Roffey v Kings Langley (FA Vase 1)

1-1 at full time, straight to penalties, 2-4 to Kings Langley

Attendance 150ish?

Friday night under the Horsham FC lights

This was a full blooded cup tie between two evenly matched teams who both created chances throughout. Crunching but not dirty tackles from both sides. Roffey took a first half lead with a passing movement that sliced through the KL defence and ended up in the corner of the net.
The second half played out the same way with the KL equaliser coming in the final fifteen minutes with the forward put through and lobbing the keeper.
Straight to penalties with Roffey hitting the post with their first and the keeper saving the fourth. KL scored all four that they took.

They lost 26-0 at home last month.
Hard to believe they were an ex football league side.
I got a free little book about their 5 years in the league

Gloucester game was postponed as Taunton couldn't get to the ground in time due to a big incident on the M5

FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round replay

Gloucester 0-2 Barrow
Att: 949 (seemed busier than that), bout 40 away which is a good effort for a Tuesday eve
£10 entry
Double rum and coke £7.25
Didn't eat
Chaps: Very few

Another game for me that changed due to a red card. First half was pretty even, and it didn't look like 60 places separated the two sides. Barrow looked stronger and bigger but didn't impose themselves like I thought they might.

Game changed when our captain Kieran Thomas went straight through their bloke in the corner (I was as far away from it as possible so didn't see it fully), was shown a red card and then Barrow started to impose themselves. They scored soon after and again in injury time as Gloucester pushed forward. Gloucester did alright and can hold their heads high, a decent cup run at this level with some extra money in the bank.

As I put in the FA Cup thread, no beers in the stands so I made sure I got as many in as possible in the 2+ hours I had after work. Think I got 5 down me (all over 5%, made the most of what I had)

FA Trophy next for Glos and a shorter trip to Redditch awaits

Anyone planning to attend Chelski v Spurts on Saturday .....
"I am writing to inform you that on Saturday 24 October 2026, Live Facial Recognition (LFR) will be deployed during the policing operation for the Chelsea FC v Tottenham Hotspur FC football fixture, which has been assessed as a high-risk match. The deployment follows the established stakeholder engagement approach previously used for football-related LFR deployments. The two deployment locations will be: Earl's Court West Brompton Two LFR vans will be deployed across these locations during the pre-match phase of the operation. Signage will be deployed outside the zone of recognition in line with MPS LFR policy. We can provide a debrief of the deployment within 72 hours should you require. The deployment will operate during the designated pre-match period. The watchlist will contain individuals subject to Football Banning Orders relating to either club, together with persons wanted or missing for serious offences and those sought on warrants issued by HMCTS. This reflects the watchlist criteria outlined in the previous stakeholder communication. The Premier League and relevant football stakeholders are aware of and supportive of the deployment."👀:judge:

Chertsey 2 Evesham last night
All the usuals …338 (4 aways 👀😳no chaps😬)
A win at last for the Cherts and it should have been a lot more …8-1 would have been a fair result 👍
We need to start a run of wins and get back in that play off picture 😉

When are they going to use this technology for good not this bullshit and focus on getting people to wash their hands at football

Wednesday 21st October 2026
Inter 1-0 Shaktar Donetsk. Champions League. San Siro
Attendance; 73,352
Programme; None
Admission; €95 for a seat close to the half way line and at a near perfect viewing level. Much cheaper tickets were available up in the Gods but Newcastle away once a season is quite enough of that for me.
Food and Drink; didn't buy any
Chaps; several thousand on the middle tier behind one goal
Away fans; a surprising number in the circumstances, probably more than 1,000. Enough to just about make themselves heard on several occasions.

I thought I'd do some advance scouting for our Champions League visit to the San Siro next season. You can certainly see why it's simultaneously both such an iconic stadium and yet also shortly to be demolished. The design is stunning but the interior really run down. Even my expensive seat would have shamed the main stand of any self respecting National League South side.

The match itself was lacking quality and scoring chances but became quite feisty in the second half. Having never looked remotely like scoring with 11 men Inter finally took the lead shortly after being reduced to 10 (and subbing off Djed Spence) and then proceeded to cling desperately on to it, backed by a wound up crowd roaring them over the line in full underdog mode. It was probably the best and noisiest atmosphere I've ever experienced other than for a couple of matches I was lucky enough to see in Argentina several years ago.

Anyway, the good news is that on this evidence we'll have nothing to worry about. We could certainly win here. Which is bonkers.

Harrogate Town v Sutton United 3-1
Attendance 2415 (including 131 Sutton United)
Admission £26 seated (in advance or £28 on the day)!
Programme & team sheet available
Chap count = 0
Ultra's = 6
Drums = 2 (1 home, 1 away)

Needed to do the ground, so tied in nicely before Hull tomorrow & Sunderland midweek. Game played in driving wind and rain. Sutton totally outplayed. Would've loved to have seen the first half match stats (75-25 at a guess). Harrogate 3-0 up with 3 goals in five first half minutes (30, 32 & 35. Sutton consolation in the second half (74).

