This is just so, so Brentford.

We sign an incredibly highly regarded but still relatively unknown young player with massive development potential without any word getting out before the deal is done and dusted

We bring in the replacement before we sell the player currently in situ so that we cannot be held to ransom.

This is a quite brilliant coup and should give the answer to anyone who suggests that we have lost our touch in terms of our recruitment.

Anyone know how we've been allowed to sign him after the window has closed?

I know he's not coming here till July, but what's to stop a team doing that with any player? (e.g. Arsenal announce next week that Toney's going there for £98.2m on June 15th...).

Or did we have it wrapped up 2 weeks ago? (but I can't believe nothing leaked out during that time).

You can sign players any time. The transfer window is actually a registration window.

We can sign players whenever we want. We can only register them in nominated windows however

Nothing. But in your example Brentford and Ivan would both have to agree to that and sign the papers etc

Woah, completely unexpected! Didn’t think we’d hear anything for a while. Interesting the announcement has been made this early.

Wonder as well what it means for any possibility of Neal staying longer?

Here’s my ridiculous conspiracy theory:

We were going to sign Nusa, everything was in order. Ivan’s agent then called to confirm he’s definitely decided to go. We then thought s**t and changed our minds but needed a valid reason : failed medical.
We sent Nusa back and said “sorry but could we see what else you have in stock”. They said “fine, but no more discounts” ?

37 million euros - for this guy seems like a lot to me, from what I've seen on his very limited highlights reel - seems more like 20-25.
Perhaps he will prove me wrong (I really hope)
Just not too sure about him at the moment
Nusa seemed like a far more exciting prospect than this guy (although we do need a Toney replacement for the summer)

Exactly! If we waited and he banged in another 10+ goals it would have opened the door for an auction. Wise to steal a March now with clubs up against P&L issues .

I think I trust the recruitment team to get the big decisions right.

You’ve wiped £10m off of his value based on what you’ve seen on YouTube. Maybe sit this one out.

We can’t buy ready made strikers cos they cost a shed load of cash. This is how we operate and we will turn this guy into a superstar.
