Evo's goal against PNE was 21 years ago today! ?

According to their Twitter Feed - 'The Dragons Voice' Podcast (a Welsh football Pod) are releasing a new episode some time today (number 22) on their Youtube channel which can be found here. In this episode Evo talks through his career etc apparently. (I must emphasize I haven't previously listened/watched the pod so I am unsure the format/quality etc).

I was on the Ealing Road terrace with three others against Preston, including a first ever match for a friend, and we all watched in awe as Evans shot sailed over the head of the keeper and straight into the net. I read that Evans noticed that their keeper was frequently way off his line but to actually catch him out with that level of accuracy was amazing. I wasnt at Burnley, but Keith Cassells scored a very similar goal at Preston of all places in September 83. He chipped their keeper from miles out, it was right in front of a decent away following, putting us three one up. Unfortunately we conceded a last minute pen and drew. I was at a reserve game at GP soon after and KC was sat in the stand. I told him I’d been behind the goal and it was a beautiful sight watching the ball sail in. Always rated Cassells. Lovely guy.

I can remember this goal well from Evo, just a week after his effort from the half way line against Preston.

I was at that game, recall there was some grumbling afterwards from local media that the ball hit the ref a few seconds before Evo hit the shot...or was that a different goal in the same game. Anyway would have been a travesty to see such a great goal disallowed for that (and there was no provision for a drop ball in the laws at the time that is a much more recent thing...).

We thought we'd never lose again I think that was our 26th game unbeaten either side of promotion...sadly also the last.
Just checked - it was the 25th, the run ended two games later

Would always have Paul Evans in my all-time Bees XI

After the unbeaten run came to an end, we were away at Preston a few days later. IIRC after Preston went 2-1 up, Evo tried another lob from the half way line which landed only a yard or so wide.

I think I remember that too. Scott Marshall's debut and ended up scoring an OG.
An odd quirk of the fixture list that we played Preston both home and away before the end of September. Both memorable games too.

We'd drawn most / all away games 2-2 I think, and were singing "it's gonna be 2-2" long before we equalised....we were flying at that time.

Edit: just used your link to check, and we'd finished Desmond in 3 of the previous 6, hence the chant.

Unfortunately Scott Marshall also gave away the penalty.I remember some dubious reffing that day.

I know this is a thread about Paul Evans, but if anyone thinks Flekken is a downgrade on Raya, then Scott Marshall as Herman’s replacement was a sight for sore eyes

He still loves it by the way

I was also delighted to see how pleased he was to be included in the pre kick-off montage we showed on the screen at GCS either last season or the season before (with the sound of a heartbeat. There were pics of Martin Allen and others and one was of PE I think holding the Division three trophy).
EDIT: here we are

Gareth Graham - that name takes me back, was a part of that squad but never made an impact in real life (injuries?) but was absolutely brilliant on that season's Championship Manager game for us as a defensive midfielder.

I see that in his thread he says "I could listen to Thomas Frank all day... seems like a top guy". Get him along to BCS and give him the chance to meet him for real.

Possibly
Possibly taken 'half way' .
Camera propped up and timer used or waitress/waiter asked to take the photograph. Nothing wrong with celebrating alone and he seems to be enjoying himself…

One of my favourite players. Excellent free kicks, the goals from half way line, good captain and the Gary Owers incident. Not a legend but definitely a favourite player of mine

I’ve got a terrible memory but Evans and Folan are two people whose goals I’ll never forget.

Absolutely. Loved the Preston one but Burnley was even better, simply as we'd been singing for half an hour that it was gonna be 2-2. Think we were 26 games unbeaten at that point?

I loved Evans' goal at Chester as well, was an absolute beauty...and his one at home to Swansea!

In the plot twist nobody expected, it was Paul’s first day as a HGV driver! Good luck, Evo.

I sort of disagree, he was a legend. Another player i liked after Mahon. Rowlands around the same time, was def not a legend!. But a good player.
