Yes and I wasn't providing you with a complete answer.

TFL don't do return fares anymore but GWR do. Return prices you can get on National Rail website etc.
The evening peak doesn't usually apply to return fares/"paper tickets" unless the train is specifically barred from being an off peak service so it can be cheaper to be on a return ticket our of Paddington between 4pm and 7pm instead of a contactless ticket for that reason.
Cheers, I didn’t realise the evening peak thing for paper tickets existed!

Has anyone tried that F1 shuttle bus from the station to the stadium?

Anyone got any advice on the best way to get from somewhere like Andover up to London, go around London (a few journeys) then down to Reading for the game via Brentford then back to somewhere like Andover. Got a Network Card.

Trying to work out if there is a way I haven’t thought of.

I used the station shuttle bus many years ago and also for a game in about 2022.
Seemed to work fine... on the way out there was a queue of buses waiting to fill up and leave.

On the way back it used to be a bit of a gamble. If you were on the first wave of buses it was easy and they let the buses out before the cars. But if you missed the first wave you had to wait 20+ minutes for the buses to go to the city and back to the stadium again, empty. That is 20 year old info though.

The around London bit just tap your debit/credit card. There’s a cap depending on which zones you travel in. Means you don’t have to worry about how many different places you visit.
Maybe look at Andover to Reading return and take it from there mate?

SWR Reading Green Park via Basingstoke to Andover?

No just Reading as per the query mate!
If it's ending up at the game, then do the first part independent of the return... although I assume that train to Basingstoke comes from Reading anyway...

Couldn’t he just do a return to Reading then which I’d hope would be cheaper?
To be honest there will be others who live around that route that he’s going who can better make suggestions!!
The hopping around London for the day is probably best via debit/credit card though.

Yes it used to be ok 👍 obviously it’s better getting to the ground as after can be a bit of a bunfight with crowds, roads etc

To save you asking in the future, every single match in the Carabao Cup is on Sky.

Impossible to buy any parking now. Tells you to do it via ticket office page. Register and they've blocked any accounts made after 10th September from buying anything for the game.

Anywhere else I can park instead of this non league outfit

I registered and booked parking just now. I think the 10th September restriction is just for match tickets. Good luck!!

Park at Mortimer Rail Station and it's one stop to Reading Green Park. Probably quicker getaway than on-site parking at the stadium!

What's the walk from Green Park like if you know please? Last time I went to Reading I parked and suffered the wait in the car park. Not sure I want to go through that again.

Never done it but it's not right next to the stadium, like the Amex. It's the other side of an office park and I believe it's a 20 minute walk away from the stadium.

I've done Mereoak a couple of times. Normally get there early & walk 10 minutes to The Swan, Three Mile Cross (other side of the A33 so be careful!) & leave about an hour before KO to get the bus in. Slight wait after game but all good normally

I'm planning on taking it tomorrow. Hoping it's as well organised as the old Everton Goodison Park service or the Anfield one. They were easy on the way out and a bit of a queue on the way back.

It was as good in the past but I wouldn't bet my mortgage on it after them spending so many years in the doledrums and us bringing 5k.

Im driving there and back on the night. Any advice on parking around the Old Basingstoke Rd area (other than 'dont do it!)?

There is parking at the Holiday Inn by Junction 11 of the M4, cost is around £15.00, can be pre booked on - Your Parking Space, 15 min walk to the away end and easy getaway onto the M4 after.

If you haven't booked parking yet, you're not getting anywhere close I don't reckon.

The reviews on the Your Parking Space people mention that no need to pre book and it’s cheaper to pay on the night, should be ok if you get there early enough, the hotel bar is also open pre match.

Fully expecting the usual A303 overnight closures s**t show on the way back tonight.....🙄
Anyone have a clear understanding of what to expect, as the websites seem to give conflicting and confusing information?!
Might even be worth going M4 and M5.....

Have I read that correctly that you can just use your Contactless Bank Card to tap in and out, on the Shuttle Buses?

Why would you both think that?

Please note tap on tap off ... cannot be used on our football buses.
