Reading away. Carabao Cup. (15th Sep 8pm)

Home in time for the last minute of Tuesday to expire. The Lizzie Line addition since we last visited provides a valuable additional option out of dodge!

F1 bus was a bit of a shambles. Queue at gate 10 was a bit of a shambles. Then 23:17 Lizzy Line cancelled. Paddington train delayed, so no more tubes back West. Just made it home a couple of minutes ago.

Atmosphere and final score made it all worth it though!!

Back at 12:30am in Gloucester, which wasn't awful given how long it took to leave the car park, plus a quick charging/wee stop

01:00 arrival in Somerset due to car park exit farce, and A303 closures which meant SatNav routed me via M4 and M5...
"Looking forward" to a similar journey and probably later return home time for Chelsea game on Friday.....

Made a catastrophic left turn coming out of the Hilton side road instead of following the sat nav suggestion to go right. As I tell my wife when driving though, I know what I'm doing, I don't need any help thank you.

I got an uber from the station, and a uber back, I would have got the bus back, but one of the stewards was rather rude when I asked the quickest way to the football bus. His exact words were I don’t f live here mate, my response was either do I and your a steward and part of your role is to assist people 🤷‍♂️

Followed the crowd and started walking down the A33 towards town. After 10 minutes realised we had been walking in the wrong direction so went back. Got about 1.5 in and then found out the last Lizzie Line train was cancelled, luckily a black cab stopped at the lights just as we were crossing, so we jumped in that and managed to grab the last Lizzie Line train.

Except for Andy the Pole who decided that another pint in the Grey Friar and three more in the Spoons in town and the 1am GWR train was the better option.

Definitely take our ground for granted and even GP being located well. It's so sh*t being a ground just miles from anywhere!
I say this a lot but for ease of access, choice of decent places to eat and drink, all within easy walking distance, and location I honestly don’t think there’s anywhere better in the country.

We have it extremely good. Imagine going to the likes of West Ham and Reading every other week…

I dont like the Olympic Stadium for watching football but have no problem with its location. Easy travel to/from. Lizzie line or Central Line to Strafford one stop back to Hackney Wick on the Overland. Loads of eating and drinking places Hackney Wick side.

Are you not allowed to park in the retail park next to the stadium then? Won't need this option for a while, but it was absolute chaos just getting into the stadium. We got there 10 minutes early and were in our seats 10 minutes after kickoff!

parked just down from the World Turned Upside Down on the old A33, 10-15 minute walk back (even with the kids) and back in Surrey Heath by 10.50pm. I know walking is not possible for all but for most aways out of London you can always find easy street parking no more than 15 minutes way. Even at West Ham if you risk leaving your car in Bow!

Parked by the Premier Inn/Popeyes/Wren Kitchens/Burger King - 15 minute walk to the ground.

Free parking - it said 2 hour maximum stay, but everyone was doing the same. No enforcement apparent - no ANPR cameras visible (will update if I get a ticket) - so would recommend that if you are heading to the M4/A33 afterwards.

Two diversions on the A303 last night. I failed to see the funny side of that.

Was in car park 6, got in early around 6:15pm so got a good spot right by the exit. Left bang on the final whistle, back in Isleworth at 10:50pm. The perfect crime.

School night! I’d promised the mrs I’d get the boy home before 11. But that’s a great effort coming from Somerset and you deserve double taps!

It’s also remarkably easy to get in and out by car and get parked up if you know where you’re going.

Easy trip for me, but not one I'll be in a hurry to do again.
Train from 'slow, change at Feltham, through to Reading, Free Shuttle Bus to SCL Stadium.
Bit of a wait after the game, but made it back to the station with ten minutes to spare.
Can't believe any sane Reading fan would use the car park next to the stadium.
How did they cope when they had full houses, in the Prem?

Slower.

Not a long wait (a walking stick helps) for that shuttle, and just made the 22.58 Lizzie to Hayes & Harl. I then decided to catch the 140 bus at 23.50, which had seemingly caught and passed an SL9. I soon found out this was correct. She set off like a rocket, and we’d passed a 90 and an E6 before reaching The Grapes. We sailed across the White Hart roundabout before midnight, and similarly at The Target without apparent use of brakes. No stopping was countenanced at Northolt Station, and I staggered off the bus at 00.06!
