I Thought he looked extraoridinarily Stocky today...

I've always thought he looks a bit on the tubby side but have reassured myself that it is all muscle but now i'm not too sure.

Rankin looked fat and unfit today, he also didn't look too bothered today, we should have played Peters from the start today, he looks fast and fit, cant wait to see Him, DJ and Rhodes in the first team, with thier pace they'd terrify anybody.

He is prone to putting on weight and looked it today, always a bit tell tale when players wear their shirts outside their shorts!!

Noticed also how our new passing game seem to break down when he got the ball, he just doesn't have the ball control..

Play Ryan Peters!

Rankin looked FAT yesterday simple as that our front is a joke great header by Lloyd, looked easier to score but he cleared it for them

we cant drop DJ

no but Martin Allen can....DJ's running, control and general enthusiam are making Owusu look like Scott Fitzgerald on valium. DROP HIM NOW....think what he is doing to Lloydie's confidence.

I'm sure I'm running against the grain here but I (master tactician and manager extrordinaire) would have started with DJ on the bench for Chesterfield.

When you have a "Blatherwick style" defence, I would start with Isaiah, who would be my battering ram, and tell him to get stuck in and run himself into the ground, getting kicked all over in the process... THEN I'd unleash DJ!

On Saturday, DJ was almost nullified after the opening 30 minutes, just skipping away a few times after. I think he (with Ryan) would have done terminal damage against a tired and bruised back line.

This is exactly what MA does with Rhodes (when fit) leave him on the bench, and give him the last 10-15 to have a run at a tiring opposition. However, with that type of player I always doubt whether they are really that good, as their defining attribute is their pace, and little else.

Thought Ryan was underused when he came on spent most of the time on wing getting cold with no one passing to him

DJ was our most dangerous player, he makes defenders commit themselves and constantly win free kicks, problem is we don't have anyone who can take them. DJ would be my first player on the team sheet.........Owusu and Rankin....get rid Martin. Don't make another ballsup like when you let Matt Harrold go and payed good money for Fitzgerald, he can't even get into the Oxford starting eleven.

Tactically i don't know that much about the game (so don't be too harsh) but it seems to me that we have problems when our strikers have their backs to the opposition (which they do most of the time). When DJ and Owusu run on to the ball they look very dangerous, the problem with this is when they do it they always seem to run straight into the opposition or have one touch too many. I'd like to see us string some passes together and move together as a unit rather than pass it about a bit, get nowhere and then smack it up the pitch which i think we did a few times too often yesterday.

Just thought i'd add that.

I'm afraid I think Peters was a little out of the game last night when he came on.. He was getting knocked off the ball too easily and Oldham were getting a lot of joy down that wing so MA brought Rankin on and moved Peters up front.. He's def worth playing against teams that aren't cloggers but against the likes of Oldham/Chesterfield I feel he's just not strong enough at the moment..

agree - thought it looked like men against boys whenever he got the ball...

Agree,
Still a bit lightweight and for my me a good option on the bench, pace in bundle but ball control doesn't seem to be much better than Isaiahs'

While not a great fan of Rankin (although to be fair he's looked sharper than last season before his recent lay off) would prefer him to Peters at kick off against big strong teams like Tranmere and Swansea. Would prefer a fit Rhodes to both and think it will be interesting when everybody including Oli back, hopefully back end of Feb for final promotion push.

Whats happened to Peters? Is he on loan or something? Do you get the feeling he's going to be released at the end of the season, could be a similar scenario to Rhodes 2 years ago, you would have thought he would at leat be on the subs bench considering his pace?

Not looked the business to me so far. He is typical of a young player that needs a year or so the reserves getting used to adult football and completing his physical growing up, sadly we just can't afford one so my guess is he will be moved on.

Charle Ide will take his place as the wannabe forward next season.

Has Fitz senior pulled rank on MA and nabbed him for the last two games for the youth team ? OS doesn't give any details though on youth matches.

spoke to him yesterday outside gp. he said "i'm having some treatment then going home"

When I think Peters I just think Colchester - that's why he's not regularly starting or even coming on; though in fairness to him did make a difference at Bristol

Yes Ryan Peters is out injured but we do have the option of playing Scott Fitzgerald. Good news or what!!!:sorted:

No dont think so - but he is many a weak in the upper part of his body and would struggle as he did before and before and before.....
