A bizarre start to the podcast, Billy slurring about ‘tourists’ who seemed to know all the old songs (Lasse Vibe etc). He often talks about ‘kicking football out of football’ when enjoying a match, but guess that only applies to him and his pals.

As you enjoyed it so much, you might like to go back on 4th October( we’re not playing). A Town Centre cavalcade of 125 years of Reading buses (I think they were all in use last night)!

I might just pass on that magnificent sounding event if that's all the same with you. Mind you I guess they could accompany that parade with the sound of clown/circus music, which would be appropriate given their level of service from last night!

For what it is worth - my take on the game last night;


Thought Damsgaard was excellent and set the tempo.
Side looked disjointed - focus and prep has obviously been on Chelsea game and less on this one.
I thought Carvalho was anonymous.
Defence looked solid enough.
Dango drifts in and out of games - if he can't command a game like that then he will struggle. KLP got very fed up with him for not moving off the ball in the second half.

Carvalho wasn't anonymous.

With Collins out injured, and Vitaly not getting on at all, definitely seemed to be lacking a bit of leadership out there last night.
Even Jensen provides a bit when he's playing, so understandable I guess, but would have liked to have seen more from the likes of more established Bees pros, like Ajer (Captain last night) and Rico too.

Disappointed Fredrick didn’t make an appearance surely he would have been better than Rico in the centre of defence especially as he didn’t play on Sunday so he would be ready for last night!

Tourists in an away game on a Tuesday night; nothing to do with some fans taking it easy as it’s an away League Cup in the middle of the f***ing week.

Other would say we’re a massive club if we’ve got tourists at an away game in the middle of the f***ing week in a League Cup game.

Listening to the Beesotted pod now. Billy’s got a right mood on about the Bees fans last night - “too many tourists”. He also moaned about people wanting to sit in their own seats which is always a strange one to me.

Was it that bad?

Yeah was a weird listen. Billy and Dave usually really positive did they spend the whole game on concourse duty? . Atmosphere is never going to be great when they are mid table league one and we were 1 up in 2 minutes

Agree. Was a strange one. Always enjoy listening to Billy and crew but felt he got it all wrong last night. I agree atmosphere wasnt as loud as maybe hoped, but seemed ok from where I was high up in the corner, and agree with Hanworthbee about possible reasons for that. Sure if we took exactly the same 5,000 away to someone like Arsenal it would be totally different.

My biggest issue were the comments that it would be better to just sell 1,500 tickets and get a better atmosphere. Like implying only hardcore 'Old Brentford' should get sold tickets. Which seemed very entitled in itself, and just weird. Should my Bees-mad 16 year old not go to away games and learn what it's all about, just because he doesnt know who Terry Hurlock or Robbie Cooke are?? And what about all the 'Old Brentford' 60+ year olds who sit near me in the North stand and dont sing. Should they not go, after decades supporting the club? Anyway, sure it'll be a completely different situation Friday. COYB

Been to Reading a few times before and I’m always reminded of how lucky we are to have initially GP and now the Gtech in such fantastic locations .
We got the train to the new Green Park station which was easy but it was quite a yomp to the ground through the residential and then business park which has expanded massively over the years.
It’s all pleasantly landscaped with lakes and parks but it would drive me mad if I had to do that journey every time , from downing the last pint to entering the stadium was the best part of an hour.
Doing the reverse journey in the dark was positively dangerous , not enough lighting and someone in front of me managed to impale themselves on a bollard in the middle of the dark path ! Not to be recommended!!
How long does it take to get out of the car park ? Must take at near an hour , couldn’t believe the number of people sat in cars with engines running with no chance of moving for ages.
So thank you Mr Benham for the GTech it’s much appreciated!!

It's a slightly strange and romanticised idea that the 1500 'Old Brentford' made up a vociferous support. I've been to many Brentford away games when I was younger and been to Reading in the past with about 1,500 away fans and it has never been massively loud, apart from the fans up the back of the stand.

That said I was hoping last night would be a little louder and I don't think the categories work or people don't pay attention to them, as my singing block wasn't making a lot of noise

I asked a steward and she said they haven't produced a programme since before COVID.

Along with Chelsea away in 2022 it's the only game I haven't got a programme for. Although I think give it a couple of years more and they will be consigned to the history books sadly.

Our coach seems to value experience over potential. Most clubs see this competition as a way to blood a few young players.
