Final Score Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

That is possible - some of the first half problems (Kayode giving #10 acres of space, the massive gaps in midfield) could have been sorted with some shouting from the bench rather than hooking two of the (usually) most dynamic players. Damsgaard looked heavy legged to me too.

The half time subs completely changed the game from total Sunderland domination to total brentford domination. I don’t think any shouting would have changed the flow of the game first half. Unless the shouting was “come off number 10, go on number 12” or something similar

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

First half we got it all wrong, they had the extra man in the middle, by passed out three forwards and the forward playing dams and dominated

We got a foothold and went in 0.0

Three subs at half time and we took over, when YY took over midfield and the forwards got something to work with Sunderland had nothing but diving and cheating in their locker. They couldn’t compete so cheated ably assisted by a quite atrocious ref.

Was it a pen, they do get given occasionally, but less of a pen then shade last week and the two on collins so far this season, that is why we feel hard done by.

Our disallowed goal. Did the keeper have hands on it when it was kicked in? It wasn’t a foul that made him drop it, but maybe he had control of it.

Sunderland only had 3 goal attempts second half, all three from pathetic dives, 2 free kicks and 1 pen.

Three times they stopped quick free kicks or throws from the keeper and threw the ball away and ref literally made us take the free kick from where the ball landed 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

How on earth did he not see the shirt pull on YY on the edge of their area in the last minute when they counter attacked, he never gave us one 50/50 all day, it’s was one of the most inept performances I have seen for a long time.

But, a hard earned point, and we know thuggery and time wasting are still allowed even though rules were brought in to prevent it.

And can we please bin off that stupid f***ing rule about head injuries in the pen area, just give the ball to the team in possession FFS. If the problem is about giving the ball to the attacking team in the area, then drop it 20 yards outside the area to the attacking team. It just Bollox currently.

And if a player goes down injured and doesn’t require treatment, if he sits on the floor rubbing his toe for 2 mins he should still leave the pitch. He is still wasting 2 mins of the game, if the physio doesn’t come on he shouldn’t be allowed to just sit there wasting time anyway, play on instantly or make him walk off.
Pathetic dives ! Lol
Pathetic holding and not even trying to play the ball all match!
Honestly, Brentford are easily the worst team in the league for it. Lewis potter isn't looking at the ball when he holds back Isidor. He did this time and again - unbelievable that he never gets carded for numerous professional fouls.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

I find it funny how fans see things. 'sunderland are cheating bastards' !
Like last season, I find Brentford probably the dirtiest team in the league. Not violent, but sly pushes and holding all over the pitch - and really Brentford should have had players sent off who were on a yellow for more holding (professional fouls).
Great game though, happy with a point as I think Brentford will be a top 8 team this season.
Hopefully we will have a better ref at the SOL as today he was pretty poor. When Collins ran into and tried to push brobbey and ended getting injured and then getting a free kick is something that we have begun to get used to. Woeful refereeing. And brobbey getting pulled and held in the box - easily a pen in the first half and another instance imo of VAR and refs behaving differently to brobbey than other players.

So Sunderland cheating bastards?! Hmmmmm, when you're getting held and pulled back all over the pitch , it must be frustrating for players and don't think the ref gave us a free kick which wasn't warranted .

The only thing funny is how deluded some fans are about their own team

Arsenal are the only team in the last 3-4 seasons who have riled me up as bad as Sunderland did yesterday with the constant diving, squealing like pigs, ref baiting, tactical fouling, time wasting, stopping quick free kicks and throwing the ball away

You expect a level of protection from the ref but when he is that incompetent, we made the changes at half time and there was only one team trying to play football second half and your only 3 shots came from ridiculous dives that he would never, ever give us a free kick for.

Basically Sunderland are a cross between everything vile from Argentina in the World Cup and Wimbledon from 30 years ago, with not much else going for them.

Enjoy your anti football season, I suspect of the reffing remains the same level you will have quite a decent Arsenal-esque season, but I am glad I don’t have to sit through that garbage every week

Your team is f***ing horrible, Wimbledon style cheats

Just bore the f*** off mate, no one is interested in your deluded bullshit on here.

Like I said, it's funny how other fans see things.
Brentford fans think we dive and cheat (lol) as are continuously pulled back and held and the ref is poor for giving free kicks against Brentford.

Sunderland fans think the ref is poor as doesn't give enough and let's Brentford off with numerous pulls / holds , and yellow cards for professional fouls. And we see Brentford as the dirtiest and most sly team for continually fouling/pulling /holding in the league.

