Igor Thiago

Igor Thiago

I think criticism that he’s getting for not scoring is silly. He’s not gotten off to the hottest start but also been instrumental to our overall play and we are scoring loads of goals due in no small part to his contributions all over the pitch.

Additionally, he could have a bagful of them already. He hit the post thrice against spurs, including the miss, did he not? He’s had a handful of chances, they just haven’t gone. He’s going to keep getting chances, it’s only a matter of time before a few of those go post and in instead of post and out

I wouldn't dwell on the musings of his detractors. He was getting lots of criticism on this thread this time last year (page 93 in particular if you fancy a laugh at some of the takes)... then look at the season he had.

Lots of those detractors think if a striker doesn't score a goal and/or miss a big chance, they've had a poor game. I maintain his best performance last season was a game he didn't even score in (Bournemouth at home... immense, he basically ended the career of one of their CBs in that game)... he was better than Everton away, United at home and other games he scored multiple goals in. I've said the same kind of thing in defence of Schade, sometimes what they offer in a game without getting a goal and/or assist directly benefits a teammate that does.

It's still early days but expecting him to replicate last season's tally is going to be a big ask now that he (and to a larger extent KA and the rest of our front line) are less of an unknown to other PL coaches and players but as KA said, the goals will come.

If he ends the season with low double figures but we can see an improvement on that front from our wingers and midfielders, it's not a problem as far as I'm concerned as long as he's still putting in a shift.

We build them up and then take delight in knocking them down.

Instead of being facile why not look beyond the obvious for the reasons he hasn’t scored an EPL goal so far?

He thrives on through balls and crosses. I can’t remember him being put through on goal and he’s barely had a cross worthy of the name. One at Leeds, one v Sunderland and both times he forced decent saves.

If we feed him he will score.

Igor Thiago

We wanted more players to chip in with goals and not be too reliant on one player and that's what we're getting.Igor will get going soon, his overall game is contributing greatly in the meantime.

I don’t know how we’d do it, or if there’s any basis to think it would work, but in the same way Wissa and Bryan became a front two. Could we try and use Kev and Igor the same way, if only sparingly?

An attacking three of Schade, Thiago and Anthony, with Diouf at left back, would give a narrow front two and quick crosses in from out wide.

Igor Thiago

Still working hard but his positional sense seems to be off. He misjudged a header early in the game and just before the final whistle a chance came over where he appeared to misread the ball and move away from where it would land for a header on goal.

Has he scored yet or is he still out there 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣 @Chomp 🎣🎣🎣🎣

Igor Thiago

Igor is struggling big time with his attacking play and hasn't looked a threat so far this season. As others have said, his overall game has improved significantly.

Plenty of time and I've got a good felling about Chelsea.

Keith spoke a lot about building relationships this time last year. 12mths on and the front 3 are playing like strangers.

No link up play or understanding. We’re creating very little and that needs to improve.

Igor Thiago

Anyone else remember how he went through a dry spell at brugge right after we'd signed him, and then in his first proper season he scored 22 goals?

Anyone else remember how he spent most of 24/25 injured and then played basically every minute of 25/26 pressing and tracking back and giving everything he had and then he looked knackered at the world cup and had a really difficult tournament where he was dropped after one poor game and didn't get a second chance?

Igor Thiago

I don’t know what some of you lot are watching. He’s playing well.
You realise after a while that although so many people watch Football, it's sometimes stunning to see how few actually understand it.

Thiago is doing everything right, he needs a bit of help from our more creative players.

As has been mentioned elsewhere, football is a game of fine margins and chance. Acknowledged too by our owner.
Pretty much everything went in for IT last season. The deflection off his chest from Collins' header in FA Cup at West Ham, the one off his knee from Kayode's shot (v ??), scored his first penalty at Forest etc. etc.....
Not been getting those 'breaks' so far this season, and of course the missed pen v Spurs hasn't helped. But still think his general level of play/hold up ability as gone up a level from a year ago. And, of course the big measure (again as per our owner) is how many we score, and how we do when he plays. Both of which have been pretty decent so far.

So big Igor hasn't scored this season in the PL let's all get in a sweat about it, is he a one season wonder they say.
Anyone who remotely thinks that way knows precious little about football in general, every striker needs that little bit of luck and it seems to have deserted big Igor right now but his overall contribution to the team is better than last season, once that touch of luck.comes back then the goals will start to flow once more

At times like this I revert to MB's maxim about the number of goals scored while a player is on the pitch rather than the number of goals scored by an individual. Igor's time on the scoresheet will come.

Igor Thiago

He’s getting no service at all.

But are we surprised with a middle 3 of VJ YY and MS

KS is doing well but the right hand side is non existent.

I’m not worried about him, I’m worried about how our silky play has dropped off since half time at Leeds.

Igor Thiago

Been a while since he scored in prem in open play for us.
Maybe Everton last season,no wonder not picked for Brazil.
Pedro in better form.
Let’s hope he can play himself into form.but do wish he could improve his hold up play.

Igor Thiago

He is living off scraps at the moment, the last two games have had an xg of 0.5 and 0.84. Hardly any support coming from the right hand side and maybe need to see if Fabio can stand in for Matti or Dams, as Yarmo does not offer enough creativity in the middle (aside from the assist yesterday).

Hold up play is his main strength imo, would like to see him net more but that will come

Would have loved to have seen him tuck away that chance at 2-1 right in front of us.......
Did well to control the through ball, and shrug off the defender, and was a decent save from the keeper, but a goal for the big man would've been handy.
(Also had a half decent chance from a cross from our right, and was definitely onside when ref blew up for FT as he broke away at the end.........)

As an aside, a bit odd to see those 2 kids run on the pitch at FT, take a selfie with him, and then get his shirt!!! 🤷‍♂️
