Igor Thiago

Igor Thiago

Thought he looked absolute class when he came on tonight!!
Hold up play.
Link up play.
Breaking.
Dummy for Damsgaard goal.
Goal himself.

Yep, that’s what these social media idiots don’t see, Igor and his all round game. Simply a brilliant striker

Igor Thiago

Another really strong performance from him today , he’s like a different player to 12 months ago when the ball just seemed to bounce off him all the time , now his control is on a different level , he drops deep , runs with the ball and links play so well .
The goals will come but I’d take 15 goals this season in the league as he’s creating a lot of space and opportunities for others and the goals will be spread a bit wider .

Igor Thiago

Sometimes it feels like he gets the ball and then just stops or starts to run with it and then sort of fizzles out, whereas last season he'd dribble the length of the pitch.

Still, his work rate, hold up play and passion are outstanding.

Igor Thiago

As others said, whilst Jaidon may not do the spectacular like Kev or Dan, he does put in a good ball, as does KLP

It’s that kind of service Igor needs right now. Yes his hold up play is good, but on the ball he seems a bit uncertain.

Whereas Ivan and Bryan and by the end Wissa could create something out of nothing, Igor will need better service if he’s to get that momentum going again

Igor Thiago

He looked heavy-legged against Leeds, and similarly tired in the second half against the mackems. The service to him perhaps need some improvement, but I think a long season, off of the back of a big injury and a World Cup has caught up with him.

I guess Keith is trying to get him a goal for his confidence’s sake, but both last week and this he should have been hooked much earlier.

I mentioned this before: Sunderland exposed everything in 1st half- our defence, midfield and attack;

Second half he clicked with Kevin and Jaidon and worked his socks off to win the balls but again he’s not a creator of chances he finishes chances created by surrounding players;

My bug bear would be with Wilson who had a great chance and plenty of time and space to pass to an open player but decided to try to do everything by himself to score individually; Maybe due to his Newcastle past;

Igor Thiago

He needs to start hitting the turf like they were
Seems to make no difference if he does, or not.
Refs give him f**k all.
Seems to be a case of "He's a big lad, should be able to look after himself".

Igor Thiago

All of front 3 in the first half especially struggled with their first touch and controlling the ball. Thats why all 3 were pretty ineffective.

Thiago is what he is, big lump, fast and pressing machine.
Yeah.
I think most of the Thiago problem isn’t a Thiago problem. It’s a Schade/Outarra/Anthony problem.
The output from our wingers was, in a word, sh*t.
He can’t get on the end of things that don’t exist.
KLP provided the most danger but even his crosses were mostly all wayward or into the keepers hands.

Agreed, ref's gave him absolutely nothing last season and it looks like they've decided to do the same again this season. sh*t for him and us.

Have you seen the size of Mukiele? He was rolling non-stop in the ground like he lost his limbs and got most of the free kicks yesterday

Igor Thiago

He was effective in pre season and against Spurs, against centre backs who didn’t fancy it.

Less effective against Leeds and Sunderland with centre backs who did fancy a physical battle.

He needs to be a little more clever against the latter type of teams and needs to play to the type of ref too. Everything was a foul yesterday yet he didn’t go down once, when he could’ve and helped ease the pressure.

Don’t think him and Wilson on the pitch at the same time worked or necessarily will work.

He definitely went down in the 2nd half on the right wing when being grappled to the ground...... and got nothing.
I distinctly remember it as about 10 seconds later Sunderland were given a free kick on their right, near our penalty area for far less of an "offence"...

I thought he did well yesterday and at Leeds too. (Leeds fans very complimentary about him). Obviously we want him to be teed up in front of goal but that is down to our supply lines which have not created many clear cut chances for him yet. His work rate, battling for the team and hold up play have been good in my opinion. His improvement in these areas from this time last year has been outstanding.

Igor Thiago

Disagree with the above, I think he's playing really well. It'll click again once he gets a goal but he's working really hard, defending well too.

Keith wont be worried and neither am I.

Exactly this. Hard to score when your wide men are providing the square root of f*** all

I thought he put in an excellent shift, it wasn't just our 'wide men', it was the midfield not finding him directly as well.

Igor Thiago

Watching Igor yesterday he hardly ever gained actual control of the ball - maybe a couple of paces and he lost it. He was closely marked, which is hardly surprising and this season he needs to get used to that, but he didn't manage to outsprint or outmuscle the defence, which is unusual. If he's waiting for tap-ins, apart from a free header which he should've scored, he needs to put himself about in the box a lot more.

There's a lot more to come from him, but we've got to be patient and wait for it to develop

Igor Thiago

Thought his hold up play was poor the ball just kept coming back putting our defence under constant pressure..

I do not disagree, however, as in the case of Michael Kayode, tacticians will have worked out how their defenders can neutralise him, IT will have to learn to deal with it. I noticed that on many occasions he was double marked if this is to continue then KA should take advantage of the thinner cover elsewhere.

Referees gave Ivan Toney even less than nothing but he managed to keep scoring Ivan mark two must work out how he is to deal with it.

And KLP a penalty for less.

We need a dominant midfield with someone in charge, physically and vocally, otherwise the efforts of Thiago et al up front will come to nothing.

Igor Thiago

Vitaly is like brick in the wall. Without him it all comes crashing down, but we need 2 Janelts with the same drive and determination and a solid man mountain in the middle orchestrating their moves and working their socks off.

We already have that surely? If we have been lacking it is in creativity imo, especially from the wings. But I think Igor is doing fine and will get his 15+ goals this year.

We have decent midfielders but too often they go missing.