Agreed. I thought the ref was poor (aside from the big decisions which he got right) but I didn’t think Sunderland’s antics were any worse than others I’ve seen - including us at times. Bit of an over reaction on here.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

For me:

Ref had 3 big moments and got them all correct
  1. The Sunderland disallowed goal
  2. The Brentford disallowed goal
  3. The penalty.
The rest of the reffing I can't say I am so certain about.
Didn't he give our 2nd goal initially??

I don't think we had total dominance at any period of the match! But I agree that the subs improved us

Different fan viewpoints are always fun to read!

I think if you combine the two views you have a fair summary if the refs performance. He let the physical players get on with it whereas he was whistle happy whenever any other player came into contact. It impacted the flow of what should have been a good game.

I was impressed by Sunderland, reminded me of the better Thomas Frank teams who could do a bit of both sides of the game

Lol !

You think sunderland are like Argentina and anti football because they go down too easy when held! Lol ! Bit extreme - zero to crazy in 2 seconds.
The easiest way for Brentford to negate this would be to stop holding surely ?
If you think we go down easily lots then surely you have to realise Brentford hold and pull lots and lots and lots. And lots

Your physical players (Brobbey, Zhaka, Ballard) were easily the match of ours. It's the powderpuff ones who acted like they were entitled to a free kick and a cuddle whenever anyone touched them that people are objecting to. I thought it a weird tactic as any time you got it down and played football you made chances against us yesterday

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Haven't read above yet, gonna say what I saw without influence then read back.

A couple of chaps on the other thread (think @Argus and a couple others) declared Leeds to be a better team than Sunderland before a ball was kicked, based on absolutely nothing whatsover. It felt a little like this was coming, big expectation and a big build up to beating Sunderland at home and IMO we were lucky to come out with a point.
Fair mention, but I disagree that it was based on nothing. Data and performance from second half of last season, pre-season and start of this one, along with activity in the transfer market is what I based it on. I still believe that Leeds will do better than Sunderland this season, but I concede that they did much better than I expected. We were clear favourites going into this match, yet we were outperformed in a large part of it. That will happen.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Woke up wondering if maybe we have a bit of a sickness bug in the camp.
Too many players well off the pace for it to be a coincidence?
Said that during the game yesterday.
Sangare was off colour & Damsgaard looked like he was struggling to run even in the first half.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

They looked like they were running round in little white ankle socks yesterday with those brown socks.
Did the kit man forget to pack them & they borrowed our old ones from last season?

I hate the diving and rolling around, but it seems to be part of the game. Yesterday Sunderland were on a different level and it was blatant cheating. So many went down in agony, definitely on their last legs, only to spring up a few moments later, none the worse. All teams do it but Sunderland made it a key part of their game. It is notable that none of the players were injured or even required treatment.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Another thing the rules committee need to sort out is the players who flop to the floor feigning serious injury when a team stops their attack & breaks.
Their player was laying down outside our penalty box while we’re suddenly down the other end creating a chance.
Once our attack fizzled out he’s up & about running around like nothing happened.

It's commonly known as the Xhaka factor...

Changing the subject, if you’re ever mardy after a game, I can’t recommend walking to Richmond along the river enough. Just gorgeous on a day like yesterday. Was in a great mood by the time I got there.
Long way for me to get back to Northolt if I’m honest. 😀

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

ummmm, but the cloud might roll in. I'll try and find out.
From where I was it looks like we 100% won the toss and changed it round!!!! They had kick off.

Why would we do that?!? Always better attacking the west second half. Crowd etc.

Mad decision

I couldn’t work out why they were time wasting when they had us on the ropes in the first half and were even worse at 1.0 down.

So engrained in their psyche they couldn’t help themselves even when they needed to up the anti when we were outplaying g them second half

f***ing weirdo’s

I walked back to Ealing Broadway to lighten my mood, bumping into my wife’s cousin at North Acton on his way home from Craven Cottage did the trick in the end. 😀

Fair play mate, and didn't mean to single you out, you were in the majority.

I felt like people were underestimating Sunderland, including the bookies. We were only clear favourites because Football is fickle and people have very short memories. We were flavour of the week, I don't think we are now.... hopefully back under the radar we go.

In fairness, I don't know who will finish higher out of Leeds or Sunderland, but Sunderland gave us a tougher game that's for sure. We should have buried Leeds in that first half, as SL should have to us.

Either way, as mentioned in my post, I feel we CAN win at Bmuff... that's the beauty of the league. On to the next.

Don’t you have a Sunderland forum you could be on to post this nonsense?

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

The ref got two of the three big calls wrong.
Painful to admit but all three were correct

Ballard's shot left Kelleher unsighted by the off side player. He might not have saved it even if he hadn't been unsighted but that's irrelevant.

Anthony kicked the ball out the keepers hands. I think TV replays confirm that.

