Champagne Moment of the World Cup

Spence provided several (I can’t believe I’m writing this) in a Kayode-style charge up either wing and ‘how did he do that? what’s he doing next?’ moments.

Several of France’s goals were absolute gems of passing, movement and precision. One of their goals (or Spain’s?!!) involved all eleven players before being scored without any opposition touches.

Fernandez’s suicidal 2nd yellow/red card yesterday, pretty much sealed Argentina’s fate in the Final.

Seen the GPG come through a tournament with lowest number of people banned

Did you not think it was a foul?
Oh, it was absolutely a foul. And a yellow.

But a player who's been yellowed for dissent (conceding an IDFK in the process) sends someone four feet in the air almost the same way Alan McCormack did having only forty seconds earlier come on after a lengthy injury and getting a second yellow for it [Only Macca didn't even concede a foul]?

Delicious.

Champagne Moment of the World Cup

The 6 goals for England and the 4 for France. The highest goal scoring game, ever, in the World Cup. Well done England and well done France for won of the few really entertaining games in this World Cup.

There were loads of really good games

Champagne Moment of the World Cup

On the pitch, Harry Kane‘s second goal against DR Congo.

Off the pitch, being at the infamous night at the Londoner pub in down town Dallas and chatting with Olivia Buzaglo!

Champagne Moment of the World Cup

The final whistle blown by the referee in the final to bring this mediocre tournament to an end.

The whole Mexico/England game was an unforgettable event. The 2am start was a struggle but made it that bit more special. And then there's was the Azateca.

It was a brilliant performance by England, especially after the sending off; full of grit, character and no little skill. It will live long in the memory. :)

First few games I enjoyed were refreshing with the refs taking a hardline on play acting, time wasting, throws ins being taken quickly and letting play continue rather than falling for the diving and throwing one’s self to ground nonsense, also like the rule about getting of the pitch if your injured. I thought those games were decent to watch as a result. Unfortunately as the tournament progressed it seemed they had forgotten about the new enhancements and it all got a bit sh*t and slow.

Mexico match. Watching in the pub in the early hours and staggering home in daylight.

Champagne:
Djed Spence refusing to shake Partey's hand.

Flat beer:
Declan Rice love in with Partey after that game - he's a f***ing rapist you tw*t!

All 5 of the victories, they all had moments of celebration you only get when you win a WC game. I don’t care how we play if we win. The relief of the Kane goals versus Congo.

A special highlight was the hand of god, from Jude to the little Argentinian pricks head.

Hungary 10-1 El Salvador 1982 - Hungary 8-3 West Germany 1954 - Brazil 6-5 Poland 1934 are all 11 - but the most was Austria 7-5 Switzerland in 1954

I was thinking there’d been some really big scores in dim and distant games. The stat quoted might be ‘highest aggregate score in a 3rd place game’. The most I can see previously was 9 - France 6-3 West Germany, in 1958.

Champagne Moment of the World Cup

Scotland beating Haiti 1-0 and acting like they were going through, USA beating Paraguay and thinking they were going to win the whole tournament, Scotland trying to play it out from the back against Brazil, Scotland calculating all the permutations on them going through to which none happened. Wissa missing a sitter against England, Argentina losing the final.

Champagne Moment of the World Cup

Argentina rattled beyond belief after the final and their salty salty tears
