I’ve always wondered a little where Fabio fits, but I now think he may be an integral part of the matchday squad. Keith’s ‘energyball’ approach requires unbelievable physical intensity (and quickness) in the attacking midfielders’ pressing, on top of all the attacking stuff itself. Fabio is nimble and has quick movement - he could be perfect in that role in the evolving setup. Hope he gets 💯% up to speed and shows what he can do, especially if Matti’s out for a bit.

He has never quite got the goals that his movement deserves imo.

On the bench, maybe, but I can't imagine he'll get on... unless we're 6 goals ahead.

Always seems to make something happen/get chances when he comes on, so thought FC might have replaced Damsgaard at the end of the game......

I assumed Wilson was brought on as his reading of the game was needed. He spotted and stopped a Sunderland breakaway on our right late on that was excellent play.

Possibly.
I thought he came on as KA was going for the win, rather than his "defensive" work.
And I'd still stay bringing FC would (IMHO) have been more likely to result in 3 points.

Not saying he was brought on for his defensive work, just that it was an example of his ability to read the game. I'd like to see Carvalho at some point but I think the intensity of the last few minutes of that game probably needed experience... as well as a goal.

This is his differentiator. We don't have another midfielder with his goalscoring instinct.

He takes up some great positions in the box and has a real strikers instinct positionally.

He has never really got started with us and I hope his time is now.

Could really help out Igor by being far closer to him centrally than any other midfield player on our books. Will require some tweaks in formation whereby the two wide attacking players drop a little deeper.

A serious option instead of Jensen, he is such a threat and uses the ball well.

On this season's showing so far...I'm not sure I'd agree with that. I love Dams, but he's not getting into games.

We have a little bit of a disconnect in the final third. KA is trying something different, and I don't think we've fully adapted yet, so Fabio could have exactly the same "issues", but he may flourish.

What a great little interview, he looked and sounded genuinely excited to be in and around the first team. I said the other week his attitude in the B team game vs Sunderland was spot on and hopefully he can kick on from here. He signed the boy's football card on Sunday so he is a new favourite!

Maybe Chelsea's not the game for it but I wonder if Keith will be working on another formation/style of play to take advantage of Fábio (or Schade) with the potential of Anthony and Diouf supplying quick and accurate crosses. It would mean two players working together in the box tight on two centre backs and the midfielders working to cover at LB and support the attackers in the half-spaces.

Possibly a dream from me but it would make us an attacking machine!

I do genuinely think the formation that gets the best use of our current personnel would be a 4312 or diamond 442 with really high wingbacks, 3 CM/DMs in Yarmo Sangare and Janelt. Schade and Thiago/Wilson up top, Carvalho or Damsgaard behind thrm, and KLP Henry or diouf holding width on the left and Kayode Hickey or maybe even Anthony (if we're chasing a game) on the right. We'd be vulnerable to balls in behind the fullbacks but having 3 DMs helps cover those pockets cos they can either drift wide or drop between the centre backs to make a situational back 3.

The benefit of this compared to our current system would be Schade can focus on runs in behind and finishing and we'd have more control in the midfield. The position we'd be dropping is RW, where Dango has been unconvincing and Anthony isn't a natural inverted Right winger

There's got to be room for flexibility to change about, even if it's for periods in-game. We have the squad depth (with everyone fit) and we've seen glimpses of it under Keith, plus I think Damien had more attacking ideas.

I think it's dependent on getting our two default CB's back and up to speed as they provides both a more solid base and also enables much quicker transitions that by-pass the slow build up through midfield...

What Fabio offers, that neither Damsgaard or Jensen can really match, is a serious and consistent goal threat from an advanced midfield position. My only worry is that his pressing might not be up to the level we require. But if we're chasing the game I think it's a great option from the bench