The KLP block/stranglehold was stupid and unnecessary but clearly a foul. If he'd simply used his upper body strength to hold his ground rather than using his hands to wrestle his opponent then he wouldn't have been penalised.

The fact that two out those three went against us doesn't make them wrong!

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Woke up wondering if maybe we have a bit of a sickness bug in the camp.

More like Sunderland were bang on it and we were slightly off it but in the Prem League that makes a huge difference. We couldn't get a grip of the midfield in the first half and Kayode and Dango were all over the place on the right hand side. Mostly down to Dango not doing his defensive work as well as we needed and leaving Kayode to exposed.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Don't know why they do it. It always starts with this faux politeness and "isn't it funny how different people see things" and then within two posts they're frothing at the mouth.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

Right, I have had time to sit down and think about what went on yesterday and first and foremost the (so called) referee was a total joke, Sunderland were playing him like a small child falling down at the slightest touch and getting the free kick, blatant time wasting which went unpunished kicking the ball away at free kicks again unpunished as for the penalty Isidor was looking for it and the ref fell for it hook line and sinker.
As for the rest of it, fair comment the 12 men of Sunderland were better on the day but the ref got then out of jail in the end with the penalty because let's face it that was the only way they were gonna beat Kelleher yesterday

Your team had a storming first half yesterday.
Really impressive.

I think we all see our own team with rose coloured specs, but Brobbey was in line with going forward in the second half and he backs in constantly with a big handful of the defender’s shirt.
Not a problem for me as it’s strong centre forward play, but he isn’t exactly an angel!

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

There was an occasion when Angulo was challenged near the
North stand and I heard his scream in the south as if his leg had been shattered accompanied with banging is had on the turf. Ref gave nothing and he immediately jumped up to demonstrate with him.

That was the snow capped peak of their sh*t-housery!
Absolutely shameless, that one.

Brentford 1 (Janelt) Sunderland 1

...I don't disagree with that mate....we were better second half... absolutely... but they really had done their homework... changing ends....
I've been thinking about this. Early GP days it didn't matter to the supporters as we could just change ends just like the photographer from the Middlesex Chronicle. If it really has a conscious or subconscious effect on players maybe KA and his posse need to change the mentality by swapping ends given the choice. Oh and dig Chick Brodies hat out of the archive when it's sunny.

So much to unpick in this game that I’ll leave it to others to unpick the key bits . What struck me particularly in the second half was that when a Sunderland player was even remotely in contact with one of our guys they let out a blood curdling scream that could be heard by us all .
Now not wishing to be suspicious of our opponents but can it be that on the 5/6 occasions it happened the pain threshold reached the exact same point that meant an audible scream was required ? Or is there something else at play here ? I can imagine Sunderland hiring a Shakespearian actor and running through the various agonising screams and rehearsing them with all of the squad until they were pitch perfect .
It worked a treat as every time they did it the referee dutifully obliged and gave them the decision .
Perhaps we need to add Kenneth Branagh to our long list of specialist coaches as I don’t want us to miss out on this particular fine margin in the future.

I'm no Kenneth Branagh but I'm happy to come out of retirement if it helps. I once did a voiceover for a WW2 computer game where we wrapped up the script with about 10 minutes of the allotted studio time left. Since they were paying for both my time and the studio hire, I was asked to spend the remaining minutes dying in as many different ways as possible - accents a bonus. Think I even managed to get a couple of comic book "Aiee!" and "Gott in Himmel!" in before the clock ticked down...

Definitely something not right yesterday, has to be one of the worst first half performances I’ve seen from us in a long time, some very un Brentford things, Schade and Outtara waving and gesticulating at each other at one point, I can only think Friday afternoon’s team bonding Monopoly tournament got a tad over competitive.

remind me why we got the fella in from WHU.

Remind me of why we got Callum Wilson, Jaidon Anthony, Cavhalio, Shuster, Yarmaliuk, Valdermarsson, Hickey, Meghoma, Ji-soo, Milambo, Konak and Donovan in?

Surely they need to all be starting, because we "brought them in"

97 PL games played at G-Tech since promotion.
We've attacked West Stand in 2nd half in 79 of those, gaining 124 points at an average of 1.57 points per game
As yesterday, we've attacked the East Stand in 18 games, gaining 24 points at an average of 1.33 points per game.

So, extrapolating that, over a full season, if we attacked the West Stand in the 2nd half for every game we would 'expect' 30 points from our 19 home games. If we attacked the East Stand in the 2nd half for every game in the season, we would 'expect' 25 points. A not inconsiderable difference of 5 points over the season.........

Also, we've scored 90 goals when attacking the west Stand, and 73 attacking the East Stand.

HTH?

(Of course, none of the above takes into consideration which teams we were playing when attacking which end in the 2nd half).
