next Saturday.

VAR has to back the ref with the two decisions he made. For me the penalty is soft..however I've seen us fouled like that or worse and nothing given.
I think we've have a legitimate goal chalked off. I don't think their keeper has full control of it.
The worst part of the refs performance is countless Sunderland getting in his face and no punishment.
That first half was as bad as last week at Elland Road was majestic. We need to be better than that

Certain elements of this game remind me of the end of last season

1. Flicks and lay offs in the first half that were just not coming off. Needed a bit more control and composure which we had in the second half
2. IT spending a lot of time trying to hold up the ball, win long balls, rather than being on the last man so giving the wingers a target in the middle
3. Ineffective Dango

Biggest positive - we have the players who come off the bench and improve us immediately when certain players are underperforming. Loved that KA took the initiative and didn’t shirk from taking off whoever was below par