Drummers (plural) should meet beforehand to agree a playlist, otherwise it can be a bit much in a smaller ground and crowd.
Brother gave it a miss today, in favour of slippers and tv…
Harrogate should never have got themselves relegated last season, and seem intent on marching straight back up again. Weaver full of himself in Radio York I/V.

Sheffield FC v Blackstones FC
United Counties Premier North
Saturday 24 October 2026

Had strongly considered Rochdale (which would have got me back up to 92). Given the score that was probably best avoided. Walked around Bramall Lane and was tempted by Sheffield Utd v Derby County. The plan was to see Hallam FC but then I found out about their issues which made me think the game would not have been much good. Could have done Rotherham
or Chesterfield but instead went for Sheffield FC.

Went down to Dronfield to see the game.
Entrance £10 (I think it was £8 online). £2 Programme.
Steak Pie and Gravy and Tea £7.50. Both really hit the spot.

Was cold and windy and raining like mad. I feared the game might be called off.
The away team took the lead with a very precise free kick. Sheffield equalised. 1-1 at Half Time.
Ref then came out early. Bouncing a ball and looking uncertain. I thought he was going to call it off. Seemed to take a while for others to see what he was up to.

Game restarted. Sheffield scored almost immediately then added another two…
But then the referee wanted a chat with his linesmen and then decided to call the game off.

He probably should have called it off at half time. But I suppose he did not want to waste everyone’s time.

So, I was both entertained and frustrated.

I think that is the first game I have ever seen that was abandoned for rain and in this country.

I then remembered I had seen a game called off in Malmo (Pontus was playing) for hooliganism. I was more frustrated then and went to Copenhagen in a mood.

So all pretty eventful. I was cold and soaked. Slunk back to my hotel room
and started to prepare for Hull.

24th October
Victoria Sulejówek 2-1 Broń Radom, Polish fifth tier

Attendance estimated at 450
Admission 15 zloty (about £3)
Beers cheap
Full BBQ on offer
No programme
Chaps about 300 home, 20 away +1 drum, all away refused to buy tickets and watched through the fence surrounded by riot cops

Football was appalling, but Sulejówek's first goal was good, then Radom got the softest headed equaliser I've ever seen against the home side's teenage defence. Dodgy pen to win it for Sulejówek in the second half.

Bizarre situation with ultras, apparently they've not turned up to a game all season, but came today, loads of noise, but regularly chanting names of various local teams in lower divisions then in the second half pulled out a banner totally obscuring their own view and went silent for 25 minutes till the pen. Then they were all noise the rest of the game with flares aplenty.

After the game every male attendee was searched by cops (women were allowed to file out past us), till they got to us "przepraszam, we're English, what's going on" prompting deep sighs and eye rolling then we were allowed to leave. Got chatting to some chaps on the way out, they were protesting mismanagement with the banner and turn up to any game between a local team and a "rival" which in this case Radom were, which explains why they'd not been yet that season, far more important games on. Tomorrow they're all off to Legia vs Poznan

My usual trip to The Bev, when Brentford aren't playing.
HRBFC 3-4 Truro City
Attendance 635 (20-30 Tinners.)
ST gets me in through the VIP gate.
Beavers led 3-1 with 24 minutes to go but then conceded 3 goals in 11 minutes, which coincided with the Interim Head Coach, Max Kretzschmar bringing himself on.

Partick Thistle 3 Stenhousemuir 0

I have never been so wet in my life as the wind howled in bringing with it the rain and hail - and the stand roof leaked too!

This was second against first and Partick pulverised a really poor away team and could and should have had six.

They played quick accurate football with overlapping full backs, a tricky winger and a deadly striker in hat trick hero Henderson.

The visitors offered nothing but an excellent keeper who kept the score down.

A biblical hail storm rendered the last quarter farcical but the excellent ref kept them out there despite the visitors’ vain efforts to get the game abandoned.

Great fun if soaked.

24 Oct 26
FA Trophy 1st Round
Leatherhead 2 Eastbourne Borough 2
(Eastbourne win on Penalties 2-1)
Attendance 442 (40 - 50 Eastbourne)
Chaps - a few
Eastbourne had a drum!
Entrance £14 Programme £3
Didn't do beer

Despite the awful conditions, this was an entertaining and pretty tight game between two decent sides. If Leatherhead had taken the chances they created, they'd have gone through. Eastbourne goalie did well, both in the game itself and particularly in the penalty shoot out (No extra time or replays in the Trophy).

Eastbourne scored two well taken goals, one in the first half, the other early in the second before the Tanners came back with a first and then an equaliser. Both sides had chances to win it in the final minutes.

The penalty shoot out was pretty disastrous from a Tanners point of view - only one scored. I didn’t see the first Tanners' missed penalty, but the other three were well saved by the goalie. Eastbourne scored two of theirs - the Tanners goalie saved the other two - and that was that.

There had been a pitch inspection at 10 AM and the game had been given the go ahead but with heavy rain before and particularly during the game, there was a big puddle just outside the penalty area at one end in the first half and by midway in the second, the ball was splashing through water in several other areas too. We were lucky the game was completed (and I say that even though the Tanners lost.)
